Why are you guys trying to act like not associating evilness with race is the same as trying to remove anything evil from the game?
this was already the case from the beginning of the game and codifying it is either lip service or the alternative
drizzt was a good drow, players have been playing good orcs and ogres, DMs have been inserting good mind flayers for decades
the common way it's been defined is that good individuals can exist, but they're the exception, not the rule, most of the drow/orcs are pretty evil
now: is that statement being changed, or is it just the cause of the evil being changed?
option A: "most of the orcs are evil" is not true anymoreok, so in this case some amount of evil has been removed from the game, it applies to drow, mind flayers, whatever, every race is a rich tapestry of alignments so there is fundamentally less evil in D&D world
option B: most of the orcs are still evil, they're just not born that way, they're only socialized that waydo you really think this satisfies the kind of people who would complain about it? now you're saying people aren't inherently bad, you're just saying asian culture is bad, or black culture is bad
and as stated earlier,
this was already the case dating back to the very start of the game, where drow
society has very clearly defined rules and deities and culture, and it's no wonder most of them don't manage to escape and end up like drizzt, so making the "change" would be lip service
