However, I'm a bit perplexed at Ryan McCaffrey's name being on this considering only a few minutes before this statement was released, he finished recording a podcast with far right/racist commentator Colin Moriarty -- a person who just yesterday was criticising IGN employees for posting this article.

It's a minor thing, but I am very surprised to see Ryan McCaffrey's name on that list at the bottom. He's been silent on twitter about any of it as far as I can tell, and is buddy-buddy with Colin Moriarty as recently as this week, a guy who criticized IGN (and others) for putting up the post in the first place.

The universe is estimated to be 13.8 billion years old right?

If human civilization has only been around for about 6000 years, then we are a microscopic blip on the cosmic timeline.

If intelligent life developed on another planet, it would also be a microscopic blip on the timeline.

Imagine how small the probability is of those two blips on the timeline happening at exactly the same time? It's highly unlikely to the point of impossibility.

If we ever get off this planet and find other life, we are much more likely to find remnants of an extinct civilisation or simply primitive life forms than we are any sort of intelligent civilisation. The reverse would probably be true for any extra terrestrial visitors to Earth.
