Serious stonks strategy talk
« on: March 03, 2020, 04:32:30 PM »
I've been reading wallstreetbets all this past week and people are turning this volatility into giant sums of cash left and right.

Im tired of being left out. I want to retire and move to costa rica. Predictit was fun, and I made like $45 dollars voting no on Yang, but it's time for the real money.

But I dont really understand it all. Look at this comment someone made today:

Quote
SPCE 4/17 5p are basically free money

Ok, so they're saying that Virgin Galactic Holdings is over-priced at 24.71 and this person is betting that by 4/17/2020 the stock will be closer to $5. Right?

That's a bit too far out to me, but what if I buy puts for 4/17 for, say, $12? Half the current price? Is that also free money?

For reference I bought my first puts this morning.

 $70.46  (25.21%)
and
 $0.92  (2.35%)

I mean, this is a good start right? Had my nuts been a little more developed, I could have easily been up $200 today but I got scared.

Esch liked and then unliked my Vanguard post, and that felt worse than my portfolio taking a dip  :'(

It's good advice though.

I thought about it, and then i realized forums poster james is smart enough to take on a little more risks in the market. Index funds are safe and boring. A guy like james can handle something a little more profitable.

This is wrong.

I want safe money. I want "basically free money".

I want to be like the guy who made $6million on Tesla stonks in 5 days.

Now is the perfect time to buy. We have this thing very much contained. You see the markets are doing great. The fundamentals of this market are strong. I believe there is no reason to panic. Now is a great time to buy.

Just watch the Wolf of Wall Street, james. Do Penny-stocks like he did, and then develop a drug habit. Maybe find an underage Margot Robbie alike for your... how do we say... pizza-tendencies and then lose it all.

if you're determined to go high risk  probably no reward i suggest to look at weedstocks (the murican mso's)

if Sanders wins, he'll legalize federally day 1 and everything will moon because executive order bitches
Biden hates weed though, so even if federal legalization is possible in his presidency... he aint gonna push for it himself.

of course there's no downside! everyone on wall street loves to throw free money at newbs who don't know what they are doing! it's that sort of spontaneous generosity that has made wall street so famous after all!

You fucking imbecile explain this

I was told to post this. I think i beat the game. I bought every reasonable call selling for .01 and bought them. Over 1000 contracts. The slightest upward movement makes me money, and they cant go lower than i already bought them for. It either goes up, or expires worthless.YOLO

For this strategy, time decay is your friend. You want the price of the option you sold to approach zero. That means if you choose to close your position prior to expiration, it will be less expensive to buy it back.

You're selling an underlying you don't own, so you have to buy it back to complete the trade.  The ideal scenario is you selling a contract that has value, you get the credit on the sale immediately, then it ends up becoming worthless due to theta decay for when you buy it back.   Options decay over time, so if you're selling an option, you actually earn money over time (if you're buying, you're losing).  You can create spreads of buy/sell combinations to earn money at a specific strike point over time.

Get an Ameritrade account so you can sign up for ThinkorSwim to understand how to construct trades.

Get this book : https://www.amazon.com/Option-Traders-Hedge-Fund-Framework-ebook/dp/B00844NXC6  It's heavy reading, but worth it.
