Obama, Truman and JFK fired Generals. JFK fired the chairman of the Joint Chiefs and gave him a NATO posting instead. It won't make him popular though and it's probably too late now.

I'm wondering if Biden will curb presidential powers. Obama and especially Bush / Cheney greatly expanded it and there was a failed effort to limit presidential powers before Trump took office. The things Obama did to circumvent Congress and Bush to fight the war on terror allowed Trump to ignore his critics and do the things that he wanted. He also discovered the Acting secretary loophole
