Starting with fucking Smash DLC made it feel like some shitty shadow drop direct, not an E3 direct.

The only time I got really excited was Super Monkey Ball, but I guess the rest was ok too.

Just watched the 20 minute Metroid demo... It looks great I guess, ...but it just made me want a Strider (2014) sequel really bad.  Poor Double Helix... Just seems slow in comparison.. oh well.  Will still play it.

First good Nintendo conference in like 6 or 7 years  Would be better with more new games, but eh. If the people in charge can't get things right anyway, remakes for Monkey Ball and Mario Party or Advance Wars will do. SMTV looks great, but still cautious about too much bad animue after SMT4A. Metroid Dread looks good, but cautious that Mercury Steam can improve their level design. Wario looks very good.

Beware of Fatal Frame 5, it's very boring.

My take on the Direct
- It really was a throw shit at the wall and see what sticks direct, bunch of games that could easily be completed in 12 months or less (Advance Wars Remaster / Wario Ware) or dragged out of development hell (Metroid Dread)

My take on Switch Pro
- Nintendo messed around with Realtek SOC's and tried to find a part with AMD but settled for Nvidia in the end.
It is more likely that Switch Pro is a 'next gen' upgrade, doesn't make much sense to release a slightly souped up Switch this late in the game.


I don't understand why people are so bullish on this Direct.
Nintendo scraped by with the bare minimum. I guess expectations were so low that Wario Ware, Advance Wars and 2.5D Metroid are enough.
Essentially all 'budget' titles. Remember we are at the same point in the cycle when the Switch replaced the Wii U. Microsoft did better.

I love Metroid games and I will get Dread day 1 and likely also Advance Wars so I'll probably buy both at $60 anyway.
But even I have to admit. It's not a big production like Zelda BOTW2.

Budget = smaller scale production, Nintendo prices everything at $60 and I'm in the camp that has no trouble with $60 / 4 hour games.
It's just that, I don't understand why people are so bullish on this Direct it was light on content at the end of the day and a whole bunch of projects and studios didn't show up.

Compare this line-up to what they dropped in 2017 (same point in the cycle).
It's another weak year overall.

I like Tekken a little, and I think putting him in and more fighting game characters in Smash is fine. But he's an unexciting character that you reveal early on. These last few slots should've been reserved for big deal shit like when they got Sephiroth.

There's SMT, the larger brand which also encompasses Persona and other spin offs, and then there's SMT, the main series. For a main series game, it doesn't inspire images of SMT's brand. And I have let it go. I haven't paid attention to E3 at all. I'm just observing and posting my thoughts. I'll be skipping it to save myself the heartache.

metroid dread looks maybe ok? im not convinced. didn't communicate any of the classic metroid atmosphere that oozes out of every area in super metroid. maybe that's because of the voiceover idk. not a fan of the art direction or the blue wall hang sections littered all over the place, but samus's movement and animations look damn nice

I've been reading CHAOS impressions and apparently people like the demo?

Sounds like it's a reskinned Nioh 2 early alpha, but because of that it actually plays fairly well and is fun outside the PS3 gfx and cringe story stuff. Could end up sorta ok. Also Garland is the demo boss so people think they're holding back a whole of and everything in the trailer was like the first hour vertical slice.

I guess I should try downloading it and giving CHAOS a shot.

But I also don't know why an abstract desert wasteland is unSMT.

3 also took you through strange environments and I wouldn't say it really leaned all into Cyberpunk. It  leaned way more into hindu and east Asian atmosphere. This looks to be continuing that, but without the cold 90s art of Kaneko.


I don't know, looks fine to me. Taking ques from Tokyo Mirage's battle system is also good.
