There's so much organizational work, coordination and grit that goes into pulling votes like this. Especially when we're talking about the first Black woman confirmed to the Supreme Court (as I'm under ZERO delusion that there wasn't likely D opposition behind the scenes). Like, I'm no fan of Schumer, I think he's so far been pretty lackluster in his role. But it is what it is.

But when you turn this into a backhanded compliment of Manchin, you're kind of wasting breath. Because Manchin doesn't give a single, solitary, miniscule of a fuck about your insults. He doesn't have to.

But this is kind of a slap-in-the-face to everyday Democrats -- both in office and working to put folks on the left in office, Democrat or otherwise. Like, it's not giving what you think it's giving. It's very much giving "Fuck Progress."

Sorry, I'm emotional. I've been an Democratic activist and organizer my whole adult life. I want to be happy about this. I'm about to watch the first Black woman confirmed to the Supreme Court. When wading through the YouTube space in search of quality content, by FAR one of my favorite video essayists I've recently discovered is F.D. Signifier. His mix of Progressive ideals and compassion from a Black male perspective is, quite simply, refreshing for the platform.

Today he released a video on the The Slap, that I think is worth watching. He doesn't completely absolve Will Smith for his actions, and actually he mostly disagrees with the take that Will did what he did purely to protect his wife Jada. But he launches into a pretty compelling thesis on trauma and Black boyhood that I think is worth thinking about...especially if you're someone who doesn't understand why a lot of people are wanting to give Will grace and treat this incident with some nuance.

That reminds me of the day when Reddit first banned a subreddit. They banned I believe 5 of them. It was such a big deal it made the 6 o'clock national news. For whatever reason, one of those subreddits on the entire website they decided to ban was the neogaf one.
