I started off enjoying Persona 5, but when I got to the part where they went on holiday the endless dialogue had me hitting the skip button almost constantly through the rest of the game.

Yup. I liked the actual gameplay but those cutscenes really started to fuck me off. I remember there was one that went on for so long I’d completely zoned out, then I looked at my watch and realised it had been going on for 20 minutes. Pretty sure that was when I just started skipping the rest.

As someone born, raised and is in Asia, I question American folks, especially White people that label x asian cultural thing or x asian media trope as being "Anime".
What's next, you're gonna tell me the V-sign hand pose is anime? That sailor fuku and school uniforms are anime? that finger heart is anime? that oppa is anime? that ramen is anime? that BTS and got7 and exo and blackpink are anime? that C-dramas and K-dramas are anime?

You don't see me labelling stuff like wearing shoe inside the house, school lockers, 4th of July, thanksgiving and the meangirl cheerleader trope as being "American cartoon" things based on all the American Cartoons broadcasted in my country.

Maybe it's because of America's weird relationship with foreign media compared to the rest of the world. America as I understand, with the exception of the occasional flick, didn't get an influx of foreign non-anglo media, (except for video games) until the late-90s anime boom (which was still way late and not as mainstream compared to other countries) whereas other countries had, on top of their own local media, American movies, TV shows and Music since the 50s/60s, Japanese Anime since the 70s, Latin media in the 80s and Korean media in the 2000s though of course it still depends on the country.

Kpop and K-drama weren't even that mainstream in the US until very recently, and even now is still barely treated on equal footing with US media stuff.

And thus, East Asian thing is effectively othered as being "Anime".

That's a fair question! In the past I have struggled with making the assumption that most people on the internet are he/him, so I have worked very hard to ingrain neutral pronouns into my vocabulary. I also do not know the poster on any sort of personal level and it makes sense to me to remain less pointed, I don't want it to sound like I am speaking for her. I am super open to be educated though Excel as always, would most people consider referring to a third party they do not know with they/theirs? I will happily recalibrate and strictly use only the pronouns listed in that case. I appreciate you calling it out for sure!
