How can the mods put a blanket ban on one game for things someone has said, and yet this one gets a free pass even though it is LITERALLY funding actual deaths?Surely, for balance, ALL discussion of this game should be officially banned including any OT ? The initial message that there would be no OT and no discussion of the game is black-and-white except for when I think about it in conjunction with the existing thread on JK. It seems inevitable that JK and other shitheads are going to use the sales and popularity of the game to validate their terrible beliefs, and it seems like we won't be able to push back and discuss articles, interviews, whatever that come about because of the game.I will say I appreciate how understanding and open the moderators/administrators have been these last few days. The initial announcement and subsequent handling of some questions around the announcement seemed prickly to say the least, and I was afraid to even ask any questions. There were a few posts of mine that definitely walked the line, and I worried after posting that the hammer was incoming. I'll do better.

I think that we're entering territory that will be taken as a circumvention of the rules of discussing the game. I think the rule is clear to me - when in doubt, don't discuss the game.

The wizard game was a very unique situation.That should not be the norm for games going forward, i'm all for putting a disclaimer in the eventual OT, but if we start banning games for their investors, that's going to a open up a shit ton of other games to being banned as well. The whole "no ethical consumption under capitalism" thing means most of what we consume unfortunately will be funding someone else's harm.
I understand the argument about wanting this game banned, but all of this 'well, we banned that other game, so we should ban every game' is getting major side-eye. You can make have perfectly good reasoning for why you think we shouldn't talk about this game without trying to make it about the perfectly legitimate reasoning why Hogwarts was banned.

What's the point in allowing discussion of a game when it stands no chance of actually being discussed without derailment?
Just give it a week or two. Everyone upset will move on to wanting to ban something else they never had any intention of playing anyway.

Yes, there are some legitimate concerns surrounding the game's financing. But if you are going to make the claim that Mundfish (and by extension, anyone buying the game) is funding actual genocide, you better have some really good receipts handy.

I would also be interested in an official mod response on the Atomic Heart allegations. I keep seeing a lot of people post circumstantial evidence as 100% fact and I find posts like this one to be extremely aggressive and alarmist. People keep saying it's "incredibly likely" the developers support the war or that their profits are going towards the Russian war effort, but everything I've found on this topic has been basically twitter/reddit sleuthing that has led to people jumping to conclusions. And honestly, seeing people try to virtue signal by saying shit like "oh so you all care about boycotting the terf game but you don't care about giving money to the Russian government?" when they're not remotely the same thing feels borderline offensive to me.I'm sure some people here are going to disagree with the statements I've made above. But I've done the research and I have not seen any actual proof that Atomic Heart and Mundfish are directly benefitting the Russian war effort, and I'm exhausted by seeing people constantly present it as fact with zero pushback whatsoever. Like I said in the thread I linked, I have no issues with people making their own decisions because they're uncomfortable with the game likely being funded by a Russian oligarch, but I think accusing people who play the game as supporting war crimes is a step way too far.
