Our public broadcaster produced a live TV show called: 'The night of the vaccination' because tommorow the first Dutch healthcare worker will be vaccinated and it kicks off our nation wide vaccination campaign.
It featured medical experts, medical staff, vaccine researchers and also some random people giving their take on the vaccinations.
The poll showed that 75% of the Dutch population are open to taking the vaccination, 15% don't.
99% of the people open to vaccination want the vaccine to protect their friends and family but mandatory vaccination is not supported.
With medical staff that number was higher: 90% y / 10% n and this is great news considering the usual coverage of the flu shot among medical staff is about 30%.
67% still trusts the government and backs the PM's Covid response, which is fairly high considering all the fuck ups.
The numbers surprised everybody the anti-vax movement is very vocal and organized but not as large as first expected.
Overall I feel like they should've produced something like this much sooner. I felt they explained quite well things like how the vaccine was made, how it was done so quickly and what's actually in it.
It was also nice to hear from people and scientists actually working in the labs, hospitals and nursery homes what their experiences and challenges are without having the filter of some politician or spokesperson talking on behalf of them.
I think the moment that hit the hardest was the story the woman told who is getting vaccinated tommorow about her work in caring for dementia patients and having to turn around so the patients can hug her shoulder.
She can't explain any of this to them and she's not able to completely ignore them as that would be inhumane and she's the only contact most of those people are allowed to see.
She also told a story about being the only one in the room when someone died because the family could not be there because of COVID.
People on social media delivering hot takes about MSM propaganda and 'truth videos' throughout the show suddenly went completely silent for a moment.
Wilders has also announced today he's taking the vaccine. Although he does not believe that all the lockdown measures the government has enacted are effective, he called on everyone to take the vaccine once it is available.
Among his supporters there were a lot of people undecided or afraid and his endorsement of the vaccine is a big blow to the anti-vax movement. It probably results in the undecided people accepting the vaccine increasing the yes share from 75% to as high as 90%.
That ironically leaves Baudet and van Haga whose FVD party has collapsed(because of soros conspiracies, a failed coup in his party ranks and antisemitism scandals) along with DENK (the minority party of the Turks and Moroccans) as the sole anti-vaxxers in parliament.
