I bet it's hella expensive in Tokyo, though. Is the local whisky good value for the price in comparison? I remember my favorite whiskey bar got itself a bottle of hibiki and was trying really hard to sell drinks to customers at a huge markup some time ago. (My usual bartender snuck me a couple of shots for free, though. What a hero.) Hibiki is about US$40/bottle here at ¥4500. Yamazaki and Hakushuu are about ¥4000, and the entirely unimpressive Chita is ¥3800. There are some regular whiskies which are cheaper, for sure, but I don't mess with them. I've had a fair amount of the tasty Nikka Black, but it is a guaranteed hangover.
Jim Beam Rye is my current go-to, and it's only ¥1400, cheaper than the US$16-18 I was seeing in the USA.
Better than that, Pampero's Aniversario rum is only ¥2400 here, but BevMo's price was US$50.
