Switch games are going to look like (technical, the art is quite good on some of them) shit because they're running on underpowered hardware because Nintendo chooses not to compete on tech specs. It's been this way for over 25 years, y'all, and it ain't changing anytime soon.
The problem is that for the first time they have 3rd party support.
My most played games are Asphalt and Minecraft and both and struggling on switch even though they're also on cell phone
On the newest track, Asphalt literally runs at 5fps in one section
I mean the thing is, they're getting all this 3rd party support because 1) cheap indie games will run on anything and 2) their specs were juuuuuuuust in the neighborhood of the PS4/Xbone enough to where ports would be downgraded but "ok" enough. Once PS5 and Xeries games become the norm for developers? Kiss channel 2 goodbye, but Nintendo are nothing if not 110% comprised of hubris and disdain for the rest of the industry.
The industry has been set back a year.
I imagine this product is what they wanted to launch early this year or perhaps even last year along with Animal Crossing.
An OLED screen certainly makes a difference for handheld play as does the improved audio. Survey's have shown that most people play Switch in handheld mode.
Nintendo kept saying how they wanted to sell more multiple Switches to the same household prior to the COVID-19 bioweapon attack i.e. you buy a new Switch, your partner/child/roommate/cuck gets the old one.
Switch could lose momentum when/if Xbox Series and PS5 consoles are up for grabs and there's a slate of next-gen games released.
However, most of those are delayed and Nintendo has a fairly strong line-up. Plus with most games still being made for both PS4 and PS5 they don't have to worry about missing out on downgraded ports.
Nintendo is basically uncontested in the handheld gaming market right now and this year they're banking in on Game Boy nostalgia with WarioWare, Metroid and a slate of RPG's.
If you wanted to buy a Switch this year for the new line-up you can get a slightly upgraded model, if you already own one these upgrades probably won't convince you to replace it but you can still buy the new games.
