Step back and take a global perspective.. Returnal for example got thrashed for being $70 (of course I wish was cheaper.. and is a damn good game cuz there's nothing else like it), why not this for $60?  Sure, it's a full fledged Metroidvania (finally) and will hopefully be damn good too, but my point is, when compared to other, recent metroidvanias (above), it's a bit of an N shaped pill to swallow.

Returnal was made by an indie developer whose previous games were like $20-$30 each...and even they were surprised at the price.  I'd love to have Nintendo games sell for less, but it being sixty bucks on the Switch shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

True.. Yeah, even Housemarque didn't know.  I'm sure it's the same with Dread (which I pre-ordered this morning actually :D)  I hope it delivers, because I am hyped for it.

Skipping Mario Golf. Reviews are pretty weak for full price. Sounds like the kind of game you'd get a half-price except that it's a 1st party Nintendo title so good luck on that.

Reviews are all over the place- Polygon said it's "the best Mario sports game in over a decade."  I got it yesterday- it's pretty much what you'd expect from a Camelot/Clap Handz golf game.  What's nice is that you can set the options so that you don't have to take turns and can go at the same time in regular stroke play, and then there's the crazier speed golf and battle modes.  Speed golf has everyone playing at the same time on the field and when you hit the ball, you then have to run after it for the next shot.  You can speed up, jump, and use a special ability.  There's also ways to dizzy the other players or fuck up their ball placement.  It's kinda crazy and fun.  Battle mode is similar, but instead of being on a course, you're in an arena and there's stage hazards around like bob-ombs and chain chomps.  My concern is that the game only has six courses total.  Seems kind of small?  But other than that, it's solid all-around.  I haven't checked out the adventure mode either.

While I wouldn't expect to see it discounted super-quick, IIRC Mario Tennis has gone for as low as $25-$30 at times.

I need to play it some more for a more definitive answer, but I don't think you can really go wrong with it.  It's a solid arcadey-golf game.

Just to note- there is no virtual console on the Switch.  If you pay for the online service, you can get access to the SNES and NES apps that have a selection of games available.  This will also work with the SFC and Famicom apps (just make a Japanese account and they'll work after you designate your main account as primary, IIRC) and there's some differences with what's available.

I was so hyped after all these years and GAF hype to play this game in English and then I finally got it, dropped dead after 5 minutes with no explanation whatsoever. It seems like one of those 'be in the right place at the right time to advance' types of games, and there aren't any good gamefaqs guides to use, so I dropped it. The Zelda-esque 'quirky' characters didn't really grab me either.

$350- appears to just be a screen change and more on-board storage space- nothing on 4K output from the dock, DLSS, or any of that.  Has a better stand and the dock now has an ethernet port.

I mean the thing is, they're getting all this 3rd party support because 1) cheap indie games will run on anything and 2) their specs were juuuuuuuust in the neighborhood of the PS4/Xbone enough to where ports would be downgraded but "ok" enough. Once PS5 and Xeries games become the norm for developers? Kiss channel 2 goodbye, but Nintendo are nothing if not 110% comprised of hubris and disdain for the rest of the industry.

The industry has been set back a year.

I imagine this product is what they wanted to launch early this year or perhaps even last year along with Animal Crossing.
An OLED screen certainly makes a difference for handheld play as does the improved audio. Survey's have shown that most people play Switch in handheld mode.
Nintendo kept saying how they wanted to sell more multiple Switches to the same household prior to the COVID-19 bioweapon attack i.e. you buy a new Switch, your partner/child/roommate/cuck gets the old one.

Switch could lose momentum when/if Xbox Series and PS5 consoles are up for grabs and there's a slate of next-gen games released.
However, most of those are delayed and Nintendo has a fairly strong line-up. Plus with most games still being made for both PS4 and PS5 they don't have to worry about missing out on downgraded ports.
Nintendo is basically uncontested in the handheld gaming market right now and this year they're banking in on Game Boy nostalgia with WarioWare, Metroid and a slate of RPG's.

If you wanted to buy a Switch this year for the new line-up you can get a slightly upgraded model, if you already own one these upgrades probably won't convince you to replace it but you can still buy the new games.
