I just love that feeling in MH3 running, panning the camera around, queing up and item, while reading their animation and movement. Multitasking made awesome.

As much "stick" as The Claw gets for being "painful" etc - even when polishing off the end of 3rdP on the Vita i still preferred to play with the claw than have the second stick mapped to camera.
The speed our team got giant bomb creation from scratch down whilst running around was pretty epic
The CPP was entirely useless except for one game (RE Revelations)
you -can- play MH3G quite easily without it and i can only see it being an issue when you get to some of the late end fights where you absolutely need to be running one way, whilst seeing what the monster is doing, whilst preparing your next trap/bomb etc.
It makes playing Kingdom Hearts a lot less of a hassle, too. I haven't tried it with Snake Eater because Metal Gear is shittiest of shit, but surely it helps things out there, right? MGS uses every button on a PS2 controller and then some, I can't imagine mapping everything onto one less stick and fewer buttons worked out all that well.
I have two 3DS games but nothing to play them on. :(
What's been holding me back: No MonHun. If 3G was localized the 3DS would have three major third party games I'd really want (MGS, KH, MH) in addition to the staple of Nintendo stuff I secretly get off on.
Of course a main Pokemon game would make me get it ASAP.
For the XL specifically I'm sort of holding off until its CPP gets shown.
I have Ghost Wars, does it have online? No, it doesn't. They were planning on putting it in, but the dev team ran out of time or money.
If you prefer home consoles and want to play Metal Gear, you might want to get a PS2/PS3 instead.
yeah, i have some bad news about that MGS3 port to 3DS , Andrex.... :/

doesn't matter since he's an Nfan so he's gonna eat shit and like it.
do both people have to add friendcodes, or have they fixed that yet?
Really like Resident Evil. Just what I wanted to sooth me over until RE6.
3DS Red is same color as Virtual Boy Red, you know I had to get that shit.

Well do you have pics to show what the fuck you are talking about? RE and Ghost Recon text look fine.
I guess that's true regardless. The only thing Inoticed is how awful the typos are in RE script... jesus. lol

Examples plz
At least the system light blinks or whenever when a friend comes online. Or something.
I dunno, seems logical to me the system would need to be online to check that stuff. Lack of a proper account system sucks of course.
Shaka- take following steps:
1. Make sure that the firmware is up to date on both systems and that each is plugged in or fully-charged.
2. Copy the contents of your 2GB 3DS SD card to the 4GB SD card that comes in the XL.
3. Put the 4GB card into the old 3DS and leave the XL empty.
4. Start the transfer process.
5. Press "OK" on 40 different menus.
6 Your shit will copy over. It takes a while.
7. At the end you can take the 4GB card and put it into the XL.
8. Your original 3DS will be restored to factory settings.
Which color did you get, Demi?
I haven't noticed any yellow tint, but I don't own an original 3DS to do a side-by-side comparison.
I read that the new speakers on XL are noticably "weaker" than the OG unit... and I would agree with them, the sound does feel low for being at max
Dark10x was complaining about some more pronounced dithering when playing it on the 3DS. How noticeable is that?

It's not bad at all- Dark10x tends to notice those little details nobody else does anyway. :P
Ghost Recon is great. I completed the entire campaign on elite. Hands down my favorite 3DS game of 2011.
Here I took a pic...

Experience the shame of buying a 3DSXL all over again.:lol :lol :lol
yet strangley enough he sticks to consoles (mainly the PS3) :lol
he tends not to notice them on ps3. 59 fps on an xbox game and he'll screech bloody murder, variable 20-30 fps on ps3 and he'll say oh it's okay cuz motion blur or some shit.
I'm not taking it back... the unit works fine and the shell is fine unless I deliberately open it like shown.

it is funny how he blasted Gamecube and Xbox for poor visuals and yet he praised ps2 all the fucking time. Could dark10x be the biggest hypocrite of all time?

This is coming from a guy who will buy any lump of shit as long as it was pinched from a Swedish developer's ass.
So games.
What is scheduled for x-mas?
Luigis Mansion got pushed, as well as Castlevania
Paper Mario, Professor Layton, Code of Princess, 999 sequel, Epic Mickey are coming in the next few months

DUDES
StreetPass is so shit!
I got like 50 passes at the DIstant Worlds show. I was pretty excited to get more puzzle pieces and play Find Mii.
Then I find out it only uses the "latest" Mii you passed. What bullshit is that!
It stores up to 10 and then you have to check them and play with them or you don't get any more StreetPasses. Once you've checked them, you have to play with them before you check the gate again, or else you can't play with them.
I mean, as the irritating text boxes that jump up EVERY FUCKING TIME (NINTENDARGH) say.

:piss buying stuff on nintendo's archaic network :piss2
There is a demo on the eShop
Any updates on the features and stuff? Or just a date?
- First Mr. Resetti appearance
- Booker has his own lost and found shop
- Decide what shops to build
- Decide when shops open
- Exchange designs via QR Codes
- Furniture colors can be changed
- More will come through a special Nintendo Direct broadcast just for the game
But that's all besides the point here. You're trying to imply that Theatrhythm isn't a worthwhile product, or is a bad value or something. You're wrong.
But that's all besides the point here. You're trying to imply that Theatrhythm isn't a worthwhile product, or is a bad value or something. You're wrong. I was skeptical of Theatrhythm, too, before I played it. But the core gameplay is fresh (which isn't easy for a rhythm game, even Harmo-Knight cribs *heavily* from Space Channel 5), the RPG elements are implemented in an interesting way that gives you meaningful progress as you play, there are a ton of collectibles and challenges to complete, lots of awesome stuff to unlock, and a massive list of songs available even if you don't dip into the DLC. Maybe you don't play rhythm games, but I do, and this one is probably one of the better values of any I've played. What could have by all rights been a quick and dirty overpriced cash-in is actually surprisingly well-thought out and full of stuff.

I was joking in order to prop up HarmoKnight. Of course if you're into it Theatrhythm is "worthwhile." My main point was Square is charging full price for it.
and Drill Dozer is fuck awesome and I and others will fight you if you say otherwise.

round 1 mother fucker. game was easy up til the last 2 or 3 levels and never seemed to fully take advantage of its mechanics. disappointment total. it was like yoshi's island except much smaller and not fun.
lol Super Mario Land 2 is literally the worst Nintendo-made Mario platformer. It's not awful, but man is it boring. Also features lousy collision and wonky-ass jump physics. Oh, and the massive size of Mario gives you a viewing area the size of a postage stamp. It's the only game I feel no remorse about putting below NSMB2 in the series. It's Sonic-quality.
Best handheld original Mario is probably 3D Land. That's kind of depressing, actually.
lolol buying stuff on that bad network. enjoy having to transfer everything every time.
Nah, you can't switch the buttons. I don't think Nintendo's ever going to come around on that.
Yeah, definitely got a Bit.Trip Runner vibe more than an SC5 one.
I was referring to the bosses, rather than the stages. The stages are very much Bit.trip Runner, the bosses are very much right-up-right-up-chu-chu-chu.
yeah except you cant sell that shitty ass game back once you finish. now your out 20$.
coulda used that for a lapdance at some shitty club instead of jacking it to empflix
This UI is FRICKING GARBAGE
This is a step down from the Wii shop and that's saying something. WTF Nintendo.
The XL is easily one of the best upgrades, and handhelds in general, that I've purchased. Unlike the OG 3DS, it just feels right in my hand, more so than the Vita.
I bought one for I am a weakling. Kid Icarus is sick.

Can we update the OP or throw up a new sticky for 3DS friend codes so I don't have to hunt through this thread to add everyone?
Just got this yesterday with 3D Land and NSMB2. 3D Land is wonderful; NSMB2 so far is eh. About to buy KH as well.
This thing is really cool. Everything feels much better. Only thing is that the 3D seems to ghost a bit. Anyone else getting that?
Best handheld original Mario is probably 3D Land. That's kind of depressing, actually.
You actually meant Wario Land there.

Wario Land is a totally different series yo.
Nah, first Wario Land was SML3.
Friend codes don't really do much atm right? Like, the only thing they do for reals is allow you to jump into online mario kart games?
I would probably post mine if any of you had zen pinball 3d (high scores~). Probably my favorite game on the system.
MARIO IS IN THREE DEE
MARIO IS RACING A KART
MARIO IS PLAYING TENNIS
MARIO IS COLLECTING COINS
...
Oh hey Theatrhythm, I'd play that.spoiler (click to show/hide)3d Land and Kart too :uguu[close]

They help me pretend I have friends. :(
I played Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, and Mario Tennis. All fine games.
The biggest downside is that the buttons are too small and that the buttons and the triggers could really cramp the hands if played extensively.
All the SML games were atrocious Andy.

its only 6 pages. dont be lazy, tubs.
Then don't say my criticisms are not legitimate, because they are. You're basically accusing me of making shit up to smear SML2's fine name or something here.
You've also once again assumed something about me (that you've played SML2 more than me? You have absolutely no way of knowing how much I've played, so unless you've played this game abnormally more than most humans by some major stretch, that's a pretty presumptuous thing to do, particularly given our relative ages would favour me in this kind of scenario), and pretty much every time you do that, it ends up blowing back on you.
For an example of the collision, check what happens when you take damage in SML2 vs what happens when you take damage in other Mario games. When Mario takes a hit in SML2, there's no impact at all.
Mario also tends to take damage from things he hasn't visually touched, particularly spikes and obstacles along those lines.
The floatiness is the floatiness. Mario has less weight to him in SML2 than he does in other games. I don't even see how that's disputable.
Maybe you don't mind that, but I do. That you've heard that about other games from other people in other places is not salient to our present discussion, and I don't appreciate you treating me like I'm some trolling idiot.
It's okay, I like Super Mario Land 2, Andrex. Give me your friend code. :heart
The square smiley-face on the top bar goes to Friends List, and then you have to make a Mii if you haven't already, then your Mii card has your FC on it.
I took the "standards" shot at you because you took the "your criticisms are not legitimate" shot at me first, Andrex.
As to why I would have played a game I didn't like more than someone who did like it, well, when you're a kid and you only get two games a year, you play what you get. At least the span of Christmas '92 to birthday '93 wasn't as bad as birthday '90 to Christmas '90 when my new game was 8-Eye's.
I would have bought Samurai Warriors, Tales of the Abyss, and Ghost Recon but they weren't there.SW is always good times. :rock
Erm, thought I made it pretty clear it was just a cheap shot to hit back at you in a way I knew would bother you. I'm not "taking it back", but there wasn't any truth behind it, if that helps any. I just knew it would irritate you, so I used it. That's as much as you'll get from me about it, I'm afraid.
jesus christ andrex, you are such a homo. You actually wrote that shit up instead of just having someone like lyte edge make up a 3ds friend codes thread, copy and paste peoples codes, and then sticky it? No, you have to go through all of that trouble make a google doc, write up some fancy code, and have people enter their crap on that site?
he had some anger to work out
some people work on projects when that happens, other people post pictures of giant fake wieners
Best Buy has B2G1 this week on all 3DS games.
And apparently their DOTD tomorrow is Kid Icarus for $15. So stay up if you want it because that shit is gonna get raped the minute it starts.

You can get it at Amazon right now.

Yeah, I just mean for the B2G1 deal. All they've got at my local Best Buy besides first party games is Kingdom Hearts, Theatrhythm, and Resident Evil.
I still want to get Samurai Warriors, Ghost Recon, Tales of the Abyss, and Shinobi.

I wish I'd known you're interested in Samurai Warriors and Ghost Recon before I traded them at GS for what felt like pennies in store credit.
I played the demo and the controls seemed awkward. I kept reaching for a second stick that wasn't there. :(
The graphics were just amazing though. :o
Circle Pad Pro XL is never coming out.
Okay, the 3DS XL. Why are the buttons so tiny? This should be the 3DS: Grown Ass Man Edition, but it still has little tiny Japanese buttons. Also, why does the VC suck so much ass? Why can't you play NES/SNES/N64 games, instead of a few GB games and SMB and Zelda. That's distinguished mentally-challenged. People give some Sony crap for the way they've dropped the ball on the Vita (and rightfully so) but the amount of fucks Nintendo gives about the 3DS is 0, at least when it comes to making it do anything that any one would actually want it to do. I forgot how distinguished mentally-challenged Nintendo is. :'(
OTOH, Super Mario 3D Land is firing it's hot load of whimsy right into my gamer g-spot. :tauntaun

List of games? I'll buy some.
Why are you selling them? You dont need the money with a good paying job. Hold on to them.
I wish I could sell off all my Wii games, but most of them (and the system) are Japanese, so nobody cares. Thinking I might just bring the games to sell off next time I'm over there. Will likely keep the Wii for the few games I think are worth it.

Do you have the Japanese version of Metoid: Other M? I'd be happy to take that off your hands! :D
Yes, but not with an R4, all the chinese shit cards are blocked. You can't pirate 3DS games...
Resident Evil is good, but it hasn't really felt much like Resident Evil.
Mario 3DLand is pretty easy but goddamn, once you get Luigi its like a brand new fucking game
Resident Evil is good, but it hasn't really felt much like Resident Evil.
How so? It reminded me of the older RE games with an RE4/RE5 perspective.
And Raid Mode is really where it's at!

Nah the "harder" levels had zero creativity and made levels harder by adding time limits and shit. Not to take away from the original levels
How is Skylanders? Anybody tried it? I understand the 3DS version is a bit more platform-y/interesting than the console/PC versions which look like they play a bit too much like the Lego games. Classic Game Room liked the 3DS version more.
I'm mostly interested cos the StarCon2 guys worked on it and some of the gameplay hooks are pretty reminiscent of Starcon2.
I've also played quite a bit of NSMB2 and I'm going to have to call out all you dorks who said this was a bad or a mediocre game. This is actually a pretty good game and I'm enjoying this game more than I did NSMB Wii overall. It's a solid B+ game for sure.
Finished Resident Evil... it was pretty shit. Hardly worth the name Resident Evil.
Started playing Zelda 3D... I really like this one. Great remake.
be sure to read this before you pick it up

It's very possible that Shin Megami Tensei IV and Etrian Odyssey IV don't get European releases, so I guess that leaves Fire Emblem for me. What's Yatagarasu and why should I be excited for it?
No idea how they did, my numbers don't go back that far under a certain sales threshold. They can't have been very good though, if Natsume didn't bother with the DS games.
Bork, you dont like any of these games since you only mention 3 games on the other thread?
Ex Troopers.
Yatagarasu(yeah i am gonna pimp this game as much as i can)
SMT4
DQM:Terry's Wonderland
Etrian Odyssey IV
Medabots 7(better than pokemon games imo)
Monster hunter 4
Pheonix Wright VS Layton
Pheonix Wright(the new one)
Culdcept
Fire Emblem
Maybe you hate sequels? I am just curious why these are off your radar considering you have a 3ds aswell.

I don't generally care for RPGs.
But I definitely forgot some stuff. I'm certainly interested in:
-EX Troopers (was this announced outside of Japan?)
I think it was actually announced that it's not leaving japan

Dunno about the PW/Layton game. If it's like PW, yeah. But the Layton games have never interested me.
I'd be more hyped for Yatagarasu if it had online play. If it's just gonna end up a 3DS port of the three(?) year old fighting game with local multi, it's gonna be worthless.
On your first point, again, I'm not talking about the actual speed of the games when I say they feel like a drag. And yes, "from what I hear". What would you like me to say? I haven't played them, but I have heard from many people that Black and White shook up the single player a bit more than they usually do. Is that not true? Is it an issue for me to say that?
As for BW2, my son has it, and so do a few of my students. My son, who is completely Poketarded and has put more than a hundred hours into BW2 said it's more or less the same thing as BW. For him, that's fine. For you, that's fine. For people who skip Pokemon because it feels like it just spins its wheels from installment to installment, it's not fine.
As for the Post Game/Battle Frontier stuff, I believe you, but I question the wisdom of hiding the interesting, new, hardcore content behind 25 hours of the same old shit. I realize, again, that's not a problem for you or the fans of Pokemon, but for everyone else, saying "dude, there's great content that may be of interest to you, all you have to do is clear the main game. How's the main game? Oh pretty much the same as it always is, why?" is not going to bring smiles to faces. Can Nintendo just throw a skip button in there or something?
Did you really call out Oscar's son, Andrex?
:punch
OK Himu. I probably should have used the Elder Scrolls series then. I HEAR (:teehee) that series is getting dumbed down with each iteration in addition to being the same old stuff. WHERES THE INNOVASHUN

Oscar's son is the kid with six Pikachus and I'm the dude trading with myself. And Himu's the pedo.

huh? Skyrim was hardly dumbed down. Anyone who says it is, is a dumbass. In any case, Elder Scrolls isn't the same thing over and over, they have different stuff. Skyrim has a complete retooling of the skill system. Past Elder Scrolls had point allocation, Skyrim allows you to do whatever x amount of times to level up your skills, so doing blacksmithing a lot will raise your blacksmith skill rather than start a new game and allocate points into blacksmith. This changes the entire game because it makes playstyles more fluid. That's hardly dumbed down, because many rpgs have been doing that since the goddamn 80's.
As usual, my attempts to find a middle ground have resulted in one of the dogs biting me (and my son too this time for a change), so I have no idea why I bother.

??? Previous Elder Scrolls worked in similar ways, you do things and it levelled up the relative attributes which govern a skill, each attribute has 3 skills. Skyrim did away with the old attributes (where you divided between major and minor) whittling it down to health, magicka and stamina, keeping skills and adding perks. They definitely simplified the old systems a lot (dumbed down if you will) which was good since Oblivions skill system was ridiculously esoteric and grindy and Morrowinds was similar but slightly less distinguished mentally-challenged, not to mention the complexity of getting into alchemy or enchanting. Skyrims simplified systems were nowhere near perfect though, they were really, really abusable; 5 hours into the game you could have a build that would destroy anything on Master without cheating (I didn't mind this since ES is about exploration). Perks were a good addition and taken from their better game (Fallout 3) but the 'constellation' menu has to be one of the worst examples of form over function in menu design I've ever seen, I remember Todd Howard going on about how they took design cues from Apple.... lol. tl;dr they just replaced the old attributes system with perks, but their thin layer of polish hardly covered the fact it was just as broken if not more so than previous ES games.
Then again, I'm talking to a guy who described Morrowind as wanky.. What the hell does that even mean? For a series that should excel in exploration Morrowind was the only game in the series that really nailed it. So in that sense Skyrim was most definitely dumbed down.
I've had a completely different experience with Skyrim and prefer Skyrim to Morrowind. I find Skyrim rewards exploration better than Morrowind, and I played 60 hours of Skyrim and still have trouble with my archer build. But more than that, your argument is not convincing. More simplistic does not equate to dumbed down. Dumbed down is taking out less options, especially in regards to rpgs. Skyrim does NOT in any way offer LESS options. Dumbing down is Baldur's Gate 2 allowing you to customize your characters shit from alignment (which ranges from chaotic, neutral, chaotic neutral, lawful;etc), race and more to KOTOR and Mass Effect's only allowing you to play as a human with a crappy alignment system that only allows for two ( or even a gray-ish third) playstyle.
THAT is dumbing down. Does Skyrim still allow you to do same shit you could do in Morrowind except not force you to allocate numbers? Yes? Then it's not dumbed down, it's just a more simplistic and more fluid example of the same exact play style/
When did I say Morrowind was wanky? I don't even know what you're talking about.
uhhhhhhh mostly everyone in the thread has been lambasting oblivion and loves skyrim.

For the recrod, I think Morrowind is boring wank, Oblivion is ok, and Fallout 3 was great but nothing amazing. Skyrim, however, is the best damn rpg in years and objectively the best game I've played all year along Portal 2, Saints Row The Third and Tactics Ogre. What in the hell are you talking about? Have you read impressions of the game like, at all?
Read my edit!
Morrowind's not really boring. It's mostly just not fun to play for me, especially if combat is concerned.
Code of Princess is 4-player online, we gonna do this?
i've already played ps2 version. game rox.
This must be your first JRPG
No, he's played Pokémon.
Pokemon is also aimed at young twee japa boys and girls. Only magnified tenfold.
TotA is garbage. don't waste anymore hours into andrex. play devil survivor oc instead
You're garbage, ho
just watch the anime instead and tell your friend the game was fine
Three original games from LEVEL-5 and several well-known Japanese collaborators will launch in the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS before this holiday season. The first of these games, SUDA 51’s LIBERATION MAIDEN, is set 100 years in the future, when the president of Japan boards her Liberator, Kamui, and fights to free her country one region at a time. AERO PORTER by Yoot Saito and Yasumi Matsuno’s CRIMSON SHROUD are also slated for release by the end of the year.
yasumi matsuno :fbm
will have to buy a 3ds now :gloomy
What is Unchained Blades and why should I care?
It's a dungeon crawler, and you shouldn't care because it is an RPG and there are no Pokemon in it.
I've only liked a few, and I don't even remember what they were.
you workshy nthing jizz mop
Kid Icarus is pretty awesome.
It's Japan, so complete in box probably with yet-unused club nintendo code and original game smell, hahaand he was 100% accurate. It does have the Club Nintendo code. I got a copy of Dobutsu no Mori for N64 recently and it was mint too! Why can't America be like this? And people wonder why I want to live in Japan.
Got Code Of Princess :hyper
More interested in playing Retro City Rampage today though...
Kid Icarus is pretty awesome.
i really wish the game was just the flying stuff though. Great game, but the ground sections were pretty ordinary on the whole.
But the downside if that this game is clearly not 60 fps (not even sure it's 30 fps), still has some slowdown (which they claimed would be fixed from the J-release), and the game play feels a bit sluggish, however that may just be Solange herself, since she uses a big sword.

Any difference with 3D off?
is it true that if I use a ds r4 card on a 3ds it'll brick the system? I just want a way to have all my ds games in one location while playing games I missed out on, but own, like Dragon Quest VI.
getting 3ds. what are best games? want shinobi and that's about it as far as must plays. Mostly wanna use it as a ds until SMT4, Animal Crossing come out.
I hope they don't.
:piss Piracy. :piss2
I just don't know if it's worth getting a 3ds now or later. 3ds line up is dry and if I wanna play ds games I could just emulate.
Isn't poke'mon black and white 2 a direct sequel to bw1? I never played bw1.

Andrex will be pleased to know I got Poke'mon Bw2 instead of Shinobi.

Himu has a job, he doesnt need to support piracy.
that's why I like usb loading on the wii
:ninja
USB loading is fine since you rip the games yourself. Dolphin too.
But I dunno, the fact you can't do that for DS games for R4 or whatever makes it a lot shakier IMO. To get a game you need to go to... certain sites, and the temptation to just fill up on all you can is just too close for comfort.
YMMV.
I've been meaning to use that homebrew program that lets you load up GC games on the wii from a usb drive, but I'd have to reformat the external (it's still on WBFS :-X ). It would take forever.
My skills have NOT dulled. :maf
And I just wanted a traditional rpg. I haven't played one in so long, and a Poke'mon title even longer. This is the first Poke'mon title I've bought since Blue and I really like it.
ha ha, look at the tears from the babbies
At the store, the guy who sold me Poke'mon Black 2 was named Andrew. When I looked at the digital reciept thing that you swipe your card through, I thought it said Andrex. I looked up nervously, he just smiled and nodded.
Text is fine in BW2.
Also Lillipup is the cutest Poke'tard ever.
You can hold down select(?) as you click the card slot icon and it should display DS games in their native resolution. Looks almost identical to the DSL in size. A lot better than the old 3ds anyway.

Yeah, I beat em with my level 8 and 10's. The first gym doesn't have weaknesses though!
I didn't enjoy the Rev demo much either but mostly cause I kept reaching for the nonexistent second pad. :-\ I was so distracted by that I didn't notice the bullet sponges, but I knew something was off about them. I hate bullet sponges. >:(
I can tell it's a quality game though, but... Gonna wait for the XL CPP/eShop release.
I caught every Poke'mon I encountered! In hindsight it was probably a bad idea because the dark grass on the way to the next city has higher level version of the poke'mon I already caught. :(
Theatrhythm made me cry. :(

Apparently there were some Riolu on the ranch but I never saw them (again, I avoided wild battles.) Would have definitely got one if I had, Lucario would probably break the first half of the game by itself.
Tried the Resident Evil: Revelations demo. I like the idea and atmosphere of it, but combat takes too much work. It takes too much effort to kill these enemies; too many shots, too many knife hits, and there doesn't seem to be an RE4/5 hit spot (knee, head, arm) system in place either, which makes melee feel really random. Am I doing something wrong?

I got one of those Riolu's.
You act like I care. I kicked Cheren's ass with a level 9 Poke'mon against his level 13.
I think that the 3ds will probably see a giant reboot of the Poke'mon series, and if Nintendo makes another top down 2d version instead of a full expansive 3d version with visuals similar to Dragon Quest VIII, they are fools.
The next Poke'mon needs to be something completely from left field, and a completely transformation to the third dimension. This is a prime opportunity to not be seen as hacks, though playing Black 2 shows they're far from hacks. I think doing this would make them more bucks than usual.
If you have 6 Poke'mon, and go up against trainers that are levels 8-9, you aren't going to get much XP, since XP is shared, and you can only fight trainers once. Oops!
This ultimately doesn't matter, because kicking his ass is about effortless as taking a shit, but it's reasonable to note because it makes zero sense.
Also stronger than normal enemies does not equate to double the level! More than that, in many rpgs, the boss is about one level above the average - sometimes even the same level - and yet still stronger.
Finally, your argument that Poke'mon ISN'T grindy when you're fighting level 7 mobs when the boss is level 13, is kind of falling on deaf ears! Any other rpg would have raised the average level of the enemies to levels 11 or 12. Poke'mon keeps it at 4-7. :wtf Keep living in denial land, Andrex! Even SMT isn't that annoying to keep your demons levels up!

I never said it wasn't grindy, just that you shouldn't be grinding at this point in the game. There's no reason to do it. If you said on GAF you grinded in a Pokemon game you'd be laughed all the way back to your pink tickle fort. :lol
Your JRPG "knowledge" is hurting you. Ignore the level numbers, you're reading much more into them than you should be. They don't matter nearly as much as you believe them to.
Because level numbers MATTER.
In MOST rpgs blah blah blah
A good level scaling is CRUCIAL to rpg design. This is not complaining because "wah wah this is hard" this is complaining because "wah wah this isn't hard enough and yet mindlessly grindy."
This is from the same guy who, when playing jrpgs, never grinds or runs away and fights every single battle. Saying,"this series has no use for genre conventions!" is a cop out and proves my idea that Poke'mon is pointlessly grindy to a fault.
Do Poke'mon gain xp while in the pc?
Pokemon is SRS BSNS.
Don't like the excuse it's for kids considering DQ is for kids as well!
Don't like the excuse it's for kids considering DQ is for kids as well!
Playing pokemon expecting difficulty is erroneous period. When I play it I put some restrictions on myself to better enjoy the experience.
Let's talk about the eshop.
It is absolute shit.
This is the most barebones shop I have ever seen for a system out for a year and some change. Game Boy games for 4 dollars. Right. Fuck off, Nintendo. They didn't even have the audacity to put all of the snes/genesis/nes/turbografx;etc games on 3ds shop. That is beyond pathetic, considering even psp and vita support playstation classics. Never mind the fact Vita has been out for less than 3ds' whole year.
I'd love to support and buy fucking Final Fantasy III (snes) or Gunstar Heroes on this bitch but noooooooooo. What in the fuck.
Best 3ds game?

I checked to see what the freebie was from Club Nintendo and it was Urban Champion. I got it, but damn this game sucks. Why would they bother putting this crap on VC when there's a million better things?

Oh man, you've never played Urban Champion before? Terrible, isn't it? I remember I got it as a kid in the NES days and thought it was fantastic :lol Games sure have gotten better.
Every time I open up my 3ds clam shell, I have an urge to play Pokemon.

I don't understand why Nintendo doesn't have the decency to be ashamed of it. This isn't a "3D Classic".
Oscar, what's your opinion on why the NA Virtual Console is sub-par? Are they dribbling out games to maximize revenue? Indifference? Perceived lack of demand? Difficulty persuading third-party publishers to participate?
My opinion, for whatever it's worth (not much given how wrong I usually am, haha), is that there are a few things coming into play.
First, the Virtual Console on the Wii in NA showed very strong sales initially but then fell off very badly very quickly. Some say that would be because Nintendo stopped giving it proper attention, but the sales fell off well before Nintendo stopped giving a fuck, so it's likely the other way around. Anyway, the lack of long-term sales likely hasn't escaped the notice of everyone involved, which probably lowered motivation for the 3DS VC. It wasn't like that in Japan. The VC enjoyed pretty solid sales throughout the life of the console, probably because in the last generation Japan went on a major retro-kick thanks to the popularity of Game Center CX and the Famicom generation starting to hit their mid-life crises.
Second, some key third parties are proving to be pretty gunshy. I have a feeling Capcom saw poor returns on Mega Man GB and Gargoyle's Quest in NA, because despite releasing quite a lot in Japan, they've pretty much stopped doing anything outside Japan.
Third, Nintendo are definitely pacing their own releases to maximize sales and value. Part of that is because some of their titles are virtually non-salable when their better titles are sitting on the virtual shelf next to them. Part of that is probably because the reduced third party interest means Nintendo is trying to plan out how to support the thing on their own. The lack of GBA (and probably SNES as well), I'm willing to attribute to Nintendo not being satisfied with their emulators in their present state. They were really fussy about that on the Wii VC, so it's probably the same here. Judging by the ambassador GBA games, their GBA emulator is nowhere near the standards they had on Wii VC emulators.
Overall, though, it's about money. If VC made more money, more parties would be interested, up to and including Nintendo. It doesn't, and I don't think that really should surprise anyone. Probably 95% of the GB's library has been rendered valueless thanks to years of emulation and cheap alternatives on smartphones.
I'll be sad if Capcom doesn't release Metal Walker for VC. One of the hidden gems on the OG Game Boy (which is one of the more underrated platforms, along with Saturn and PC Engine).Oscar, what's your opinion on why the NA Virtual Console is sub-par? If you see that my mii is a girl don't get freaked out, I"m working issues out :(
No. Re-rating fees are often higher than what lesser-known games make on the VC, for one thing. For another thing, they can't just submit a ROM to Nintendo and call it a day. It has to go through testing/cert just like everything else, which costs more money.
And in the case of the big, famous titles, companies have to balance the potential income versus devaluing the game by putting it at Nintendo's mandated prices. That's why you're more likely to see SEGA games come quickly (as they've devalued the Genesis catalog into the ground via numerous cheap collections) than Square-Enix (who like to re-release their old games at near-full prices and even spit in the face of the App Store's economics).

I had no idea ESRB ratings were so costly! Are we talking in the $50000~$100000 range or something?

don't feel bad, he hasn't added me back either
probably salty about vita!
Any credence to the R/S/E remake rumors?Probably not.
Molemania is a pretty fucking awesome game.
I just went through eShop and I would get:
Wario Land (SML3)
Sword of Hope 2
Mario Golf (GBC)
Zelda DX
Mario Picross
SML2
Mega Man
VC is such a shit... could have been so much more across Wii and 3DS

If they give you the good stuff off the hop, you'll never buy the crappy stuff like Urban Champion. Seems like a pretty smart strategy to me.

- Crashmo and NightSky for original eShop stuff. Three of the Guild01 games have been/are being localized as well.
- Paper Mario, Prof Layton, Epic Mickey 2D for retail stuffs. You get DK original edition (arcade) for free if you buy one of the first two on eShop.
- Ghosts n Goblins NES and Castlevania Adventure GB hit yesterday, with Ninja Gaiden, Zelda 2, SMB2j, and Wario Land 2 hitting VC before the end of the year.
Not bad, but not outstanding.
Nightsky was originally supposed to be a WiiWare game before it ended up coming out on the PC two years ago.
Wait - aren't Nintendo games supposed to have went day/date on the 3DS? I was sort of hoping to pick up Paper MarioShould work for digital.
Someone please play GnG because I could really use a spare 3DS for parts.

3DS VC has save states though. Considering getting it on Wii just cause of that. ;)
If a game has infinite continues I'm A-OK with it. Otherwise I just give up (still haven't beaten SMB2 USA or the Genesis Sonic games cause of that. Fuck no infinite continues.)
Yeah, pretty rare. I sort of regret not buying them but me and the Metroid series have yet to click.
Maybe when I go back to Super Metroid and beat it, or they put Fusion on the 3DS VC I'll fall in love.
The Kirby Collection is coming out soon, and there was the Prime Trilogy before that.
Prime Trilogy is just "rare" because you can't rip it and play it off a HD properly, so people actually have to buy it. Or at least it wasn't playable the last time I checked a few years ago.
Dragon Quest VII coming to 3DS

I will say I do want to try 8 out whenever they get around to remaking/porting that, seems like it has a lot of fans on GAF and is a solid game.

This reminds me, I should open my sealed copies of VI & IX and start playing them.
i have spare sealed copies of all the DS DQ games (US versions)
infact, i should just out and out sell ALL my DS stuff.
Medabots 7 was seemingly off to a slow start from a sales perspective. But in its latest fiscal results, Imagineer (which owns publisher Rocket Company), noted that they were pleased with its performance thus far. Imagineer feels that the game has managed to reach longtime fans as well as newcomers.
We don’t have an exact sales number on Medabots 7. Having said that, it should have sold over 100,000 units since launch.
Mario's Picross VC is 100 coins on Club Nintendo
I swear I'm the sole customer of the franchise. My wife's like "why are you playing that? you keep flying around in circles on the same damn island!" And then I'm like :-\ because it's true.
There's a demo for Epic Mickey 3DS on eShop
Turn-based battles with no leveling or XP.
Nintendo pls.
No, I'm trying to run through Tales of the Abyss... I'm about 3/4 done. I forgot how much back and forth this game had.

People that prefer post-haircut Luke confuse me. He's just a cliche JRPG hero after that point.
More asswipes in video games.
Who cares about Luke?
Jade is the actual main character........ he comes up with all the plans and tells them what to do...
What's up with Anise anyways? Yeah great idea having an 11-year old nympho/gold digger in the game. And she's the bodyguard to one of the most important figureheads in the world... ???

Anise! That's her name. Terrible character.
Tales of the Abyss sucks. Sell your wii u for a 360 and play tales of vesperia.
Karol is okay. He's just forgettable, but when you got that awesome cast, I don't see a problem with that. I just never saw the praises people had for TotA. What's good about it? The characters? They all suck except for Tear and Guy (:heartbeat). Battle system? FLOTSAMS AND JETSAMS rarely work and have barely any strategic value. Dungeons? P'CHU. P'CHU. P'CHU. P'CHU. P'CHU. P'CHU. World map? Barren and runs at 5 fps. Story? Shit. Story pacing? Let's backtrack to every village in the game because we lack creativity.
Shit.

Except for the really shitty Samurai Warriors Katana, the SW series is pretty ace. Each installment has dramatic improvements over its predecessor. Samurai Warrior 3 was the best Musou game until DW7 and WO3 came out.

Two or three games will get you enough coins to get one of those. If you don't have coins, they're all available for regular purchase on the eShop. $3 for Metroid, $6 for Twinbee, $10 for 1080 and Mario Party.

VLR is on eShop in Europe but not NA. :maf
I guess Craplus doesn't want my sale.
Also, beat TotA, would buy other Tales ports. A Symphonia port would be a good start. Free money.
People who bother/care about full games on the eShop. :lol
What a bunch of simpletons, throwing money at a service/company leaving them with the short end of the stick.

You just have to worry about losing your 3DS... lol.
I'm all for the DD future and turning a blind eye to terms of use and fine prints, but I just can't get myself to accept the 3DS' offering. It inconveniences the user in every way (price, transferability, security, no extra activations, etc), but in return only offers the bare minimum: games on a stick.
Transferring my data from the fat to the XL was a huge pain the ass, required a network, took a long time, and it was all for a few saves, a couple of "we're sorry" roms, and two small downloadable games.
They have to do better than this, because I don't feel like rewarding their ineptitude.
So basically psp and ps1 stuff that you could have just bought on the psp... But seriously though, i am keeping my psp still because there is no need ot get a vita atm. Maybe when a good vita rpg gets released i will bite.
... Why are we talking vita in a 3ds thread anyway.

Good question.
If you're not a stingy dope you don't have to worry about that otherwise. It's not like Nintendo is Sony and making people use their overpriced proprietary BS.
Lest we forget how much storage Vita has. Or rather, how little. Or rather, how none.
Nintendo's motto for 2013: "It HAS to get better!"
Too bad it probably won't.
As opposed to filling the Vita card with, what? PS1 games? ::)
I actually think the 3DS isn't far from where the DS was at this point in time in terms of library, it's just that a lot of it is going untranslated (or is getting late translations).
Take the present US 3DS lineup (which I'd peg at about 25-30 decent retail titles and about 10 decent 3DS-specific eShop games (ie not VC or DSiware), add Rocket Slime 3, Dragon Quest Monsters, Bravely Default, Soul Hackers, Etrian Odyssey 4, Animal Crossing, Pokemon Dungeon, Layton vs Ace Attorney, EX Troopers, and a few other odds and ends, and it's not missing much that the DS had at this stage.
The "Vita has no games" thing is bunk, too, though. "Vita won't have a whole ton more games" might be accurate, "Vita had no games for months at time post-launch" is fairly true (and is so for most systems), but taking the library as a whole here and now, it's got a pretty robust library even without taking PSP and PS1 stuff into account.
And comparing how each company handles your digital purchases is lol. Sony wins that so hard, they're lapping Nintendo, and will forever.
I'm gonna agree with Shaka here. What the hell ARE you going to fill up the 3DS SD card with, when most of the games aren't on the E-Shop? It's barebones.

I've played and completed:
- Mario 3D Land
- Resident Evil
- Ghost Recon
- Zelda 3D
- Tales of the Abyss
- Kid Icarus
- Professor Layton
- Paper Mario
And Kingdom Hearts is easily the most visually impressive game on the platform. This is such a breath of fresh air after the horrible DS games.
I thought we were talking about graphics though. Yes, it's more impressive what KH can do with open environments, but that doesn't mean it's graphically superior by default. All that other stuff is just gameplay stuff.
You're right. You haven't played either game, what would you know about gameplay? lol.
You're right. You haven't played either game, what would you know about gameplay? lol.
I guess I was under the impression that demos are from the actual games themselves and not their own self-contained thing that have nothing to do with the actual game. :o
I wouldn't know, I don't really play demos, they're never indicative of the final product.
The best part about KH is that it actually comes with synopsis of every game thus far, along with a glossary of characters. They will drop a reference to a previous game, and the game will go "oh, need a reminder of what even happened in this game? here you go."
It's probably a great start for anyone who didn't care for the story but wants to play something on their 3DS / try Kingdom Hearts.
I stopped playing after 20 minutes because of the controls, and I'm a Metal Gear fan who enjoyed MGS4 and the other PSP games.
Seriously, you are in a minority that likes aiming with fucking FACE BUTTONS, bork. Most people who played Peace Walker HATED the scheme or merely tolerated it. They didn't think it was GOOD. And when the HD collection was announced, more than a few said they'd be buying it just for Peace Walker with tolerable controls.
No they didn't. Instead of taking advantage of the platforms controls they had it emulate console control scheme. That is asinine. They should have dropped the full 3d perspective crap and make it top down like MGS2, then there were be no NEED for a second stick and aiming could only be on left analog.
But no. Kojima has to be a fucking re re.

Which camera angle is more suitable for a portable system without a second stick?
Fixed camera angle
or
trying replicate console tps controls and environment on a system that doesn't have a second stick?
Kojima can suck my dick nipples.
Andrex, if you have any way of playing MGS3 on something other than the 3DS, please for the love of God, do it.
What is your aversion to fixed angles, Bork? For most games, it doesn't work, but for Metal Gear, which is essentially Pacman, it does. It depends on the locale though. For something like MGS1/2 where you're inside interiors the whole game, it's the best way to display all guards and allow you to scope the environment. For a game like MGS3 where you're in an open environment, as we saw from the original MGS3, it's certainly not perfect but in combination with a third person perspective - as seen in MGS3 Substance - it's money.
because I don't see it as backwards. it's like saying 2d fighters are backwards because 3d fighters are a thing.
Morrrrrrrrrtal Kombat!

If they wanted to do a true overhead style game (as in NO fixed angles), that would be something else.
So Crimson Shroud ended up being legitimately good? I remember impressions from JP players being somewhat lukewarm due to pacing and other tedious issues.

I completely forgot about the whole "DS backwards compatibility" thing, guess I'm back on the notion of buying a 3DS XL now. Do DS games look like pixel vomit on the XL?
Oh yeah. How did DQ9 end up turning out?
God, how I wish it was a $7-$10 eShop game. I wonder if it would've fared better.
Hmm better than last month. Might grab Tetris and see how it holds up to Tetris DS.

If you have Tetris DS, you don't need the GB Tetris.
I dunno how it's the "best one."
Tetris is fuckin' Tetris.
If you do Marathon on Tetris DS, it's exactly the same.
Bu-bu-but you can move the blocks after they touchdown! GAME RUINED!!!!!!!!!!!! Q_Q
short of hunting down one of Arika's cabinets.
I don't get it-- why does the game look like something that would have come out on the DS?
At least the battles are actually animated. Progress I guess!

Because the DS games looked like something that would have come out on the GBA, and the GBA ones looked like something that would have come out on the GBC?

Nintendo has revealed new information about Fire Emblem Awakening, launching exclusively for Nintendo 3DS on Feb. 4. The story of Fire Emblem Awakening begins in the kingdom of Ylisse and centers on Lord Chrom, the brother of Ylisse's Holy Ruler. Chrom leads the Shepherds, a band of soldiers who defend the borders of Ylisse from Plegian bandits. Players create a custom avatar and play as Chrom's right-hand man who is deeply ingrained in the main storyline. In addition to an immersive storyline, Fire Emblem Awakening keeps the adventure going with StreetPass and SpotPass functionality, as well as downloadable content available for purchase. Newly revealed information includes the following:
Downloadable Content: Maps will be available to purchase and download starting on launch day, and others will be distributed regularly. The first downloadable map will be available for free for a limited time only and will serve as an introduction to the steady weekly stream of additional maps. The additional maps will be offered at different price points. Players with a copy of Fire Emblem Awakening and a broadband Internet connection will be able to access the downloadable content through the Outrealm Gate located on the in-game world map, which will be unlocked after the player completes the fifth mission in the main story mode. The content will include additional information about new class types, skills, playable characters, maps with new storylines and special maps that let players earn more experience points, gold or other rare items.
SpotPass: In addition to content that can be purchased from within the game, Nintendo will also distribute new content via SpotPass for free. SpotPass content will be distributed in the launch time frame and will feature new maps with new storylines, characters and items.
StreetPass: Fire Emblem Awakening players can set up a StreetPass Team and exchange certain game data with other players. The StreetPass Team is made up of 10 units from an existing team in story mode. Players can also edit team names and create custom messages for other players to see. StreetPass characters will randomly appear on the world map, giving players the option to recruit the team leader with gold, buy any weapons or items the team is carrying or battle and win to recruit the leader for free. Like the random battles in the main story mode, the player will have full control of battles in StreetPass mode. Players will also earn "renown" based on battles won. A players' "renown" is visible to other players through StreetPass.
Fans can also try out Fire Emblem Awakening prior to launch by downloading the free demo available in the Nintendo eShop. The demo will be available on Jan. 17. When the game launches on Feb. 4, shoppers can purchase the packaged game as usual at retail locations nationwide. Or they can simply purchase and download the game on their own from the Nintendo eShop using a wireless broadband connection. Regardless of their purchasing method, the game sells for a suggested retail price of $39.99. For more information about Fire Emblem Awakening, visit http://fireemblem.nintendo.com/.
I generally don't care about games in genres I don't have fun playing, yes. But I don't really ignore them. Every once in a while I take a chance on a new game in such genres, usually only to be reminded why I don't like them. But every so often a game surprises me.
Never played a FE, will check out the demo.

Fire Emblem has been around since the NES, it's not some new series.
I just meant the writing is very anime-y.
Last I heard J-impressions were mixed but the trailer on the IGN link intrigues me. Fight gameplay looks like a decent beatemup.
Fair warning, this game is terrible.
Fair warning, this game is terrible.
Fair warning, this game is terrible.Aren't most of these crossover type games? I seem to recall you making mention of that in the past.
Pretty sure you dont plan on buying it anyway.
The demo lets you get a taste of the first bit of the game, including the obligatory tutorial dungeon, some of the first dungeon, and the first skyship area. Nice! Even the main dungeon's sidequests will be available, complete with all the skills, equipment and classes that would be available to you in this early part of the game.
In towns, QR code Guild Exchages and QR gifts are also available for use. Best of all, all progress in the demo transfers over to the full game. Now that's how you do a demo, folks
That's nice. I always wanted to try one of the EO games
You just reminded me of the DS Igavanias. I wonder if I still have them somewhere.
Dark Moon won't just support local play, but online and download functionality as well, for up to four players, with the download functionality removing some features. Whether your friends are near, far or don't even own a copy of the game, you'll be able to join them for some ghost busting fun. :hyper
Nintendo was only willing to provide so many details on what Dark Moon's multiplayer, titled "Scarescraper," will contain. Only the cooperative Hunter Mode was revealed, implying more to come. :hyper But Hunter Mode still packs plenty of potential, as players, taking on the roles of multi-colored Luigis, navigate floors and rooms of a haunted tower packed with ghosts of all varieties, including bosses. Coordination and communication are key here, as some of these enemies are quite fierce.
Hunter Mode contains a considerable amount of options and variables. Players can determine the number of floors they must conquer, including an option for their climb to never end. There are also three difficulty levels, the middle of which is certainly challenging enough. And, if that wasn't enough, players will be able to acquire upgrades for their vacuums, :hyper both through a cumulative effort to acquire treasure as well as randomly assigned bonuses at the end of a level - assuming players can earn them by quickly acquiring several red coins once all the ghosts have been defeated.
Key to all of this are two ideas - every floor and every boss comes with a time limit. If it expires, you all lose. Efficiently disposing of your enemies and properly exploring your environment is absolutely essential. But that leads to the next important notion - the floor layouts and enemy layouts (and types) are completely random. In essence, no experience will ever be quite the same. :hyper :hyper
Cooperating with your fellow players is essential in the game, and you'll be able to keep track of where they are through a lower-screen map. This isn't just useful for knowing which rooms to clear, but where to go if an ally falls in battle. A quick press of a button will revive a friend, with hearts being available throughout with a bit of exploration. And while cooperation - for upgrades, for treasure, for survival - is necessary, individuals will be judged based on their performance through statistics and more personalized awards. Fail to kill many ghosts, and the game will label you as 'Mostly Harmless' for all to see.
There's no doubt more to Dark Moon's "Scarescraper" modes. :hyper Considering how entertaining 'Hunter Mode' turned out to be :hyper, it'd hardly surprise us if Luigi's Mansion's multiplayer becomes just as noteworthy as its main 'Quest Mode.' :hyper :hyper :hyper
looks fun, but they've definitely missed an opportunity to include waluigi here, and that doesn't please me.
I don't really care that there's multiplayer, I would imagine Nintendo wants it shoehorned in all of their games at this point. As long as there is a good single player game included as well...
After the unexpected delight that was the multiplayer mayhem, we were dropped into the first big boss battle of the single-player campaign. Dark Moon, to refresh your memory, features five mansions to the original's one, and each has a big, bad ghostie to deal with at its apex. After the Dark Moon shatters in the valley, the ghosts go bananas, and it’s up to cowardly Luigi to piece the Dark Moon back together to restore peace.
While flitting about with multi-colored Luigis in the multiplayer was endearing, the younger, more handsome brother's character really shines in the single-player. Luigi’s scaredy-cat nature is a goof, but it's adorable and endearing all the same. Whether he was shivering in his boots or doing a little celebratory post battle jig, Luigi never failed to bring a smile to my face.
As for the actual boss fight, it tests your wits as much as it tests your reflexes, asking you to employ much of your arsenal in surprisingly creative ways. I haven't been impressed by this level of puzzle solving in a boss fight for some time. It felt simultaneously old-school and fresh; I'll leave you the specifics of the battles so you can work it out on your own.
Just last week I was hearing people lamenting over Dark Moon’s vanishing act. I'm here to tell you it's alive and well. Beyond well. It's really, really cool, spooktacular even. I think fans and new players alike will find it's been worth the wait.

Did that happen really recently? I know they were still chugging along on things as of Septemberish.
Andrex, not trying to be facetious, but you've said you don't like RPGs (outside of pokemon) before right? Not sure if a SMT game is for you
Strange Journey is on my list. My "will check out when it hits eShop" list.
KH is top of my JRPG list. But it's in a similar position as Strange Journey...
You'd like Persona 4, Andrex. If you ever get a Vita, you should buy it.

We all grew up with nintendo. We all played Mario kart, tennis, and golf.
back when those sports games atleast were made with an effort. Loved the rpg elements in both tennis and golf.
I'm 99% sure I still play more Nintendo games than you. Fantardism isn't defined so much by the games you do or don't play, but rather why.
Andy, I'm not sure you understood anything I said there at all.

I'm pretty sure Mario Tennis on 3DS is by the same developers.
Never owned anything but a nintendo device sounds pretty diehard to me
Leper Andrex.
EDIT: I have a feeling Andrex still gives Nintendo the time of day because he hasn't experienced their proper highs that allow one to see how far they've fallen.

Feel free to name a Nintendo game as good as LttP or SMG.
Star Tropics
punch-out is a genuine classic. it's such a great game that the wii version basically just painted a new skin on top of its mechanics and it was still awesome this gen. infinity blade and sakura samurai both basically copy its formula and embellish it a little. i don't care if you don't like boxing, it's not a fucking boxing sim. it's an awesome game and if you don't play it you are a bad person.
Star Tropics
I don't watch sports and can't stand sim sports games (golf being the exception with Mario/Hot Shots/Outlaw Golf), but arcade-style sports games are awesome. Can't hate on stuff like Double Dribble, Tecmo Bowl, Punch-Out!!, NBA Jam, Virtua Tennis, Mario Tennis, Beach Spikers, Outlaw Volleyball, Baseball Stars 1/2/2020, Windjammers, Neo Turf Masters, Dunk Dreams, etc.Never owned anything but a nintendo device sounds pretty diehard to me

Is it really that hard to just go and try games? I never touched an NES until I was 18 years old, and not only did I have a bunch of fun seeking out and playing classics from that system, but learned a lot about the history of games and game design.
probably wouldnt annoy me so much if you were honest about it instead of trying to act like something youre not.
I'd not mind a XL at this point but not for 200 fucking dollars. :-X
I've had a second job since April last year :PI'd not mind a XL at this point but not for 200 fucking dollars. :-X
It's $170 at BB this week. Time to get a second job.
I see sports teams as an extension of hometown pride, so that I can understand just slightly more than being a fan of big businesses.
hometown pride is also a similar thing. it's all very distinguished mentally-challenged, but also very hardwired into the human brain, so not much to be done about it.
One of the best things about the NES is that the controller has four buttons. You can pick up nearly any game for the system and immediately understand it. This forced designers to make games really intuitive on their face and many developers got a surprising amount of depth out of that simplicity. Case in point: Metal Storm.
Really I don't care that you're being so ignorant towards the origins of Nintendo, Andrex, but it does bother me that you'll happily fabricate any excuse to remain ignorant. Just download an NES emulator and have at it. (http://www.edgeemu.net) That, or demonstrate your Nintendo fandom with your wallet and use the Virtual Console. It's all sitting there waiting to be played, and most NES games can be finished in a day if you're persistent.
you fucking suck as a video game fan. seems like you spend more time arguing about tech companies and their business strategies than actually PLAYING GAMES. probably wouldnt annoy me so much if you were honest about it instead of trying to act like something youre not.
also i would really like to know about the pathology of people who get so invested in businesses that they debate them on the internet. i just cant wrap my mind around it.
That's what I've been doing. Until this gen I hadn't played SM64, SMB1, Lost Levels, Castlevania, a whole bunch others. But some things take time.
I probably care the most about the Virtual Console compared to anyone here. I know I have a lot of old games to get through.
Well you certainly can't dictate what you do or don't like if you haven't played it either ;)
Why? lol. Go play something else in the meantime. People these days...
no, we're just telling you to shut up and play more games if youre gonna spend all day talking about them
Why? lol. Go play something else in the meantime. People these days...
After the trying the demo and looking at the reviews, I hate everything else now.
Didn't DCharlie offer to give away his Super Famicom collection to Andrex and he turned it down?
Uh... do you have any other info besides "big warning" ?
Just spend $110 on Metroid Prime Trilogy and Xenoblade Chronicles, by the time Andrex is ready to play them I can sell them to him for $500
I read it's gonna be delayed till the 8th on GAF. Guess I'll play some Crimson Shroud and Denpa Men in the meantime...
Thanks, that is AdmiralViscen's avatar. I removed it.

The hell? Wasn't it imageshack or photobucket or some shit? I've been using the same URL for years
Oh, lmao, my old GMI account. That is a legit website.
What's the point of a massive backlog?
I am also moving towards an all digital future. Dealing with a bunch of carts with dead batteries in a language I can't read is not my idea of a good time.
Hey DC, I'll take your SFC collection! Is it an actual Super Famicom or that nasty gaijin Super Nintendo?
I really like that Nintendo is letting you exchange Club Nintendo coins for VC games. Their rewards are usually shit, so I grabbed GB Tetris and Punch Out today for my 3DS.
i would totally buy some VC games for my XL, but that whole non-unified Nintendo account thing pisses me off.

You can still transfer them to a new system.

how in god's name was that the first time you've beaten OcarinaI know a lot of people who played that game when it first came out, loved the shit out of it, yet never finished it. they all swear they'll finish it one day, but obviously that's not going to happen until they make babies to shove it onto.
WHY COULDN'T HAV GOTTEN THAT WHITE 3DSXL
You don't have to get bored with a game to not finish it. Most people probably just got distracted or interrupted from playing it and never went back. Especially for more casual players, kids and those who only game for like 20 minutes a day.
Meh, was kinda hoping for some announcements of translations (you know which games), especially after Nintendo said they wanted to bring more 3rd party Japanese games over to 3DS. I don't have much experience with the Mario and Luigi RPGs but I did not like Bowser's Inside Story at all. DKCR was a fun game on Wii but I'd prefer something original, and I'm not huge into the Mario sports games.

Yeah. But for those who don't want to pay to see how laughably bad the framerate is, this is a nice option.
Is this possibly one of those cases where the demo is ass and the retail release has a better frame rate? Sumo was always so good about their ports from everything I've played from them.

Gamefreak should be tarred and feathered into the dev hall of shame.Aren't they already there? I thought that's why they were stuck making Pokémon games for eternity.
Despite being created during the N64 era, it's taken 15 years to get a Pokemon game with N64 graphics.
Gamefreak should be tarred and feathered into the dev hall of shame.Aren't they already there? I thought that's why they were stuck making Pokémon games for eternity.
It's okay. The only way I could see calling it god-tier or putting it on the same level as drill dozer is if you haven't played the better games it's lifting from. Also, it's way the fuck overpriced. Pulseman is a better game, but Andy probably hasn't played that one, for reasons we can all guess.
I guess you have a point. I'd like to think there are people working at GameFreak with great concepts for games without the chance to execute them, but then stuff like HarmoKnight is evidence that Pokémon is all they really know how to do well these days.Gamefreak should be tarred and feathered into the dev hall of shame.Aren't they already there? I thought that's why they were stuck making Pokémon games for eternity.
Nah, they're stuck making Pokemon games for eternity because those are some of the best-selling games, period, and while their other games have a certain appeal, they've sold pretty poorly all around. I don't think they're terribly unhappy about the arrangement, either, given the relative job security.
Are you waiting for a way to play pirated games or are you just not interested in the games that are available? I'm currently playing Fire Emblem: Awakening and it's one of the best games I've played this year.
Wow, 30 minutes? ::)
Gateway doesnt work on the latest FW, though I suppose that doesnt matter for someone who doesnt plan to update.
Plus its not Region Free... enjoy your wait, Europe :heh
There's actually quite a bit of good stuff on the eShop, but its layout makes it pretty well impossible to find.
That stuff, Picross, Crimson Shroud, Pushmo, Crashmo, Gunman Clive, Molemania, the Wario Land games, Gradius, Defenders of Oasis, Shining Force Sword of Hayja, Sakura Samurai, Castlevania (NES), Mario Golf GBC, Super C, Ninja Gaiden, plus the whole DSiWare catalog, which has a lot of gems in the fields and fields of turds.
That's just quickly going off what I've bought, but there's other stuff too, I'm sure. Just can't be arsed with it because I have this iPhone right here, you see.
Are you waiting for a way to play pirated games or are you just not interested in the games that are available? I'm currently playing Fire Emblem: Awakening and it's one of the best games I've played this year.So.. who's your waifu? :-[
wait, Shantae is on there now?
unfffff
Play Shantae on GBA and you'll notice a small sign on the title screen reading, "GBA Enhanced!" Gamers have often wondered exactly how the game was "enhanced," for GBA, since it looks exactly the same when played on the older GBC hardware as well.
As it turns out, the so-called enhancement doesn't improve the game for play on GBA -- rather, it keeps the game from suffering the odd color degradation that comes standard as part of the GBA's backwards-compatibility.
"When GBA came out I was shocked at how poor the color quality was when it plays a GBC game -- I think I shut down for a week out of self pity," explains Bozon. "Jimmy came up with the idea of detecting the hardware and having alternate color values. It took some work, but you now have a game that is nearly indistinguishable from the GBC if played on the GBA."
A similar technique was incorporated into the Zelda Oracles titles, although to much less impressive effect: GBA users were treated to a pair of "advance" rings which offered negligible value. With Shantae, on the other hand, the hardware detection trick simply reinforces the care poured into the game.
"It's sad, because you'll never be able to appreciate how awful it looked," jokes Bozon. "In addition, if it's played on GBA we added a playable Tinkerbat character that can be found in a town later in the game. You have to talk to an animated version of Jimmy in order to get it. Now detecting hardware is more commonplace, but then it was super-fancy. We reused it in Wendy: Any Witch Way to open an extra world."
i'll stick to nes mm vc titles. sega 3d classics however :drool portable streets of rage :drool in 3D :drool
Unchained Blades could be good, but I'm very hesitant on dropping $30 on an eShop title knowing the drawbacks.
It's also on PSP, which uses a real account system.

Well, Mega Man V GB was kind of cool and was the only completely original entry, but the GB games haven't aged well. All over the Sega stuff though.
We'll probably get it...in 2015.
Never thought I'd see this in English- Xseed is going to be releasing Senran Kagura Burst for 3DS in the fall. E-Shop only release...which is not a surprise. :lol
I live in a city and I can't remember the last time I got a streetpass.
Oh yeah, that's because I don't carry my 3DS around like a NERRRRRRRRRRRRRRD!
I got over 200 at PAX. :lol
I've only streetpassed once out and about.
admittedly i'm not really every *out and about*
so I typically only get people from work.
the same 3 people every day.
i do pass by a mcdonalds every day but thats in my car and it's only for a second. i dunno if it's close enough or long enough and i dont even think many people in buffalo have a 3ds.
but i'm going to PAX next year so i'll def get tons of fucking streetpasses
I got one of these last week, and I'm loving it, although I only have SMT 4 so far. Really glad I paid an extra $30 or so for the bigger screen.
Other must-have 3DS games?
Did they ever fix the save game bug for it? You might want to get the Vita version instead.
The glitch in the PEC room has been address in the eShop version.
Just picked up an XL. I have completely been out of the handheld loop since I sold my Vita last year and don't even know whats on the 3DS beyond a few games.....any of yo have some quick rpg recommendations for me? Going to pick up Fire Emblem but other than that I dunno.

In a surprising twist announced this morning during a special Nintendo Direct presentation, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y players do not receive Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie from Professor Sycamore but are in fact given the choice of a classic partner Pokémon - Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle - from the very first Pokémon games, Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue! Adding to the excitement, once a player has evolved this Pokémon into Venusaur, Charizard, or Blastoise and obtained its unique Mega Stone, the Pokémon will be able to Mega Evolve while in battle. Mega Venusaur, Mega Charizard, and Mega Blastoise will possess overwhelming powers never before seen in a Pokémon game. Players can choose fan favorite Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle when Pokémon X and Pokémon Y launch worldwide October 12, 2013, for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.
More secrets about Mega Evolution were also revealed today. It was previously announced that certain Pokémon needed to hold a unique Mega Stone in order to Mega Evolve, but now it's known that there is a second requirement players must fulfill for Mega Evolution to occur. Trainers must also obtain a bracelet called the Mega Ring that holds a mysterious stone called a Key Stone. The Trainer's Key Stone resonates with the Mega Stone held by his or her Pokémon, and together they trigger the Evolution that is normally impossible—Mega Evolution.
Director from GAME FREAK inc., Mr. Junichi Masuda, also announced Pokémon Bank - a new Nintendo 3DS application and service that allows Pokémon X and Pokémon Y players to conveniently store up to 3,000 of their beloved Pokémon on the Internet. Pokémon Bank gives players the flexibility to store and deposit 100 Boxes worth of Pokémon. This is in addition to the Boxes found within Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, just like in previous Pokémon titles.
Additional features of Pokémon Bank include the ability to deposit and withdraw Pokémon from multiple copies of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. Once a Pokémon X or Pokémon Y Game Card is inserted into a Nintendo 3DS system or the downloadable version of the game is opened, the Pokémon Bank software can be turned on for use. Players can then transfer Pokémon from multiple copies of the game via Pokémon Bank to one copy of Pokémon X or Pokémon Y.
Pokémon Bank software is activated upon payment of an annual service fee. This charge will support maintenance of the online server that allows players to store up to 3,000 Pokémon conveniently, and will provide the application's support for future Pokémon titles.
Players who activate Pokémon Bank, will be able to use its linked application, Poké Transporter, which makes transferring many Pokémon caught in other Pokémon games easy. What used to be a lengthy process to transfer Pokémon from a previous Pokémon game to the latest titles is now a breeze with Poké Transporter - just insert Pokémon Black, Pokémon White, Pokémon Black 2, or Pokémon White 2 into your Nintendo 3DS system and use Poké Transporter to transfer Pokémon from those games into Pokémon Bank.
Pokémon Bank will be available in North America on Nintendo eShop. More details about this software, including a free trial period, will be added to Pokemon.com in the near future.
Also announced in this morning's Nintendo Direct presentation were details for the North American release of two special Nintendo 3DS XL hardware designs featuring imagery from Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. These systems come in Red or Blue and feature brand new Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal. The systems will launch on September 27 at a suggested retail price of $199.99 each.

Nintendo has learned that some consumers, including minors, have been exchanging their friend codes on Internet bulletin boards and then using Swapnote (known as Nintendo Letter Box in other regions) to exchange offensive material. Nintendo has been investigating ways of preventing this and determined it is best to stop the SpotPass feature of Swapnote because it allows direct exchange of photos and was actively misused.

a bit tacky and includes a digital copy of Link Between Worlds, but I'd buy this if it comes to the states.

I had my doubts about this reviewing too high because of all the changes. It's almost being rated almost TOO high.
And surprise it does. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is the best puzzle game that Nintendo has ever released. Each dungeon is a self-contained conundrum, with its own rules and dangers. In one, darkness reveals what light won’t, turning the use of torches into a strategic decision. Another is a fiery deathtrap navigable only with an ice wand to turn its columns of lava into stone. Yet another is a giant prison, full of switches and cells and hollow walls. Some are more familiar than others - there’s a dungeon with levers to change the water level, and a sand dungeon deep in the desert - but even those feel fresh, and come with new approaches. For all Between Worlds’ aesthetic familiarity, the puzzle design is as inventive and novel here as it has ever been.
And the game visually looked like ass when it was revealed and looks like ass to this day.Yeah, that's what bothers me too. It's ugly.
The graphics are a lot better than in screen shots, with 3D on. It also runs at a great frame rate
Slowly realizing that the 3DS lineup isn't as good as others led me to believe, because I'm not much into RPG/strategy games these days.

Pretty much. It's usually a dust magnet for me, although with Zelda, Ace Attorney, and Senran Kagura, I've been playing it quite a bit.
Gotta try that Sega Space Harrier 3D port, too.
yeah im gonna have to disagree and say that looks great. looks just like the original but much much cleaner
Apparently it fits pretty good in your hands. The only thing you miss is the 3D, which is probably not a dealbreaker for Bravely Default. The screens are also regular 3DS size - so you miss the big fat goodness of XL.

register a 3ds/2ds/3ds xl + one of the six games and you get a pokemon 3ds download code. only counts if the two are registered in march.

Still dunno if I'll pick it up but now it's a possibility at least.
Can't be worse than Yoshi Touch & Go.
