Clone Wars (2003): 2D animated cartoon by Genndy Tartakovsky (PPG, Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack, Sym-Bionic Titan), aired on Cartoon Network.
The Clone Wars (2008): CG cartoon with designs and general plot lifted from the earlier Genndy toon. Currently on its sixth season, I think CN had the first five but the new one's on Disney.
The Clone Wars (2008): CG movie that had a gay Jabba the Hut.

"extended universe" is just commissioned fan-fic. It never mattered. But yea, if you're gonna prune the Star Wars canon you should start by nixing the shit that had jar jar in it.

It was always a tiered canon where anything Lucas chose to automatically superseded anything else.

Trek's books and comics and games were never canon until the novel relaunches and the reboots and even then it was iffy. The Abrahmsverse comics and game are technically supposed to be canon.

People take canon too seriously.  I've read plenty of Star War's comics and books without giving a fuck where they fit in with other stuff. As long as the story was good it did'nt matter. All I ask is that stories do something good with whatever background or setting they take.

I mean I'm the same with superhero comic books. I could'nt care less about continuity. If a writers run on a title is good and makes a complete story, then I'm happy. I couldn't care less if all that happen is retconed. I enjoyed the story that writer made in that run. It's pretty easy today to enjoy comics like that where it seems like writer's runs do in fact work stand alone so they can be sold in trades.

So I really don't care that Star Wars EU stuff is'nt canon. I never thought or cared that it was. I just saw it as other stories told with this universe and characters.

A lot of the good Star Wars stuff was so far apart chronologically you only really needed to know the basics.

The real hurt is on Thrawn and some other stuff set in the time period where they obviously want to set the new movies.

I have a hard time caring about Star Wars canon after GL treated fans with such disdain in Episodes I~III. Zahn's Thrawn trilogy is pretty badass, and I've been meaning to re-read them. The prequels were just hyperfinanced fan films. These JJ Abrams' movies will probably be similar to his nuTrek stuff, so I'll watch it but not get invested in it.

Again, they haven't said that nothing from the EU will make it in, just that they're not going to be strictly beholden to EU so that the writers can have more flexibility and they can drop in some plot/characters/twists that haven't already been covered in detail.

The one thing I don't understand about canon disputes is that all that shit still exists regardless of it being shitcanned by the upcoming films. You still read it, you still have the books, it's not like they have completely been wiped from earth. It's like when the NCAA shitcanned Michigan 's basketball program and retroactively rescinded the seasons during which they engaged in illegal activity. The banners may be gone but that shit still happened. The Fab Five really existed. Those memories can't be taken away so I don't care what the NCAA says.

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

I didn't know that Lawrence Kasdan and John Williams were coming back, so some optimism.

Probably alone on this but I hope the original cast is pushed to the side and this isn't a Superman Returns-style nostalgia wank fan film thing for Abrams.  The new cast is great and should be the center of the film.  and Max von Sydow likely playing an evil dude

If your hope is to see a Star Wars movie that's better than the Prequel Trilogy, then it's unlikely you'll come away disappointed.

it's funny because star wars is a kurosawa ode originally, and jedi are clearly samurai in their methodological sword strikes, never mind 'the force' which is essentially chi and hearkens similarities to asian mysticism, so the lack of asians is just puzzling.

Andy Serkis is a good, uh, human actor.  But yeah, people tend to hire him to be some CG beast.

and it'd be cool if Boyega becomes the main character.  Having the main character outside the bloodline is better than making every Skywalker a prodigy.  He could still be Luke's son but there aren't any black women in Star Wars, so who knows.
