Just watched All-Star Superman, it sucked, they skipped like half the story lines including the one about his father's dead and most importantly they didn't show the monkey dressed as Superman! I don't know why they keep this stupid policy of making this movies only 1 hour 20 minustes long smh.

I think it has to do with the maximum length they can show during kids' tv programming slots or someother smh like that. I have the Blu-Ray ordered cause there is a Morrison commentary track that I'm curious about. But I don't have a whole lot of hope for the movie itself.

COGAN'S TRADE, new andrew dominik project which has seemingly absorbed all news and development on the intriguing BLONDE, seems a little too heavy with the star power for my taste but i'll admit to being manipulated by the lineup's recent addition of vincent curatola (johnny sack) now pairing with gandolfini in a feature(!)

I watched The Sorcerers Apprentice last night. HOLY FUCK it was BAAAAAAAAAAAD. Nick Cage was fine but the other lead guy was possible the worst, most annoying actor I have ever seen. I just cannot fathom how he was cast in a big budget film. Sure the character was supposed to be geeky but this fucker was worse than most of the nerbos I play against at Magic the Gathering tournaments. And he got the babe at the end. Motherfucker! Still the special effects and action were actually pretty decent.

Yeah, I agree. But every box ticked will pretty much guarantee it gets some kind of attention from various fangroups.

I actually met some dudes who worked on CG for it recently - it was outsourced to like a dozen little studios as you might expect. They seemed to think it was pretty groundbreaking from a technical perspective. I'm still very much meh on it though.

Elite Squad 2

I had seen the first one, and it was good. I mean i didn't love it as i did with City of God, but it was an action packed movie, that was really well shot. The sequel though, man i loved it...as an action movie this is better than the latest crap coming from hollywood, and it has characters that really make you wanna watch the movie, specially the main character Nascimento.

I recommend it!

Faster

It was fun when Rock was on camera, not so fun when he wasn't, the whole hired assassin storyline is corny and shitty. There's a dramatic moment in the movie that reminded me of all the charisma and on screen presence that Rock can have without saying much.

Not terrible, don't recommend it unless you have literally nothing better to do.

I saw the Devil

I love korean movies....watched it after seeing Man from Nowhere, which had awesome action sequences and the most amazing knife fight ever shot. It was definitely a change of tone, but i loved it. Movie is brutal, uncompromising, the characters are surreal and the pacing and just tension keeps you going. Not my favorite, i liked Chaser better and others like Sympathy etc, but this is a good one.

I recommend this one.

Disney needs to cut this shit out with, "We had a ride/short story that was cool 50 years ago.  Let's make it into a full-length feature film!  And leave room for sequels!"  Been there, watched Pirates, got bored after the first three...

The movie was geared towards kids and it did fantastically with them.

Budget = $150,000,000

Domestic gross = $63,000,000

So, not really.

studios only get back about half of any film's domestic gross, and 30-50% of the international numbers.

of course there's other revenue streams to take into account (pay per view, DVD/Blu-Ray/TV rights), but most often the value of those is predicated on how well the given film does theatrically.  Also, the production budget doesn't take into account the costs associated with putting out the film (a single film print costs about two grand, advertising costs can be huge as well).

so to sum things up.  Yes, The Sorcerer's Apprentice lost money, lots of it.  If Disney gets lucky they'll break even on it someday.

3x is the rule of thumb I've heard bandied around. Meaning, basically, that Sorcerer's Apprentice would need to make three times it's budget to break even [so, about $450,000,000 worldwide]. There other things to consider, of course, such as the amount of advertising a film gets, DVD/Bluray sales on the back end, toys and other tie-ins, and the ratio of domestic-to-international gross [high domestic and low international is generally better than low domestic and high international].

There's also expectations and I really think that Disney thought it was going to make pretty good bank, not necessarily PotC numbers but something more along the lines of the two National Treasure movies [$347 million worldwide and $457 million worldwide, respectively]. The Sorcerer's Apprentice's domestic total was ONE-THIRD of National Treasure's domestic total, on top of costing 50% more to make.

I watched the recent Karate Kid remake and rather enjoyed it. It tries to be emotionally touching a bit too much for my taste, but the teacher/student relationship works rather well thanks to a suddenly somber Jackie Chan.

The movie made me think about the global economics hiding in the background in the first film by the remakes choice of locations. I think the remake really tries to make people rethink the earlier film as a commentary on Japanese imports by making the remake about American goods being exporting and made in China, and as well as mass production in China.

I watched S.W.A.T Firefight last night, I dl'ed it due to being featured in the Pirate Bay top 100. I've been using that list a bit recently as I'm often at a loss as to what to watch.

Anyway, holy fuck what a movie.  :lol Can't really describe it... completely slapdash, poor acting, bizarre dialogue choices that often make no sense, Robert Patrick... was almost so bad it was good in certain parts... but I dunno. It was no Rollerball. I would recommend this film to Great Rumbler and other fans of C grade films.

Hopped on Netflix and saw that it recommended Irreversible, which was cool because a) I had no idea that was availble to stream and b) I've read so much about it over the years that I've always been curious to see if it was as disturbing as people said it was.  I literally sat there a good 10 minutes after it was over kind of in shock.  That fucking rape scene was too much.  Hard to say that I "enjoyed" the film but it's probably the best thing I've seen in a good long while.

true :(  Like I said, I just need to stop reading their movies you've seen recently thread.  it's basically a circle jerk over obscure movies (no matter how mediocre) and a hate fest for anything remotely popular.

I feel like I follow that thread and I haven't even heard of that fucking movie.
