Anyone going to see Transformers 4?  It's a little under 3 hours long and apparently the third best in the series!

Edit:  turns out it's the fourth best Transformers movie.

I've always wanted to see Superman fights with obnoxious destruction and leveling of cities.  Man of Steel satisfied that.  I really don't care about anything else.

Superman didn't need the grimdark reboot treatment, and that they're using this universe for the Justice League movie (sorry, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) fills me with the opposite of hope. Dread? Loathing? Nihilism? Some combo of all of those.

Despair.

just don't pull a Hellboy 2 and end as a forever unresolved middle part of an intended trilogy.

but yeah, this is pretty great news.  Hell, I figured GDT wouldn't get to play in the megabudget toy kit again for much later then this.

Just watched Brian Yuzna's Society from 1989 earlier today. I had heard of it before, but I wasn't expecting something this fun. I'll never forget the 'shunting' scene. Has a really nice build to the finish, too.

Just watched Bobcat Goldthwait's Willow Creek the search for Bigfoot.  Was pretty good, not great.  Is fun and has good tension and a really good 19 minute single take scene.  Was neat seeing what an effective horror film you can make for a couple of bucks and a week of shooting.

I kinda enjoyed it. I thought the beginning dragged but at least it wasn't too long. I'll also knock off a few points for being the most shameless Blair Witch copy ever, but I was entertained.

New York Asian Film Festival is in full swing and I am already super happy with it.  I really wish that more people on this board could see Naked Ambition 3D, an absolutely ridiculous sex comedy from Hong Kong.  It's like Harold and Kumar's Christmas movie where the filmmakers just go for absolute broke and pretty much literally throw everything they can at you.  As this is a sex comedy, that means boobs.  Lots and lots and lots and lots of boob.  The plot is secondary, and doesn't really make a lot of sense and there are no stakes and is normally the sort of thing I'd hate, but as everything is just a joke delivery mechanism, none of that really matters for this movie.  If you can pirate it, it will still probably be funny (as there are extended parodies of typical porn scenarios I'm sure everyone on this board has seen), but it will lack the added dimension (no pun intended) and depth with the 3D.

It's  probably the most fun i have had at the movies this year.

side note, Urban Action Showcase Expo 2014 will be doing a screening of The Last Dragon in November.  Trying to figure out how to buy tickets to that w/o having to spend $80 to attend the expo.  If I find a way, I'll let people know (if there's any interest)

Nope. Wrong. Thanks for playing.

The movie is the antithesis of the book, and unlike other cases where it is clearly acting intentionally as a counteragent to the book's philosophy, WWZ is just Hollywood drivel which goes out of its way to put every possible action on the leading man to justify his paycheck.

It's a conceit you have to accept since it's a film. Pitt sells the character and the scenarios he's put through are all pretty interesting. The final stretch in the WHO Facility was super well done and tense.

The White Storm is Benny Chan's homage to John Woo's Heroic Bloodshed movies of the early 80s, but to be honest they're more of a Wong Jing esque knock off.  It's crazy over the top and at two hours and twenty minutes you get the original film and a horrible sequel in one sitting!  No need to wait!  I honestly can't tell if I liked it or hated it.  The first half is straight bananannas and the second half is dull and features horrible character work (so at least it's genre authentic!) and it's definitely filtered through a post Infernal Affairs HK filmscape and while you can guess what happens in the opening and in the end, you'll be hard pressed to know what's around the corner between the two.

This reads positive, but I dunno.  Good Bad movie.  Watch it on Netflix when i inevitably ends up there.

Watched three movies in relative recent history.

The Lego Movie.

Was okay. Solid average movie. Not great. Not bad. Not much to really say about it.

Neighbors.

Your opinion on this is probably relative to how funny you find Seth Rogen. I'm not real big on him so that coloured my opinion of the film but the other people I watched it with really seemed to enjoy it and find it funny.

Under the Skin.

Really liked this one. I knew nothing coming in to it watching it and that is probably the best way to come in to it. Felt like a slow symbol heavy 70's film and that's good in my book.

so I pulled out another VHS movie that caught my eye, Fellini Satyricon. this movie excels at indulging my demonic interests. it starts with the main character upset that his friend stole his concubine boyslave and just gets better and better. I think this is the first Fellini movie I've seen and I'm totally blown away. one of the few movies in recent history where I'm simply whisked away into its setting and gripped until the very end. the soundtrack is hauntingly beautiful and it often accompanies vast, breathtaking scenery. one scene in particular involves the protagonist, Encolpio, engaged in a gladiatorial fight with a minotaur in a labyrinth and its deliberate pace allows this palpable tension to build. I definitely recommend a look at this Italian classic.

Saw a few movies tonight at the drive in and even with the booze Transformers Age of Extinction couldn't entertain me. But Godzilla on the other hand was a total surprise and a pleasant experience to watch.

Now I need to convince the local drive in to put 22 jump street and Tammy together so I can get my comedy fill.

Batman Begins was on HBO so I decided to watch it for the millionth time. Yeah yeah I know "hurr durr Nolan" but I can't help but love this movie for what it is and imo, it's the best in the Nolanverse and top 3 comic book movies ever. Probably the only flick in the Nolanverse I'd consider a comic book movie due to TDK and TDKR taking the character and running in their own direction.

First act is fucking sublime. BatBale in Tibet w/ the League of Shadows, picking up where he left off by shitting on shareholders in Wayne Enterprises once he gets back to Gotham, meeting LuciusFreeman and exploring the Batcave while gathering all his gadgets from Applied Sciences is all  :lawd. Flashbacks with young adult Bruce with Rachel were kinda meh by comparison but I still enjoy the dialogue as it explores those characters (his meeting with Falcone is also dope).

Second and third acts are where it tapers off, the plot has to set its pins up for them all to get knocked down, there's still some retardery that's indicative of how stupid some parts of the sequels would be, but whatever. Ras' al Neeson's "It's me Austin!" at Wayne Manor was great, and Alfred calling back Thomas Wayne hits all the right emotional notes and Rachel calling Bruce out for his mask shenanigans was legit. Also, I fucking love that final scene on the rooftop of the GCPD with Commissioner Oldman. Not just for the Joker reveal, but that whole back and forth about escalation. Not only does that fit in with Bruce's character, it's also a great commentary on crime and the justice system as a whole.

Dope movie. Would watch again in 5 months.

The Nolan Batman movies bundle was $15 on iTunes so I snagged it last week, and so I've also rewatched Batman Begins. I loved this in theaters, didn't like it so much the 2nd and 3rd time, but it was love ALL OVER AGAIN this 4th viewing.

Someone else posited that Ra's Al Ghul is the Liam Neeson we should have seen as Qui Gon Jinn; a mysterious, calm, devoted, emotionless master who is never entirely clear about his motives. Lovely. His deception works well, his use of manipulation to create a being, rather than teach him... and in the end the pupil going wayward: these are all things which would have been great in the Star Wars Prequels if GL could have been convinced to let someone else hold the reins.

Unlike many here, I like the sequels well enough, but I agree that Bats is taken off in a different direction, not one that I enjoy as much as the entirely broken, compulsive, relentless comic book character. And the voice does get ridiculously stupid by the third movie. Maybe that's why the made Bane's voice even more silly, so no-one would notice?

Anyway, I agree, BB is the bee's knees.

I find people off the Internet don't tend to "love" any movies.

Couldn't disagree more. There is almost always a popular internet/forum opinion X>Y>Z when it comes to nerd movie franchises, videogame franchises, etc, etc.
