Kong: Skulls Island or whatever was fun. I went in blind expecting yet another reboot of King Kong but the Vietnam era reboot kept things fresh. There were a lot of supporting characters getting build-ups but they would get dispatched suddenly and nobody missed them. I loved the imagery they had going on, excellent use of angles and colors, it was very impressive. The design of the monsters were pretty lame, they looked like something designed in Spore. I LOVED the giant buffaloes even if it seemed that their scale would change sometimes. Anyhow, the movie was just the right length of time
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable - Chapter 1 So I got dragged to this by two friends, we have the Fantasia Festival going on right now in Montreal, and it's all horror/scifi/action flicks from around the world for 3 weeks. My friends had an extra ticket and asked me if I wanted to join them, so I figured
WHY NOT. The theater was a huge hall with like 500+ people who were super weebs and super hyped about the movie. I saw some girl in a pink kimono outfit with an umbrella in the lineup.
It was a Takashi Miike flick, so it's either brilliant or TOTAL GARBAGE.
It was total garbage. There was some funny as fuck stuff in the movie such as how everybody keeps making fun of Jojo's hairdo, and the nerd guy's relationship with his friend at school, it's the kind of humor you find in Miike's flick, but the rest of the movie was terrible. Just when you think the movie is over (FINALLY), there's a sudden 20 minutes curve that leads nowhere at all and then there's the real ending. The whole thing with the "Stands" was kinda interesting but their powers were inconsistent. The final guy's secret power is super fucking random and a huge letdown (

he can summon armies of small toy soldiers that fire real bullets and bombs? What the fuck...
).
The acting was very Japanese, the cgi effects were low budget but You just accept it, it's a Japanese production. People were super hyped but politely applauded at the end, so I assume the hardcore fans didn't like it much.
I'll spoil the weird curve at the end for those who wants to read it:

So that Jojo dude defeats the two brothers, and one of them goes up a set of stairs. Jojo and the nerd goes upstairs and get attacked by the japanese version of the Swamp Thing (?!). Jojo punches him in the jaw and the creature goes down and starts crying. One of the brother appears and reveals that the creature is their FATHER. But he wasn't human anymore because he didn't care about them, he only cared about work. so with time, he turned in a low budget of the Swamp Thing. The bros tried to kill him many times but he keeps regenerating, so they keep him tied up in the cellar and were trying to find another Stand user that was powerful enough to zap him out of existence. So they go on and on about this for what felt like 30 minutes, with tons of pseudo animu japanese philosophy sprinkled in. The mutant father keeps fucking around a box while they do this, so jojo uses his stand's power to regenerate the box, only to discover that the creature was trying to stitch back up a family picture of him, his wife and the two bros when they were kids. Cue cheesy sappy music and bla bla bla, and the main bro kills himself over it. The end. The next scene is Jojo and his time travelling Uncle from the future talking together on a beach
You guys have no idea how it was to experience that 30 minutes curve. I just wanted to die. I was also pissed because they showed the trailer for another Miike movie that was going to be shown later this week, and I was

the entire time because it looked far more interesting than the tripe I was watching.
The other movie is called "Blades of the Immortal"
