This thread always seems to get its jimmies rustled over Marvel movies. Which is weird to me. It's like arguing over He-Man or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the most part. I'm not a huge fan of the effect Marvel movies have had on the cinema, but a thread where people just talk about why they liked or didn't like a movie doesn't seem to be the place to fight that battle tooth and nail.
I find them fun to watch. They're like the McDonalds of movies. You know what you get.

Still Chris Nolan made the best Super Hero movie of all time with the Dark Knight. Out of the latest Marvel releases I would rate Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor Ragnarok the highest.
Thor was such a fun ride because it didn't take itself too seriously. Still it would be nice if these actors would also star in movies that they actually act in. RDJ should really consider starring in a movie that requires him to act again and not just walk around with product placements. I think that a few new movies with him in it are in pre-production but it has been like 3 or 4 years since he had any role outside of Marvel movies.

I have a long post in me about how I feel about Marvel movies that I won't bother to subject people to because I know no one would give a shit. The movies are popular currently and nothing is going to change that so it is what it is. So there is kinda no reason to get heated on either side. Although I understand when a dipshit who tends to say silly things becomes a lightning rod. I'm probably closer in regard to how Assimilate or Optimus feel about these movies. (yuck. What a side to be on)

I just wish they were more polite about it. It's movies. People are going to like shit I don't like. It's not a big deal in comparison to other things. I don't understand why its gets so personal. A heated Trump thread makes sense to me. A heated movie opinion thread makes no sense.

I'm not defending Marvel or the movies, I am pointing out how fucking distinguished mentally-challenged Optimus is to think an actress like Glenn Close is taking a role in a Marvel movie because she can't get out of indie movie hell and needs the exposure :lol

That's not what I said at all but honestly I don't care that much to continue this distinguished mentally-challenged discussion. I already tried to end it and you keep coming back for more. Fine whatever, actors CAN'T WAIT to perform these masterpiece characters. Are you happy?

The only ones who got triggered was Stro and the beak guy (I think I finally understand the term now after visiting a certain thread lol). It was usual discussion about Marvel movies when they suddenly exploded because I said that good actors participate in this trash for money, a shocking and totally unbelievable statement. Even my stubborn ass didn't care enough about that argument so you've got to be surprised at how invested they were in that subject whether you agree with me or not.

The new Marvel movie is an incredible display of juggling. That middle sequence (where the heroes split up to retrieve different stones) was really reminiscent of the original Star Wars for me. Had that same kind of spirit of adventure and quick pacing.

The only critique I had that they didn't really identify the heroes when they appeared. Every time there was a new one, you'd hear a bunch of whispering around me of people trying to figure out who is who.

Also, I really appreciate the choices they made at the ending. They didn't belabor it with pounding music coaxing you to cry, they didn't do the long slow-mo scenes of people wailing as their friends disappear (as the music swells in the background). It just kind of happens and they are left in shock.  I appreciate more and more when filmmakers hold back from doing the typical shit.

Game Night was cookie cutter action comedy about normal people getting involved in a fucked up situation. It was decent, what it really needed imo was better comedic actors. It had a couple of pretty funny scenes though so it wasn't a waste of time.

But ignoring even that, the main theme of Valhalla is that it's technology that is so advanced that looks like magic and fantasy so it kind of makes sense, what doesn't make sense is showing a super advanced city from afar, then a third world looking market, then a super advanced lab then a distinguished mentally-challenged ritual fight to the death with bad CGI crowd cheering. I mean I get the whole stereotype thing Marvel is doing but what a clusterfuck that was.

Thinking advanced technology necessitates a capitalist mass consumer culture. :ufup

But f'real, the idea that a small, wealthy country that's also a closed economy and strongly protective of its cultural heritage would still value traditional artisanship for clothing/food/decor is one of the less crazy leaps the Marvel movies ask of viewers. Hell, look at how similar stuff is marketed to well-off yuppies now.

They had fucking huts where they were breeding the rhinos and it's not like Wakanda was sheltered from the outside world, they seemed to have full knowledge of American culture so to think that they'd continue with the primitive traditions and decor sounds too far-fetched. But like you said, it's a fucking Marvel movie so my standards should be extremely low plus overthinking this crap isn't healthy, it's like trying to interpret the art of a 5 year old.

Watched The Big Sick. That was enjoyable. I didn't know anything about it and thought it was just a standard rom com, so the turn halfway kinda took me by surprise. I never found the main guy particularly charming or funny (I guess that was the point, that he was acting unfunny), but it was a nice movie. Didn't love it, but liked it.

Yeah, I felt the same way as you about the Big Sick. Picked it up from Redbox because we wanted to watch a movie, and there really wasn't anything else that looked remotely interesting. Thought it would be a comedy due to Kumail Nanjiani (who I do like on Silicon Valley) but the sharp turn toward the middle made things a bit more interesting. I liked Ray Romano's character the best, but Kumail didn't really have very much in the way of charisma. It was enjoyable but a bit too long for what it was (over 2 hours!).

I understand when they're buying trash for cheap but weren't both of these movies Netflix productions by some pretty good directors? It seems they're cursed with movies even when they have the best intentions. Unless it's their interference that fucks these movies up?
