Rewatched Silence of the Lambs which I hadn't seen in most likely 20 years.

I never quite liked this movie as much as everybody else did but I did like it. Nothing has changed in that regard.

As a younger person I was fascinated by hannibal and bored by Clarice. That has flipped as an older person. Hannibal is basically the joker and a comic book villain so he's less interesting to me as an adult. Clarice is the actual human character with foibles and character aspects by comparison.

Pacing is nice and slow which I like.

Someday I guess I should get around to trying out that Hannibal TV show which a lot of people seemed to like.

Jesus Christ. I’m watching Cold Mountain and Rene Zellweger is completely outclassed by everyone. She’s fucking terrible. How in the fuck did she get cast in this alongside so many other big names? Her accent is terrible and overacts throughout all of it.

How are you going to ask TVC if he watched it, but not me, the person who suggested he watch it with? Frick this place.

One, I didn't see your post. And two, your birth was a curse on the whole of humanity.

Okay, so the kills in the movie are lame. There's only three and none of them were cool. Dan merging with the motorcycle was cool, but that was just a dream, and the actually kill is just "he falls asleep and dies in a car crash". Freddy force-feeding the bitchy girl just makes her face swell up like Mr. Creosote, then she falls over dead. The comic book nerd gets turned into a paper drawing and then bloodlessly cut up.

The story was not great, but it I guess it did what it needed to for a later ANOES sequel. I kind of liked Freddy taking over the dreams of Alice's fetus and using them to enter the real world. All the stuff with Amanda and Jacob though just felt like they had an idea but they didn't really know what to do with it. Amanda's soul is trapped in purgatory because she committed suicide, but then they just needed to touch her to release her from purgatory? I'm pretty sure I didn't read that in my Christian Mythology book. And unless I missed something, how did Yvonne know exactly where to find her body? Alice was just like "Find Amanda!" and then Yvonne goes to the asylum and immediately starts smashing down a wall with a crowbar. The Jacob stuff was even less coherent. Freddy was trying to corrupt Jacob by putting the murdered souls into him, but then at the end Alice is just like "Hey, stop listening to Freddy" and then Jacob is like "Okay" and then he shoots out all the murdered souls back at Freddy, which causes him to be sucked back into Amanda's womb somehow? Who knows.

The production design and special effects, tho? *chef's kiss* :delicious

This is the actual, legit reason that I enjoy watching 80's horror movies (especially sci-fi/fantasy horror) so much. I love the practical effects. The fake gore, the prosthetics, the models, the matte paintings. That's my jam, and this movie delivered. The design of the asylum was great. The shower scene where Alice gets sucked into the asylum was great. The Freddy Baby, even though it was silly, was actually pretty decent. Dan merging with the motorcycle, as previously mentioned, was great. The scene where Alice sees Dan get sucked into Freddy's Hell Womb was great. The Silent Hill baby carriage was great.

Oh yeah, and all the characters were annoying. Overall Score: ANOES5 out of 5

70 fucking directors lmao.

Like, I love Scarjo, and I love the character, but I remain unconvinced she can carry her own movie. Who knows though, a BW movie also heavily featuring Fury and Hawkeye with flashbacks to the Russian past (already hinted at in Age of Ultron)? Maybe that could work. I do wonder if they're blowing their Fury load on Captain Marvel first though, but on the other hand that'll be CG de-aged Fury and not current Fury. :thinking

If they're willing to dial down the scale like they did with Spider-Man, there's potential to do a fun movie with some spycraft and close-quarters action.

I should probably just watch Haywire again, though.

For one, Wonder Woman made $800 million. And Harley probably is the only other DC star that could almost guarantee that currently. :lol

So there's obviously a market for the female lead superhero film in the near term. WW84 will probably be talked about as a $1 billion level film, when they were going to be overjoyed with the first hitting $500 million.

Feige had said there were Black Widow scripts before but they never had anything that fit (same with the Hulk), Infinity War's going to effectively be a soft-reboot though so they have some space to fill with movies they can make now. They have a bunch of dates set for Marvel movies that haven't been announced that have to start pre-production by early next year. Guardians 3 is announced, and I have to assume Black Panther 2 will be, but those fill only two of the nine dates they slated through 2022. (And the Spider-Man films aren't counted because they're on Sony's.)

It's also hedging their bets a bit because Black Widow is an established character in a bunch of blockbusters already.

Why must air gun tech be introduced decades after porn theaters have gone out of business. Imagine experiencing a facial in 3D, the force of the air gun scaling to the cock size. Id pay a $2 air cock tax along with the 3D. Next gen would have misters.

I did nap during the Legend of Boggy Creek because I’ve seen it before and although it’s unique, it’s pretty slow paced. Joe Bob loves it because he has has family in Texarkana and he was tracking he Fouke monster’s movement and shit with a giant map of Arkansas as the movie went on.
Boggy Creek II has one of my favorite MST3K moments, at 13:50:

Picked up Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation in Ultra HD after coming across the ten minute opera sequence they officially released as a promo some time ago. Enjoyable action flick with a steady pace, decently photographed and cast (particularly Rebecca Ferguson), with action sequences that for any time they do utilize more rapid cuts doesn't lose its focus. Never really been into MI but probably more keen to see what the upcoming sequel is like after this.

Rate the Product Placement: in this scene Halo 5 is being played on three desktop monitors in landscape on an Xbox One (there are various Microsoft product placements in the film) yet from what I've been able to gather this triple landscape output isn't possible IRL with the console. Additionally Halo 5 wasn't even released yet. 6.5/10 for scene, 0/10 for accuracy :doge

CELL: Stephen King's okay take on zombie fiction here gets sized down into a bleak, un-fun, disjointed mess of a movie with John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson. Both of those actors do OK, Stacy Keach appears briefly in a role which could be performed reasonably by ANY OLD PERSON, and why do a cameo with Keach when you've got Sam Jackson in one of the two lead roles? Bleached color palette says they wanted to remake THE ROAD. Whimsical misuse of cuts between handheld and fixed camera shots leads to jumbled storytelling. To be clear, I thought the book was a page-turner and the ambiguous ending worked well for me. The movie goes a simpler route akin to the The Mist's direction, and suffers from shitty CGI while doing it.

Boo.

Benji's such a stunner s/w engineer that he hacked into MS for the binaries, and build three-monitor support into it just for his own amusement. It's also got a nude patch for Cortana.

Unfriended - The original one, not the new one coming out this week.

Pretty mixed. I really liked some of the creativity in the storytelling medium. Initially it was really engaging and there were some real cool bits using the 1st person computer desktop medium. But then instead of using that to tell an interesting creepy tale, it's a zero effort kill dumb teens one by one movie just like Truth or Dare and the dozens of movies like it. Once it settled into that and decided not to have any ambitions to do anything more than watch the kids die one by one, it was kinda zzzzzzzz

Probably will see the new one with my horror movie friends next week. A movie where REDDIT kills people sounds either terrible or amazing.

Saw Hereditary.

Was pretty good. Loved the sound design from the music to the sound effects and the directing was very solid with lots of neat tightly directed bits. The story was a little bit of a slow burn for the first 2/3rds but I like how it kept you guessing and the various angles it could be going. The last 30 mins are great creepy stuff and the ending is definitely gonna be the WTF ending of the year for 2018. Definitely finishes on a strong note so I get all the positive word of mouth.

halfway through I thought the twist of the movie was that there were going to be no supernatural elements at all and in the end the whole movie is just about a family dealing with grief and loss.

...definitely did not go that direction in the end! lol
