Spidey 3's score somehow didn't have Danny Elfman but still managed to be just as good as the first two and still shit over the OSTs for ASM and MCU Spidey :lawd

Last Year at Marienbad has finally gotten a re-release in NA (of the new 4K restoration). I sold my Criterion release a while back when it went OOP and was selling for ~$150, but I regretted it. Looking forward to picking this up and rewatching it this weekend, it's a beautiful movie.

Quick rundown of essential Resnais? This seems a bit deep-end-of-the-pool to jump in.

Maybe Disney manbabies will watch this and realize what good film making looks like?

I think whatever realization would be along the lines that a crossover with a Kylo Ren and Black Widow romance would be epic.

The music alone is somehow more prescient than the modern trilogies nostalgic vibes. How funny would it be if a streaming services series pushes the IP far more forward than the major releases end up doing as far as style and cinematic scope.

Watched Arrival with a buddy who hadn't seen it yet. 4k/hdr/oled the works.

It's been a while since I've seen it and it is still a compelling watch. The Johan Johannson(RIP  :'( ) soundtrack along with Denis Villeneuve film making easily immerses you into the story.
Amy Adams plays her role amazing as always. One of the things not touched upon or explained in the movie is...
spoiler (click to show/hide)
if the aliens were actually successful in enlisting the help of humanity in 3000 years. At the end of the movie only Dr. Banks seems to have grasped their concept of non-linear time.
Sure, we see her teaching the language and we see a banner at the convention with the Chinese general. But nothing indicates that humanity as a whole can now experience time in a different way.

If a person were to name their fav' film of all time based on how many times they've watched a film, mine would have to be A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. Which I'm about to watch again. It's pitch perfect mood and the black and white is used to such an effect that it has my heart completely.

Very stylish movie, but i was disappointed by it.
I loved the trailer, but ended up disliking the movie in the end.

Something about it just completely clicks with me. From the sense of isolation to the predator prey role reversals. On a technical and style level it's definitely very distinct. It's one of those films that fills a very specific niche for me.

There's obviously a French printing (duh) with a BR/DVD that you could try to import, but no subtitles (except French audio description) and most probably region locked (haven't found that info but that's the norm nowadays) which is a pain for the BR.

New Hellboy was so bad. The awful accents, the script and acting was one thing but then it's score sounds like out of a bad 90s action adventure tv show. Everything about the execution is just really bad. Perhaps the nicest thing you can say about the movie is every now and then they throw in a cool looking animatronic puppet/costume. Like a million bad cgi shots between those moments though.

Watched Denis Villeneuve's Polytechnique. I'd held off on watching this because I don't know if I really wanted to watch a movie about school shootings. And yeah, was a pretty hard watch. Not sure if school shooting movies need to exist as the internet does a pretty good job chronicling the details of these events. Cinematography and soundtrack were good, and well directed, but not really for me. Now that I've seen all Villeneuve's stuff other than his very early first 2 films, I'd put say Sicario > Incendies > Blade Runner 2048 > Enemy > Polytechnique > The Arrival > Prisoners though I'd put a lot of that as the first two having better scripts than the rest.

I enjoyed it, but I knew I was going in for pain -- so my expectations were low. Neil Marshall did two EXCELLENT movies, Dog Soldiers and Descent, and then wandered into derivative territory very quickly with Centurion and Doomsday. This new Hellboy was an interesting quasi-reboot, and there were interesting unanswered questions, references to other missions and entities, that hinted at bigger things. I'll watch it again.

As far as Neil Marshall goes I like most of his output including Centurion and Doomsday. That kinda stuff is what he's good at, 90s style mid range budget action bullshit. It's part of why he's been good at TV when he does pop up there (he directed some of the early "big" eps in GoT and he also did some stuff for Black Sails).

Blade Runner 2049 is my favorite and I have a soft spot for Prisoners and Sicario. Enemy isn't a well known film but also a great watch.

Blade Runner 2048 > Prisoners > Sicario > Arrival / Enemy

Incendies is on my watch list.

I can't imagine A24 or his producers made him change anything, so this is probably just extra gore and sex originally censored by the MPAA.

Ah so that explains DeNiro.

That's great news about it being stand alone.
I wouldn't mind it being integrated into a Batman reboot, if they managed to create a Batman that fit this down-to-Earth style (in fact, that'd be kind of interesting) but beyond that, when you start to throw in every Batman villain, let alone Justice League stuff, it just becomes a farce.

On that note, i was wondering if they could write a Spiderman reboot, where Spiderman is the only superhuman character (no super villains at all) and have a story like that.
I think that could be an interesting take.
