The first time I did meth I was already on a bunch of Xanax and alcohol and I don’t remember it and had to be informed of it the next day. It sounds like it was a very Disco Elysium situation, actually

There was no advertising and it's a reboot of a reboot that had a cancelled trilogy because the second movie tanked so hard 15 years ago. Not sure this is really a women action movies don't sell to men thing. Women also were not interested in this project.

And everything I've heard about it [outside of corporate media] indicates that it's a total snooze-fest.

That tweet is pretty out of context, but that's cool

--------------

Still, the director is aware that, in an age of streaming, “getting people off their couches to pay a babysitter, buy dinner, buy popcorn” is a tough ask.

“Look, people have to buy tickets to this movie, too. This movie has to make money,” she says, plainly.

“If this movie doesn’t make money it reinforces a stereotype in Hollywood that men don’t go see women do action movies.”

https://outline.com/6suuPK

She isn't blaming anybody

I'd be more sympathetic if her trailers knocked it out of the park. But they were all garbage.

Atomic Blonde and Lucy had decent trailers and they were successful.

A friend of mine on facebook posted this and said he's gonna see it twice lol.

The joke isn't so much about whether it was 3 mil or 300 mil. It's more about the "we gotta support Mr. Gotta Go Fast to show we really love Sanic"

But since you called me out, Nintex, I did a quick Google search and it seems like it was barely anything in the total budget

Thankfully they only had to pay poverty wages to a bunch of animators in Cambodia, so the budget hit was pretty minimal.

Seen Videodrome for the first time. I kind of couldn't stand James Woods' face, but everything else was right up my alley. I wonder if younger audiences could relate to any of this, considering so much relies on understanding outdated forms of media  :doge  Even if the general theme of virtuality vs. reality is still relevant (or rather, more than ever). Either way, love me some well done surrealism. I also prefer these kind of bigger themes compared to Lynch movies, in which relationship problems often seem to be root of each nightmare.

Yeah. It is why David Cronenberg is one of my favourite directors.

In terms of whether it is outdated, I think eXistenZ is kind of an updated version of it. However that was made in 1999 so maybe that is outdated also. And eXistenZ isn't as good as Videodrome in any case. eXistenZ is still worth a watch though if you haven't seen it.

Rewatched eXistenZ earlier this year. If anything, it has gained relevance and quality. Fabulous.

Yeah. I have to say the overarching story is good, but the one thing that bugs me about the movie is, it would make for a terrible video game. Too much random shit happens without any perceivable relationship to what came before it. It almost seems like what someone who doesn't play video games thinks video games are like. I think part of the reason it was done that way was to distinguish something that is not real, i.e. a video game, with what is real. However, it turns out distinguishing what is real from what is not real isn't so easy to do, which obviously is the point, so...

Fresh Prince Will + Ang Lee, can't be too bad.

It has a terrible rating on Rotten Tomatoes, 26%. However, it has an 83% audience score. That is quite a dramatic difference. My general rule is, the audience score is usually more accurate than the critic score. Although I am not sure I trust it any more. Since the verified user rating has been implemented it seems like fucking everything gets a super high audience rating now. It never used to be that way. The way in which they verify it I think is legitimate, the problem is the number of reviews has really dropped. Whereas in the past user reviews could be over 100,000, now you're lucky to see 20,000. Many movies getting less. So I am not sure any more.

I could’ve solved this last night if you people weren’t such skinflints. Here:

It’s like 2 notches better than the new Charlie’s Angels. It probably would’ve done well had it come out in the late 90s. The movie is so basic that it’s puzzling why anyone was so interested in this script for 20 fuckin years, let alone Ang Lee.

As for the high tech fancy frame rate shit, action scenes look nice with it, smoke and explosions look awesome, and a few other “special circumstances” scenes look swell (I think I remember a cool underwater scene? Or something? Maybe), but the rest of the movie is hit mega bad with the soap opera effect. Dialogue scenes look really cheap, like you, Big Willie, and yr bro’s grabbed mom and dad’s camcorder and shot some footage in the kitchen. But if you’re watching a rip or stream of this you’ll be getting the low tech version.

The action itself is just okay. Nothing notable. Probably a little lighter on action than it needs to be.

My one month late review of The Lighthouse:

In the credits Robert Eggers--who as best I can tell is that person you went to high school with who moved from "home" when they were a kid and overcompensated by trying too hard to be a superfan of "back home"--gives dap to Sarah Jewett in the credits for teaching him how to write local color dialog like, "If I had a steak . . . I would fuck it!," which would be like me writing a biopic of Jamaal 'abd al-Naaṣr and giving dap to Sayyid Quṭb for giving my characters diglossic accuracy.

Ford vs Ferrari

First half is pretty flat. Some of the 'moments' we should be having a stronger reaction to are kinda "yeah, sure. I see *shrug* "

Second half is pretty good and some the 'moments' stick the landing.

Not really missing out if you skip it. Tasty gear shifting though  :lawd

Christian Bale great job.

Sadly they lacked anything as kitschy as "Forces" on the first show's OST.

Holy fuck, 10 minutes into Return to Return to Nukem High AKA Volume 2 and it’s already far better than the mostly disappointing Return to Nukem High Vol. 1. I can’t believe it took this long to finally come out. About 7-8 years, I believe they were filmed at the same time, but maybe this went through lots of reworking after the first one was received tepidly by fans.
