So apparently the new Clint Eastwest movie, which is supposed to be about people being the victims of false reporting and false narratives, has a completely made up subplot about a REAL journalist who trades sex for a scoop. Classy job.

Climax - First half was zzz outside the one take dance number and second half felt like sitting in a theater with a baby screaming for 45 mins. Did not like. Only seen Irreversible for Noe, which I thought was quite good at the time. Dunno if i should bother with his other flicks.

Marriage Story by Noah Baumbach starring ScarJo and Ben Swollo. As you would expect, great acting (the actors are both relatable despite being glamorous), good and often very just writing which is so key to making those divorce dramas ring true. Good visuals and pacing (though maybe a little too long ?) but I didn't like how the director bookends this, felt very heavy handed, facile and superfluous.

Someone else watch Marriage Story so I could argue with them.

Adam Driver impressed me in ways I didn’t expect him to. ScarJo is also quite good but Adam Driver man—woah.

watched this last night, don't really have much more to add but was really impressed by both adam driver and scarjo, even the supporting cast was really solid

So basically it is a movie about a guy who disagrees with some far-left talking points?

Seriously though, it will be interesting to know whether the character properly reflects the 'alt-right' or is just a certain media portrayal of what constitutes alt-right. I bet it will be a mix of both. Although who even knows at this point. Is the alt-right even really a thing at this point? I don't know.

Yeah, that's the thing though. Gavin McInnes has some controversial opinions, but I wouldn't say he is alt-right. His own children wouldn't belong in a white ethno state for instance. I think his children are mixed race. His wife is native-American. That's the weird thing about some of these people. Like another one of these controversial figures who always gets lumped into the alt-right is Mike Cernovich, but the weird thing about him is his children are mixed race as well. So they wouldn't belong in a white ethno state either. I think Mike Cernovich's wife is Indian. His children have dark skin.

It's not an endorsement of him. It's just the association with the alt-right. He says he isn't alt-right, and I believe that part at least. Because I can't see how someone could support a white-ethno state when their own children wouldn't belong in it.

Honest question: Do you think that is comparable? Marrying a brown woman and having brown children with her. For a group that is obsessed with the purity of the white race, that is hard to fathom. Never mind whether he accepts them, why would they accept him? Doesn't make any sense to me.

What do you mean by that? Also, it's not like I am trying to do something. Although, you could say I am trying to square a white supremacist with married to a brown woman and having brown children and I can't. It is not typical behaviour of a white supremacist. It is the opposite in fact. Unless that person is a complete psychopath and are okay with murdering their own children if it came to it. But then why bother in the first place? Well... I guess white supremacists might be overrepresented when it comes to psychopaths, but you know what I mean.

If anyone has to try, surely it is to try and make him fit the white supremacist mould, no?

Mike isn't alt-right because the alt-right doesn't really exist anymore.

Early on the movement was sorta a 'rebellious' right against the regular old boomer conservatives. But surely but slowly they discovered they were either
1) In the same boat so you might as well call yourself conservative
2) Not 'right/conservative' at all but just anarchists, independents, libertarians or meme lords

Around the same time the actual white supremacists sorta dragged the movement down. So the alt-right split up into the various groups mentioned and fizzled out shortly after Trump was elected.
In part because Mike, Milo and other friends of his were Pikachu shocked that the Trump administration didn't send them job offers and the very same conservatives they rebelled against got hired instead.
The fact that icons of their movement such as Mike Flynn were fired within weeks didn't really help matters.

For real though, people say and do contrary things all the time. We can only speculate on why they got together and why they stay together. Maybe she's blackmailing him for being the whistleblower? That theory is just as credible as your "No he actually really does like nonwhites, look!"

In my view, like an ad hominem attack, bringing up a person's family, friends, confidants, etc. is not useful to the actual conversation about a person's words and beliefs.

It might not be, but it is at least indicative of those beliefs though right? I mean you don't have to agree with Mike Cernovich to at least acknowledge that aspect of him. I very rarely listen to the guy, but I have heard him interviewed in the past by others on various podcasts. He denies any association with the alt-right. And so in my mind, the question is, is there reason to doubt that? And to be honest, the people who really are white supremacist tend to be proud of it. Like Richard Spencer has no problem telling what he believes for instance, so... I don't believe he is a white supremacist. And yeah, his wife and children are a part of why I accept what he is saying on that.

Actually, I will make this point though because I just thought about it. You can be racist against one group of people without necessarily being racist against all groups of people. So for example, he could think Indians are just fine, but black people are not. So that might be possible.

It's not... really.

"I have brown children, so I can't support a white ethno state."

For some reason, that would seem more genuine than I fucked a black person so I can't be racist. It doesn't necessarily mean he isn't racist, I gave an example of how that might be so in my last post. However, it is harder to understand being in support of a white ethno state if his own children would have no future in it. You would think his loyalty would be for his family before the interests of others right? That is usually how it goes.

And in terms of slave owners, I'm pretty sure they didn't marry their slaves and treat the children like their legitimate ones. So that doesn't quite work either.

And lets finish this because we're just derailing the thread. I will just say that Mike Cernovich may have a whole bunch of shitty opinions, but personally I don't think the 'alt-right' label sticks.

Watched a few movies recently.

Toy Story 4

Have only seen the first one an incredibly long time ago. This one seemed fine. Not extraordinary or anything but a solid kids film that a parent could also tolerate to watch. I'm not overly into animated films the way some people are so that's enough Toy Story for me for awhile. I wasn't extra motivated to immediately see 2 or 3 to see what I've missed so far.

The Irishman

Good not great. Very long and I definitely felt that length at times but it was fun to see Pacino, and Pesci, and Deniro actually give a shit and do a lot of heavy lifting. The dialogue is perfectly suited for them and at times really funny. It's not on the level of something like Goodfellas but I appreciated them doing another one of these kind of movies before they start dying off.

Parasite

Really liked it. A weird blend of a whole bunch of different emotions and tones. Fortunately I knew nothing about it, which I think is by far the best way to probably experience that movie.

Midsommar

Also really liked this one but for very specific reasons. The plot and characters aren't really exceptional to me which would normally drag this type of movie down but the weirdness of the subject matter and the visuals elevate it above the normal fare. You could have easily made this exact same movie and tried to make it more mainstream and typical but I liked that they went more bizarre with it and there are just a lot of visual images that will stick with me. I like it because of that and despite the plot and the characters whom weren't that captivating to me (although some of that with the characters might have been purposely done)

Point being, men hold themselves to an entirely different standard than women often, and the difference is starker when you get into the various offshoots. There is enough of a sexist undercurrent where something like multicultural harems for the white man isn't going over poorly. The greatest rage they direct at cases where it is the white mom that has a mixed child.

(Image removed from quote.)

From his wikipedia page:

Quote
Cernovich has been classified by some reporters as being part of the alt-right movement,[6] but he rejects this label.[64] In his study of the alt-right, the political scientist George Hawley also disputed this characterization, saying that Cernovich "might be properly labelled" as "alt-lite".[65] Commentator Angela Nagle described Cernovich as a "major figure in the alt-light milieu".

That tweet I notice is from 2015. That is when the 'alt-right' really started to become a thing. At the beginning it was still quite ill-defined and you had articles from people like Milo Yiannopoulos that basically described the movement as made up of mostly shitposters who had enough of political correctness. And that the white supremacy elements were fringe. A bunch of right wingers jumped on to it seeing it as a fresh movement that would be able to attract the youth to a form of conservatism. I believe Paul Joseph Watson also called himself alt-right around that time too.

From Paul Joseph Watson's wiki
Quote
Although as late as July 2016 he called himself alt-right, he no longer accepts that label and considers himself part of the 'New Right'.[12]

There was a disassociation from the movement from a bunch of them the moment when the alt-right became associated with white supremacy more than anything else.

Edit: This article explains the whole 'new right' thing.

There was a disassociation from the movement from a bunch of them the moment when the alt-right became associated with white supremacy more than anything else.

Amazing, he literally says he went alt-right because because he's convinced he needs to save the whites from extinction and you're utterly molesting the English language to twist it.

Why are people making me defend Cernovich. lol

And I don't twist things. This is something I don't do. Everything I said in that post is factually true, which is why I said it.

I even posted an article that confirms what you just highlighted. Read the article. it is right there. lol

Look:
Quote
The Deploraball, he explained, was about launching a populist, nationalist movement, separate from the alt-right, a white nationalist ideology which rose to prominence during the 2016 campaign.

In the weeks which preceded Deploraball, civil war had enveloped the alt-right movement. Cernovich, who has made a number of controversial statements himself, led a wing that aimed to expel white nationalists. Richard Spencer, a leading white nationalist who gained notoriety in the weeks after Trump's election, led the opposition that fought for control.

Relations between the feuding groups came to a head when Cernovich made the decision to bar Spencer and his white-nationalist faction from attending the highly anticipated Deploraball, for which he was one of the primary organizers.

Cernovich instead decided to use the opportunity to break off his supporters, who he claimed far outnumbered Spencer's, and launch the "new right," which he said would be free of the racist tendencies the alt-right had become all too known for.

"There is the alt-right which wants to do white identity politics. And there's people … who want to do nationalism without white identity politics," Cernovich said. "And now everybody knows where I stand and everybody else knows where everybody else is."

And why he talked about white genocide, what his point is, I don't know, I haven't looked in to it. I would be speculating. I will say though, people say dumb things and can believe dumb things. He didn't say he needed to save the white race from extinction though, that is actually you twisting the English language ironically enough. He said that tolerance only goes one way and that diversity is 'code' for white genocide. And one possible interpretation of that is he means the way the rhetoric often seems adversarial to white people. "You're a fucking white male". It's used as pejorative. But then I am speculating which I don't want to be caught up in.

Dude's garbage. Do we really need to determine, specifically, which type he is?
