I finally got around to watching Gimmie Shelter. Amazing. The Malayses brothers are truly the greatest filmmaking brothers in history, and I REALLY should watch the movie they directed about my grandfather.

So unrealistic. It's like watching a cartoon movie. The effects were good. 5/10

Julie & Julie

Based on a true boring story. 4/10

500 days of Summer

Great movie. It was a bit confusing though. I think I'll have to rewatch it again. 7/10

I watched The Beider Meinhoff Complex.

I am pretty ignorant about the movement itself, but i found myself sympathetic to the cause while simultaneously hating all the people involved

pedo alert; the movie opens on a nude beach and features frolicking children.

She wasnt a bitch, but it also wasnt love either. Summer wasnt a person so much as she was an ideal.

Exactly. The movie was about Tom growing out of his childish, fairytale understanding of love and relationships. Summer's behavior didn't match with that understanding, so his perception of her was unfairly skewed.

And the chick's name was Autumn! August would be a goofy name. :lol

Just watched Sword of the Stranger with a friend.  Fifth or Sixth time I've seen it from start to finish.  Still incredible in every way possible.  That and Millennium Actress are the two films that'll join the ranks of the anime classic films like Akira and Wings of Honneamise as the years move on.  I wish Japan could right fleshed out tightly woven scripts like Stranger in their anime or live-action films more than once a decade.  For the most part, Japan does not know how to write a 90-120 min script anymore.

Supergirl! The Love Story

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Rumor-Taylor-Swift-To-Star-In-Supergirl-The-Love-Story-16246.html

Quote
This website claims that Kanye West victim Taylor Swift is up for the role of Supergirl. Further they claim that someone is making an awful movie called Supergirl! The Love Story in which Taylor Swift would appear as the character. This is a rumor so impossible, that it must be true. No one would fake anything this ridiculous, would they?

It makes a certain sort of sick sense. They’re just applying the Twilight formula to superhero movies now, right? It was inevitable. So they’ll take a superhero property and fill it full of teenagers who aren’t Mormons even though they act a lot like them, and have them stand around gazing longingly at each other. Then every now and then, one of the cute ones, will fly. Whether or not this particular rumor turns out to be true, come on, we all know it’s coming. And if you’re going to do it, why not do it with Supergirl, and if you’re specifically targeting the teenage girl Twilight crowd, why not do it with Taylor Swift? I mean assuming you don’t care about making a good movie which, if you’re considering this, you most certainly do not.

Besides, it’s Supergirl. Geeks don’t care about Supergirl. Serious moviegoers even less so. Let the tweens have her if only to protect something we actually care about from their tempting purchasing power. Make Supergirl! The Love Story so they don’t make Batman! The Love Story later. Here's hoping they cast Kanye West as Lex Luthor.

How does the Man of Steel/Woman of Kleenex work in reverse?

The Supergirl movie should be animated since no human woman has breasts large enough to play the lead role.

Or I guess they could use CG like Peter Jackson used in LORT to make the dwarves and hobbits look smaller than the humans, only in reverse.

Speaking of Supergirl, how did that shapeless twig Helen Slater ever get that role?  I was just watching The Secret of My Success yesterday and wondering how Slater got so many parts in the 80's.  She's pretty but not breathtaking, and she's 6 feet tall with no curves.

How the hell was she Supergirl?

I could really care less that they remade The Karate Kid, it wasn't that great to begin with. It was an entertaining flick from our youth, and like so many of them (Goonies!), they really haven't aged that well - unless you got the blinders on.

It's not they're remaking Raiders of the Lost Ark or anything.

That was Matrix, which was the post-Crisis Supergirl made when DC decided that Superman could be the only surviving Kryptonian. Pre-Crisis, and currently, Supergirl was and is Superman's cousin from Krypton.

What's with the move to China? Pat Morita was of Japanese descent and karate is a style of fighting that originated in Japan.

At some point they actually wanted to change the name to The Kung Fu Kid, but then changed it back.

I'm not going to spoil anything, but Pusher III was rough. I thought Pusher II was mostly about hopelessness and it was raw in its own way, but Pusher III tops both, while tying strongly into the first film. It's also totally believable, with it being set in Copenhagen.

If you liked the Pusher movies, you will probably get a kick out of Adam's Apples. Raw, surreal comedy.

Pusher III trailer, but it may be a bit spoilerish

Holy shit, fuck awesome movie. I didn't know much about it going in, so the initial documentary style threw me off a bit. I really liked it on all levels, and like many of the great sci fi movies/books/etc it's more than just sci fi. I thought it transitioned pretty damn well from an adventure type flick to straight up balls-to-the-fucking-wall action in the second half

Definitely my MOTY, and I'm relieved I no longer have to tell people my MOTY was Julie and Julia  :-[

Finally watched The Road. Oh man. I loved it, a lot. Viggo's performance in this was on another level and I was very happy that the boy was able/allowed to contribute (instead of just being there). I felt the ending
spoiler (click to show/hide)
was definitely hopeful and not as bleak as some people made it out to be (of course this is just a matter of opinion, I guess it can be interpreted any which way). The father passed on to his son a good sense of humanity and will, the son was also shown to be a good judge of character. The father going through all this, knowing he wouldn't be able to see it through, that was damn heartbreaking.

Definitely up there as the best movie I've seen this year.

I'll read the book eventually but I'm going to let this sit and move out of my system as time goes by.

Also
spoiler (click to show/hide)
my eyes welled up during Robert Duvall's scenes (especially the campfire). He exuded this character that lost it all and is just drifting. His remark about not telling the father about how he lost his son, especially not to him... was powerful.

G.I. Joe

Better than I expected it to be and it pretty much hits all the right notes for an scifi-action movie. When you get down to it, the movie is basically just one, long action scene. There's almost no down time for story or character because the movie realizes that you don't really care about all that stuff too much. Mostly this works, except for the end where it's abundantly clear that everything that happened in the movie is the setup for the sequel which may or may not ever happen. Solid, but hardly spectacular.

Nice.  I was worried that it wouldn't live up to the source, but you (even without having read it) make it sound like Hillcoat's done it some justice.  How's the score?

The score didn't jump out at me (well some sweeping portions when they're walking), so it was a non factor while viewing, to me. Thinking about it now, it did sort of feel a little too average or vanilla sounding instead of playing to the bleak scenario.
