I think it'd be cute now that we're in the end game of OP if Sanji actually does get married and his wife comes with him on the crew until they find One Piece.  Sanji would be such a different character being a married man on the ship.  Would be a neat character growth change.

Though if they wanted to play it safe I could see them ending the arc with Sanji telling his bride to wait and that he'll be back after he finish his goal and will marry her then.

brah can't you read

he already said no

Which, because of how manga are written, means he will say yes at the end of the arc.

Man.. I decided to check out where the anime is right now. Those motherfuckers are still on Dressrosa. :doge

They did have the next arc start with Nami, Chopper, Brook, and the others who go onto the next part going to that weird island or wherever, but then the show went BACK to Dressrosa.  No idea if that's how the manga goes since I still have a shit-ton of reading to do.  My guess is that they maybe don't have enough material to cover the current arc yet and are doing filler?

I like this arc because for a first arc against a Yonkou the power balance feels right.  Luffy and Crew are getting creamed and even Sanji's family is outpowering him.  Will be interesting to see how they survive this arc because they're really underdogs now.  I mean after their upgrades, they stomped through Underwater Fish Place, Punk Hazard and then just barely got through Dressrosa a little above the cut, but now they're back to being underpowered.  Pretty good balance curve.

I was looking up the arc names from the series to date and interesting enough the one piece wiki has the chapter/volume length of each arc.  While your average big arc in one piece is about 50 chapters, 4-6 volumes in length, Dressrosa was 102 chapters, 11 volumes in length, the longest arc in the series.  I think that explains why Dressrosa felt pretty dragged out by the end.  The only comparable arc in size is if you count Water 7 + Enies Lobby as a single arc they're about 100 chapters combined.

Reading the reddit thread:  its probably a sailors biscuit, which gets soft in moisture. Hoping this will be Nami's time to shine rain.

New chapter out.

I like this arc.  If they don't drop the ball in the last 1/3rd or drag it, this can be Sanji's Enies Lobby.

New chapter out.  Was feeling it was kinda a waste of a chapter since we already get that Sanji's family are asshole jerks, but the end of the chapter at least gives the possibility the next chapter's tale could be interesting.  Still mostly a waste of a chapter, but oh well.

It was Luffy and Nami vs a commander who's devil fruit is basically neutralized by their combined powers.

Yeah, it's sorta the same as Robin.  This whole arc is kind of Sanji's Enies Lobby.  But well, I'll give him a pass on the creativity since it's all kinds of entertaining.  The issue this week is gonna be :o

Luffy vs. Usopp was interesting at the time, but Luffy vs. Sanji should actually be exciting.

More Nami than Robin. Sanji wants to live and has a reason for living. Robin didn't. Nami had her hands tied because Arlong threatened to kill her entire village. Kind of the same deal here. If Sanji had the opportunity to escape without Zeff dying or losing his hands, he would. same for Nami's situation. Sanji will more than likely use the fight as an opportunity to tell Luffy what's going on (using his fists to fight for instance). Sanji has gone through this rodeo before and knows Luffy won't back down without good reason. If he shows Luffy that he has bombs on his wrists, Camie style, he knows Luffy will retreat and rethink his plan.

I hope luffy didn't lose his tooth for good.

So he lost it in this fight?  I was like "wait, when did Luffy lose a tooth?" and I also was like "wait, why isn't Luffy missing all his teeth considering how hard he's gotten the shit kicked out of him by now"

I do like how Oda handled this chapter.  Made it feel more unique and makes the arc less Enies Lobby.

Actually if they got married and then she comes with Sanji back to the ship, that might not be a bad thing.  I think Sanji's womanizing's sorta been played out at this point and Sanji the married cook could be a neat character growth.

One catch from reddit.  Sanji made a bento box subconsciously made for Luffy - who is still on a hunger strike.

it's still a hunger strike.

this arc might be a GOAT OP arc. Not as good as Sabaody/Amazon Lily/Impel Down/Marineford but getting DAMN close to Water 7/Enies Lobby quality.

I think fishman island was kind of weak. Don't remember anything about it. Dressrosa was initially slow but it ended great. Zou and Big Mom are pre-time skip caliber.

Oda is seriously evil in how he always times his breaks on the biggest cliffhangers.  So the bigger the events happening, the more breaks because he knows he can get away with it and keep the tension ><

This arc is great, it's such a fun fantastical contrast to the Flamingo last arc which had its moments but just wasn't that interesting of city story and went on forever.  I can't see this arc going on too long.  Feels like once it explodes in a chapter or two, it's going to be utter chaos and over quickly in a handful of issues.

Catching up. About to start the latest chapter, but really? A Flashback right now? c'mooooooooooooooooooooooon that's bullshit Oda. I don't care about the background of Big Mom.

*edit* eh, that was ok but still unnecessary.

I has question.

So I've been watching the Marineford Arc again (well, watching clips of it on youtube), and there's something puzzling that I somehow never noticed before.

So I thought all this time that attacks infused with Haki were supposed to nullify logia based devil fruits. But there were two instances that put that into question. The first was Marco and Vista attacking Akainu with haki infused attacks, which Akainu completely shrugged off. Whatever damage he had was superficial, and he fully healed instantly.

Now, one possibility that could explain this is that simply having haki isn't enough to harm a logia user. You need haki, but more importantly, you need an incredibly strong level of haki. This would explain why both Marco and Vista couldn't harm someone at Admiral level, but someone like White Beard could. The difference between White Beard and his subordinates (even including his first mate!) was just that huge.

But case number two seems to contradict that theory. When Whitebeard was fighting Aokiji, he stabbed him with his haki infused bisento, but Aokiji was totally fine, and continued his onslaught like as if he was fighting Luffy. This is even further weirder because someone like Jozu tackled Aokiji and actually was able to hurt him (even if it was minor).

What's up with that?

No idea. Was that stuff in the manga as well?

how can you say it's unnecessary when you don't know what's about to follow? it might very well be quite necessary with what we're about to see :doge

baka :doge

Eh, the timing for the flashback was total bullshit. Oda's been dragging out this attack on Big Mom plan a couple of months, including (multiple I think?) breaks. Now when he finally gets to the moment of attack...flashback for X amount of weeks.

Flamingo's arc had issues because the pacing was whack. This arc had been moving much better but now at the finale of the action breaking out it's slowing to a crawl. Definitely feels like this will be better read in volume form when it's over.
