I don’t even know where to begin! I stopped after 5 episodes. I kept thinking it would get better. But it just never did. I was hoping for something funny. But it never was. I get it satire and it does a good job at poking fun but mainly of those who would be more conservative. Personally, I watch movies and TV programs to escape from the chaos. Just for a moment. Where are programs of hope and humor. People get enough of the whole SJWisms in every day life. So if you are needing that escape. Might want to pick a different program. However, for some, this series will be up their alley.

My 5 year old cousin got a hold of this show. She had been doing nothing but drawing dead bloody people since. This level of violence doesn't belong in any super hero context. And there are alot of youth that are going to be watching this, Sadly.

Finished Refn's Too Old to Die Young

God, this show was trash. It picked up around ep4 or so and was at least interesting until ep8 and then nothing happens in the last 2 eps and people sit and read 5 minute long ridiculous Refn speeches stating his political and religious views. Can't believe I wasted 13 hours on this. At least the final ep was only 30 mins.
Don’t know how you didn’t see this coming 30 minutes in :p.

Show is the embodiment of self indulgent pretension. Does solidify refn as a hack auteur, so that's good.

Not sure how to put it, but fps seems too low, like it's almost stuttering in some parts.

Given that it's also been renewed for a S5, more Expanse stuff:

yeah i'm enjoying too but, and this is more a reflection of myself, i get jaded at anything serious it wants to convey; like of course a corporation owns superheroes and of course it's all heavily focus tested with a marketing team and share price is everything.

i was half hoping for a kara-esque tax planner to show up and discuss if the heroes could be viewed as directors and operating overseas for extended periods of time could create an establishment, then they could assign dozens of cost centres per hero but kara then flips out and shouts transfer pricing is a big nothing that adds no value and creates nothing

I binged the shit out of the final season of Orange Is The New Black, and its a very satisfactory conclusion to whats overall been an incredibly consistent series.

Still character driven, still funny where it needs to be, still thought provoking and still asking pertinent questions about power dynamics and what the purpose of a prison is and what it should be, and still touching on contemporary issues without going too far down the 'ripped from the headlines monster of the week' territory.

Also actually makes an effort to do something tangible about the issues it raises instead of just finger wagging a 'bad guy' responsible for everything.

I guess a lot of trendwatchers fell off this when their blogs stopped gushing over it; obviously resetera which you'd assume would be a receptive audience DGAF because a new cape show landed at the same time

I guess it doubles as my opinion on the show:
Quote
I finished season 2 of Dark just today (binged it all in the last week or so) and i liked it.
I don't have a problem with the nihilism you mention, the show is almost completely devoid of any humor, but that shouldn't be a prerequisite i think (or Bergman would be a hack).
Regardless, if you like time travel stories, it's probably one of the best i've seen on the screen, this side of Primer (and significantly less complicated than Primer, lol).
It deals with all the usual plot points you find in all of them, such as time loops and paradox and so on and so forth, but puts them together with enough verosimiltude and breakneck pace to make it fun.

I wasn't really sold on episode 1 so i'd suggest to at least give it 3 or 4 episodes, to let the 50 characters set in your head a bit.
I honestly cemented who was who in which timeline, into season 2, so i guess it's normal to run mental connect-the-dots at first.

Casting director on the show should get a medal though, the way they chose various actors to represent the same character is really well done, as far as likenesses go, almost uncanny at times (i could recognize who they were even before the name drop, despite being a different actor).

Before watching i had seen people comparing it to Twin Peaks, and to be honest, aside from the general theme of parallel timelines, and a small town where everyone has a history/skeleton in the closet with one another, there isn't much else they share.

But it's a really gripping show, and the characters grow on you, even though in season 2 they sort of focus more on a couple of central ones, for better or worse, as the plot grows in scale.
--
I'll add a bit on the S2 finale:

really big spoiler on the very end/twist of season 2's finale
I didn't really like the multi-dimension twist, it feels like an excuse to drag the show a couple of more seasons, and it already has a milliojn threads as it is, does it really need a multiverse, too? EDIT: I actually read that S3 will be the final one, so maybe they're going somewhere with it, i'm cautiously optimistic

He doesn't mean Bizarro as in Bizarro, he means the "Superman" stand-in in the series. Who is a drug-addicted madgod sex-criminal. In the comic he even dabbles in cannibalism and necrophilia during his even further descent from being totally unchecked.

they thankfully did not adapt the comic stories, there's common elements and bits here and there used but the episodes are mostly all new stuff, "The Boys" are actually assembled during the first season for example

i think they're also moving one of the latter plotlines up to the front end for season two

First ep. of Community was free on iTunes. I laughed out loud several times during a sitcom, and enjoyed a pilot/first episode. Two firsts.

How old is this thread???

I got a letter from downloading God of War PSP, so I started using MegaUpload links. There's always one up if you search around.

I've just been watching the new Heroes. It's of course gone absolutely nowhere and all the characters are distinguished mentally-challenged fellows.

Some smart calls with the changes in The Boys. I like Ennis' work but he tends to go nasty for nastiness sake way too often, especially when he's working outside of the big publishers. The Boys is a great premise, you don't gotta take it too far and it'll still be good.

I ain't liking The Boys as much as you lot.
It's fun when it's cynical and gory and that, but when it tries to go deeper, it falls into the "I AM SILLY" trap a lot.
I was under the impression it was to be a "realistic take" on super heroes with and edgy bend, but really, it just trades one shallow cartoon depiction for another.
I actually wouldn't mind that, if it didn't have the "normal" guy self insert characters (the main guy and the super girl) as a juxtaposition to show just how silly these psychos are.
Like most superhero shows/movies it really talks down to the audience in an obnoxious way.

It's still fun to follow Butcher (as clichè as he is so far) around doing shit though.
And having supes as bad guys is infinitely better than watching shit like The Flash or whatever.

Ennis has been that way forever. I completely agree with the assessment. There's a whole streak of Preacher that's just vile, and it's clear Ennis is just being juvenile in a "how far can I push this?!" way.

Just started The Boys yesterday, and it clearly has its roots in Ennis work, but is just BARELY restrained enough to make it palatable. I'm enjoying it.

Also, fuck all those Amazon soccer moms who let their kids watch it and then bitched about it. Look how many warnings are on that opening screen. It's got every checkbox filled, for every type of adult material. Don't blame others for bad parenting.

Obviously (though that was all laid out how many years and regime changes ago?), but they can definitely throw in some DCEU easter eggs which de-canonize it in an extremely subtle way. Also, they've already had Bane's mask from The Dark Knight Rises in Elseworlds.

The current regime is indicating that DCEU's been saved from the trash bin by Diana, Arthur and Harley with them slating it out farther now than it had been before the SNYDER CRISIS, they as usual think Superman is the problem. (And not, you know, spending $500 million on and wanting to start over a film you set a hard release date on. After you did almost the same thing budget wise on the prior film.) The actual always problem with the DCEU "canon" was that they never actually established anyone to oversee it until after Justice League was already in production, Snyder was just expanding to the team out of what he wanted to do and Warners assumed they could do a bunch of spin-offs off his team-up films. Only they never planned any of that out, but all the films are still tied to BvS directly. (Nothing from JL except Bruce contacting everyone and forming a team needs to be referenced again and Aquaman just sorta vaguely mentions events.) Johns wasn't brought in and then dismissed for that DC Films "plan" until they had already told Snyder to keep going and slated all the spin-offs with the understanding that they'd be tied to and occur (canon-wise) after Snyder's Justice League films. Since nothing happened in JL of any consequence for the other characters and The Batman films are set in the past, that plan hasn't been bothered.

I doubt Warners wants to cross the two streams after seeing Marvel fuck it up so bad*. Especially since Arrow is supposed to be ending in part so Berlanti can keep the universe expanding without everything having to be tied back to it.

*Aside from the failed productions, Marvel chose not to tell the showrunners of Agents of SHIELD that the universe was jumping ahead five years, they apparently learned it like everyone else from Endgame. After the show was already airing episodes post-snap.

That said, the only real problem i have, is Hugh and Starlight as characters, are out of place within the rest of the world.
They're basically the straightmen role, but come off as weirdly preachy, when it is really unnecessary.
They should stick to the more colorful cast.

Homelander is clearly the high point of the show (i guess most agree with this) so hopefully season 2 zeroes in on him even more.
Also i remember Antony Starr from Banshee (in which he played the main guy), and even in that show, he brought a good emotional depth to an otherwise fairly simple "action badass" cartoon of a character.

The Boys is a Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc™ production, you say?

When he sells her the more expensive HDMI, in that scene, i assumed it was to show him being a cunt.

There's crazy amounts of product placement, but thats just a straight up 5 minute onscreen sales pitch :trumps

I can't wait for The Boys' 5 minutes of fame to be over because I keep thinking everyone is talking about Les Boys, a valued part of Québécois culture, which you aren't.

Really enjoyed The Boys. Finished it over 2 nights I think?

I feel like its super cringe-worthy at times but I think thats the fault of the inexperienced actors and weird as fuck material. Its fucking wild shit to work with so I can't be too harsh on them. I definitely think throwing some more money at the special effects in future seasons (which I'm sure it will have) and a couple of the actors coming into their own a bit will give the show the more serious feel it was desperately trying to have but very much lacked for me. I did like Homelander a lot although he was way too obtusely machiavellian at times.

Overall really liked it.

Too Old to Die Young (4 episodes so far).
I don't mind slow burners.
I like nihilistic art/shows.
I like violent, vile art/shows.
I like the whole neon aesthetic.
I even enjoyed some aspects of Only god Forgives.

But this show is fucking taking the piss with those pans back and forth.  :lol

Jia Zhangke's Still Life still has it beaten for pauses between sentences though.  :doge

It ramps up the vileness.
