So, still reading Marvel circa-2008 in MU. Read through Messiah Complex which I actually enjoyed, except that it had a non-ending and is just like whatever until it's continued in the next event. Finished up some Wolverine stuff which was stupid, then Phoenix Warsong I think it was called which was stupid about phoenix and the emma frost kid trio. On X-Factor now, around issue 10-25 or something. It's pretty great. I really wish this version of Multiple Man made it into the Marvel movies or TV shows.

As much as I really liked Legion, I still feel it would have been the perfect X-factor Investigations show with Dan Stevens as Multiple Man. From a comedy perspective, MM seems like one of the better comedy characters in the Marvel Universe and would translate well to screen. Plus having multiple dupes special effects is so easy these days it wouldn't even be particularly expensive to make.

Maybe someday when they run out of heroes I guess.

Out of curiousity I googled X-factor Investigations TV show and found this rumor from 2015 that Fox was deep into making X-Factor Investigations TV show:
https://screenrant.com/x-men-x-factor-live-action-tv-show/

Pretty sure that is Legion. So I wonder if Legion started as a pitch for X-factor Investigations and then became its own original thing at some point. Hopefully that doesn't write off a separate X-Factor show at some point!

I've said before that I like Bendis for the most part, but man is he wrong for Superman. Canceling Super Sons is a really ominous sign too. More and more I feel like his run is going to be a total bomb. Like Devin Grayson on Nightwing level bad.

Fuck me, Batman & The Signal is awful. Writing sucks, art sucks, Duke sucks.

But mostly the writing.

And the art.

I really wanted to like Duke and waited and waited til they actually did something with him, but no... he's just a dumb character.

I feel like Marvel doesn’t even understand why their shit sucks so bad.

Like, you do a line wide relaunch called Legacy in spetember, and then you do another line-wide relaunch called fresh start in 8 months later? How do you relaunch everything every 8 months and expect the books to be any good?

:-\

Can't say the same but I will probably give up Superman for a while, like I did after New 52 and before Convergence (and even then, I only followed Post-Crisis Supes, Lois and Jon, and not the "canon" meathead version.)

This sounds awfully silly, you'd stop reading an entire medium for years because you don't like the way Superman was written?

Well I had a back log of it. So I was behind. I was way back in the arc about Orphan's mom and now I'm caught up to the current arc. What I like about is that it's a team book first. I'm conditioned by my love of X-men to be into team books over title character books I think and while Batman is clearly an important part, he's not really the main character. All of the character have gotten a lot of the spotlight and plenty of development. I like that there's an overarching storyline and long plots that are being developed throughout the arcs. There feels like a plan and that everything is going places.

My problem with X-men comics these days is that there doesn't seem to be any long game. No overarching plots that tie the arcs together. Just a series of 4-5 issues they can put into a trade and call it a day. Most members of the team seem to just stand around and there's not lot of actual development going around. Most X-men books feel like they are spinning their wheels. I have liked some of the recent Blue issues despite hating that team, but again their doesn't seem to be a long game and that's what I like about super hero comics. These long sagas that build and build into an ending.

Marvel seems to not like that. Storylines seem to be built around trades and then are always interrupted by some crossover. While I dislike that DC seems to take forever with their trades, the single issues don't feel written around trades.

A Brief Guide to Marvel Comics' Four Relaunches—Yes, Four—Since 2015

:crowdlaff

Quote
Every new and relaunching series will start off once again at #1, making the decision to release months of titles with issue numbers in the multiple hundreds before reverting back look just as silly as it ended up being. In fact, some titles will feature two separate numberings, continuing the Legacy number and a new relaunched number for good measure. Which is... not confusing at all.

I feel like Marvel is operating on some out of date logic. Yes I understand that at one point there was fear of big numbers, that people wouldn't want to jump on things that seemed to be long in the tooth. That people would jump unto number ones because it's a number one. Maybe that was true, but I don't know I think the dust has settled. You're not getting a rush of new buyers because of the movies. If you are they probably aren't checking out single issues. People have youtube and the like to get caught up. If anything I feel like DC has shown that comic readers want an ongoing comic saga, one that dosen't restart over and over again. Media right now is serialized. No one is afraid of these overly long shows like GoT or Walking Dead. They've realized that streaming allows people to get caught up to date and there's money to be had by that. The need for having jump on points dosen't really hold water these days in how media is consumed. Marvel needs to get with the program.

The one thing I'll say in "defense" of Marvel is that in regards to their book numbering, they've been saying that they treat everything like "seasons," hence them starting over so much.

...It's still confusing and stupid.

A Brief Guide to Marvel Comics' Four Relaunches—Yes, Four—Since 2015

Gotta comment on this part of the article.

Quote
There have been a few comics announced as part of the roster shakeup, however. There will now only be one Avengers book (by Jason Aaron and Ed McGuiness), after years of multiple teams bearing the name, which will unite Black Panther, Thor (the Odinson version), Iron Man, Captain America, She-Hulk, Doctor Strange, and Ghost Rider.

While I personally think this is a good thing (there's too many Avengers teams), at the same time...why would you do this when you're about to put the Avengers back in the spotlight with movies this year and next year, Marvel?  :lol ???
Quote
Odinson will be reinstated as the God of Thunder in his own Thor series, by Jason Aaron and Mike Del Mundo.

:zzz I dunno what it is.  I loved Thor Ragnarok and the movie version in general, but I just don't care about this character in comics.  Didn't care about FemThor once her identity got revealed either.  Maybe this new creative team will change my mind.

Quote
Black Panther by Ta-Nehisi Coates and Daniel Acuña, will pick up on the thread first teased in Marvel Legacy #1 of there being a vast Wakandan Space Empire.

Ditto here like Thor.  Also "Wakandans...iiiinnnn spaaaaaaace" doesn't seem like it's going to be a popular thing people will want after the movie.
:idont

Quote
Following his death in Civil War (and his bizarre re-appearance in Secret Empire), Bruce Banner will be restored as the Hulk in Al Ewing and Joe Bennett’s The Immortal Hulk.

This one was obvious.  One thing about his "bizarre re-appearance" in Secret Empire- he was brought back by the magic arts that create Hand ninjas.  So that's fine.  Except one thing- Bruce Banner lost the Hulk as a part of him.  Amadeus Cho got the literal Hulk personality from Banner and put it in himself.  Remember, Marvel?  I guess the answer is we should forget about that and Marvel stories are like pro wrasslin'- forget about past events unless we tell you!   But Bruce Banner being there was no weirder than the A.I. version of Tony Stark walking around and acting like he was Tony and being away from Ironheart.

But Secret Empire sucked anyway and is best forgotten.

Quote
In another out-there announcement, multiplying mutant Jamie Madrox—a.k.a. Multiple Man, a.k.a. future Marvel movie star—is getting his own series as part of the relaunch, too.

...Huh?  They killed Madrox off in the X-Men books.  :lol  (I know, I know...doesn't matter.)

Marvel actually did this before. In the early 2000s, when the books they had outsourced to Image came back from Franklin Richards pocket universe to Marvel, they started over as #1's for the second time in 14 issues and then had dual numbers on them. Thor, Fantastic Four, etc. were like #40 / #479

oh god, so is this:

Quote
President Donald J. Trump is now the most powerful superhero in the universe and the leader of the greatest super team in history - but for how long? History is quickly being changed by something called The Mandela Effect; the universe is being Berenstained! All the things we remember are now slightly different - the way names are spelled, the way company logos look, and even scenes from Star Wars and James Bond movies! The Mandela Effect is the greatest threat our country has ever known, and only President Trump can stop it! Trump's Titans return in an all-new #1, because #4s are for losers!

spoiler (click to show/hide)
How do I send a copy of this to Grant Morrison, because the Trump stuff aside, the premise of this, especially thinking about things like changes to Star Wars/E.T. scenes could really be great in The Mutiversity Too

What is the fascination with putting everyone in space over at Marvel? Thor, iron man, thing, Captain Marvel, Venom have all done stints in space fairly recently, almost all have been boring af. I find Coates BP to be boring anyway, so it’s probably fitting. I tried to be a good ally and read like 4 issues when he first took over, but shit is bad.

I bet that book will largely feature.... The Guardians of the Galaxy!!!

Detective Comics #975

Wonderful issue, if a bit wordy. While I enjoyed everyone dunking on Bruce, it feels out of character that he'd just take it. Seeing Tim's interactions with everyone was great, but something about his voice felt a little off. They've been writing him a bit dumber than he should be to inject some fake drama... or maybe I'm unjustly comparing him to his pre-New 52 self, who was probably a bit older than canon Timmy is. Eh, it's still good he's back in the spotlight I suppose.

Also, the cover to the next issue is some straight-up Silver Age cheese. :lol

"DC Black Label" is DC's new attempt at a "prestige" imprint it seems. Feels very similar to the All-Star, Earth One and Elseworlds lines but kinda rolled up into one with an emphasis on the creative team.

Savage Dragon #232:

-HAHA REALITY TV CREW MAKING DRAGON FAMILY DO DUMB STUFF
-Another villain who doesn't really matter is killed almost as soon as he's introduced.  He can phase his body and dies phased inside Malcolm.  Whoops!
-No sex scenes this time (wow, what's wrong, Erik?) but we do still get Maxine being so horny that it appears she's already dripping wet with anticipation of dragon dick.
-Back in Dimension X, the other Dragon who popped up last issue is revealed to be Michael Dragon from another Earth.  Assuming this is still another version of Malcolm.  It seems to be implied that the trio of Jennifer/Angel/Alex wants to "thank him" for rescuing them by snoo-snoo.
-Are we finally ever going to get somewhere with all this crap?

Amazing Spider-Man #797:

Still no Red Goblin yet and instead it's nutso-twisted Norman Osborne who has kidnapped someone who is talking to throughout the issue.  This is revealed to be J. Jonah Jameson, who spills the beans that Spider-Man is Peter Parker.  I don't remember Norman having forgotten this (was this part of One More Day?) but he's ready to do whatever to start getting revenge on Peter.  It also may be that the Carnage symbiote itself is in complete control here.  Hard to say.  Not a lot going on considering that there's only three issues to go until this story is over.

You should probably spoiler that since a lot of people are behind, but yeah that looks to be the case, I bet it's Barda and not his son, they've spent quite a number of chapters emphasizing their closeness. could also just be a red herring  :thinking
EDIT:

More on red herring, he seems to have all the signs of PTSD and they directly mention Jacob's Ladder, that combined with the fact that Tom King is writing a universe wide PTSD story after this, may just mean he's experiencing this all in his mind without external influence  :trumps

i consumed much of the young animal universe (no vore)

Mother Panic is great, so is Cave Carson has a Cybernetic Eye.

The actual only real complaint about I have is whatever it is that holds back Doom Patrol from not having delays.

Also, the "reboot" coming out of the Milk Wars, I'm kinda iffy on, mainly in MP as I liked the interaction with the Bat-family, and jumping ahead ten years seems like it would mess up all the side characters along with the main Gather House arc.
