I'm surprised they're still trucking on with it, the handful of whales they have must be very lucrative for them :money

I mean I've heard it's actually "good" now and has been that way for a year or two.

But this is mostly coming from people that are Bethesda fans in the first place.

So, basically, the conditions for generational change in the video game industry are still not right, but the problem is that we are two+ years into a new generation.

This is the most pointless video game generation ever and these machines are basically functioning as a PS4 Pro+ and XBox One X+.

What is the point of this generation outside of playing previous generation games at a slightly higher fidelity (which the PS4 Pro and XBO-X were already doing)?

Shit, I've been wondering about this. My PS5 shuts itself off every once in a while. I thought it was the HDMI hub, but now it's connected directly to the TV and it still does it. I'll put it horizontal, see if it helps.

The PS5 console uses a liquid metal cooling system for the APU. In most consoles, the APU and its cooling system will be pressed too tightly together for gravity to be a problem, and most of the 30 million PS5 owners will never have this issue. However, in PS5 consoles where the seal has been damaged, the metal can become uneven or even spill over time when the console is stored vertically, affecting the efficiency of the cooling system.

I mean, if the seal is fucked it's probably not great regardless of how the console is positioned.

Ubisoft are really aiming to take EA's crown as the biggest cancer on gaming.

Sister in law bought my kids Just Dance 2023 for Christmas and they finally got around to playing it. Turns out you can't play local multiplayer with your own profiles, only online.

They turned it off and put 2021 back in.

Fuck you Ubishit.

It's probably like MK8, you can choose your user profile for player 1 but the others use "Player #" and don't track your stats.

Which is something Smash got right back on Melee...

Thinking about selling a bunch of games. By now I have
1 generation of SEGA games (MegaDrive, GameGear)
3 generations of Xbox games (360, One|X, Series X)
6 generations of Nintendo console games (NES, SNES, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, Switch)
3 generations of Nintendo handheld games (GBA, DS, 3DS)
physical PC games ('big box' as well as standard DVD cases)

I think I'm going to start selling things I bought just for collecting (SEGA) that has no nostalgic value and then move on to selling games that aren't rare or I also own on other systems.
I have 80 Wii games for example because I used to get review copies. But I'm never going to play shit like Red Steel, Need for Speed Nitro or Sim City Creator again nor will those increase in value.

Certainly didn't want to, but seeing that somehow switch games hold their value for some weird reason and practically never drop in price digitally, it had me up against the ropes....  I hate it.  Then again, I only have 10 physical games, so thank goodness it hasn't taken up much space.  If I could, I would trade it all towards a PSVR2.

For PC I've been all Digital for a while but I still prefer physical games and collectors editions and whatnot for Xbox and Switch.
It's just really all the old stuff that I'll never play again and has little value that I want to get rid off.
Every time a new console gen drops I'm sure I'll hook up my old console again sometime but once they go into the box I never do.

And when I do want to play older games there's Switch Online, GamePass, Steam, NES Classic, SNES Classic and plenty of other options not to mention that most of the bigger games either have sequels or remakes at this point that are superior to the original releases.

Save carries over, but no PC demo and can't save until you beat it after 2 hours in lol. Rest mode for the rescue I guess.

Will try the US PS5 demo tomorrow. Dunno if I'd grab it on PS5 or PC if I do like it.

It felt like a pretty decent turn-based RPG to me from the time I spent with the demo.

I think there's some interest from non-One Piece fans because it looks like a Dragon Quest XI clone.

I never have high expectations for anime games, so idk not expecting a lot but if it's good that's cool. I always thought the One Piece IP would be good for an rpg where you go around the world map doing island arcs, but this seems more like an original story thing with some flashbacks to various arcs from the manga. Just don't know if that will be satisfying.

Tried the One Piece demo. Was fucking terrible. Everything from cutscenes to traversal to battle. Aka, your usual anime game. At least the Dynasty Warrior anime games are usually fun because the DW team knows how to make a fun DW game by now (well outside exceptions..)

I don't get for such a big IP like One Piece why Namco Bandai doesn't just get the B-team of Tales Studio or something to make it. Like someone that knows how to make fun rpgs.

I think this is the one by the support studio that helped out with DQXI, but I don't think they've ever designed/directed anything themselves and it shows.

What was so bad about it?  It felt like a typical JRPG to me, albeit pretty limited in the beginning.

-Cutscene direction was terrible so all of the story bits sucked
-Moving around and traversal feels stiff and bad. They are afraid to just make it feels smooth like a 3d action/platformer game but they're trying to make it more than just a walk forward rpg, so it just comes off as a crappy controlling 3d movement game.
-Battle UI is terrible
-Battles are slow
-Writing was not good (Usopp gets freaked out like 20 times in the demo)
-One Piece character designs and proportions don't work that well with this visual style.
-Music was nothing special.

Don't think there was anything to actual like about the demo besides the shiny graphics. Even then, on PS5 the quality mode feels shitty and performance mode looks soft.

i've gone back to try and finish cyberpunk. some parts i really enjoy (the combat, most of the characterisation) but someone needs to sit down their mission design team and explain to them that being told by an NPC to walk up to a generic interactive element, press F, then wait for the next bit of dialogue before doing it again to a different generic interactive element is not gameplay. it's anti gameplay. it's worse than QTEs.

like i just did a mission where i supposed to set up a sting, i had to turn on a generator, hack a network, break into a lab etc etc. except i didn't do any of those things, i didn't even do a gamified approximation of those things, i just walked up to each thing under instruction and pressed F.

is there anybody who enjoys this shit?

I liked the mission where you're not allowed weapons but the game didn't take into account my gorilla arms.

Dumb casuals. Or at least that's what publishers think - yet something like Elden Ring still was able to become a breakthrough hit. Maybe some developers finally take notice, but probably not, because it's much harder to make real level design, especially in an open world. No wonder idiots from Ubisoft/Sony tried to trash Elden Ring's supposed "bad quest design" after launch. There's no hope for the open world genre. Though it's creeping into other genres too. I remember a presentation of that last shitty Batman game, in which they "explored" a mansion or whatever. Basically, hold your stick towards the glowing footsteps for several minutes, click through a fake puzzle that literally solves itself, get into a button-mashey battle for cheap dopamine when EXP drops afterwards. Yes, this is worse than QTE, it's mobile game design.

Ubisoft did something that worked but when everyone started complaining they stopped doing that and now they're totally in the shitter.
The first XCOM Mario was fun but I never thought it needed a sequel.

AFAIK Skull & Bones is partially funded by some government tax break/subsidies so they can't cancel it outright.

If I had to guess what they cancelled:
- Beyond Good & Evil 2
- Watch Dogs 4 (Legion flopped hard, can't imagine they'll go back to this)
- Mario + Rabbids 3 (they probably intended this to be a trilogy)
- Just Dance 2024 (after abysmal sales of 2023 this franchise is probably dead now)
- Red Steel 2 Remaster (this was a thing)
- Assassin's Creed Remaster (this evolved into Mirage)
- The Crew 3 (with Playground breaking their teeth on Fable I guess Need for Speed wil be top dog for a while lmao)
- Prince of Persia reboot (the remake was part of some effort to reboot POP but the remake is in development hell)

They said these are the big brands they will continue to focus on
Assassin’s Creed
Far Cry
Ghost Recon
Rainbow Six
The Division

It seems to too late to pull the plug on Splinter Cell but I don't think it will be as significant as people think.
My best guess is that they're doing a remake of the first Splinter Cell.

Yves send out a company wide message where he asks the developers to put in their best work and deliver on time/on schedule.

"My best guess is that they're doing a remake of the first Splinter Cell."

This one was already confirmed in 2021. Last year there was some kerfuffle on the more conservative gaming side over a job listing talking about getting new writers to update the story for modern audiences.

What's the point? So they can delay and reboot games together?  :lol

Anyhow, Microsoft is doing a show to focus on:
The Elder Scrolls Online
Forza Motorsport
Minecraft Legends
Redfall

They say a seperate show is in the works for Starfield.
