It's a great low risk high reward thing. Even if he sucks when he comes back, he's completely extra.

They ain't trading Lonzo this year unless its part of the Kawhi deal. He has too much value specifically for them. He's a PG who can still pass but doesn't need to be ball dominant.

Lonzo's biggest value on offense is play making and passing, he can't shoot and I felt like he disappeared back in college when he didn't have the ball in his hands. And now that they've added another non shooting PG in Rondo, I feel like Lonzo's days are numbered.

Lonzo will almost certainly be a much better shooter this season. 38% from 3 or higher is a reasonable expectation.
His shooting almost has to improve, but why is 38% a reasonable expectation? There a ton of examples of players improving drastically from their rookies seasons (Carter, Durant, Nowitzki off the top of my head, but I'm just wondering about that number.

at age 35...

Elton Brand, LaPhonso Ellis and Brandon Jennings are closer to Cousins' age, Brand probably is the best example to look at except he had other injuries iirc that doubled his seasons out of the game.

Ball/Rondo
KCP/Lance Stephenson
Lebron/Ingram
Kuzma/Moritz Wagner
Lopez/Frye/McGee

I guess it comes down to what you think of KCP and Ingram

Yeah when it happened I tried to find all the research I could on players returning from achilles injuries and it's just a really sparse sample size. So it really is a bit of an unknown what to expect.

Not to mention a lot of the talking points that you hear about(or I did), like Lowe mentioning in his pieces about 80-90% never returning to form is a bit misleading. A lot of players are not very good to begin with, so they weren't likely to stay in the league anyways. Since an injury like that is just a big "nope" when it comes to fringe players. So that skews those results.

....Knowing our franchises luck though(or incompetence if you insist), Cousins will have a Dominique Wilkins type recovery.

I mean your contract is partly dependent on your situation and the team and their needs but in the case of Paul versus Lebron it has to do with bird rights and the higher escalators per year. It gets complicated.

Quote
The massive financial implications of Anthony opting into his $27.9 million contract for the 2018-19 season -- coupled with a mutual understanding that his scaled back role isn't what he had signed up for to play with Oklahoma City -- have dictated that the two sides will part ways sometime this summer, league sources told ESPN.

Anthony's agent, Leon Rose of CAA Sports, has a strong relationship and history with Thunder general manager Sam Presti, and they'll work together on Anthony's exit through trade, the NBA's stretch provision, or a combined buyout and stretch, league sources said.

Dwight getting more than originally reported:
Quote
The Brooklyn Nets have finalized a contract buyout with center Dwight Howard, clearing the way for him to sign a two-year, $11 million free-agent deal with the Washington Wizards, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Even Pop wasn't going to pay this much:
Quote
Free-agent guard Tony Parker has agreed to a two-year, $10 million deal with the Charlotte Hornets
Quote
"It's difficult to put into words how important Tony Parker has been to the Spurs franchise over the past two decades," Popovich said in a statement. "From his first game in 2001 at age 19, TP has impressed and inspired us -- day-after-day, game-after-game, season-after-season -- with his passion, dedication and desire. We are grateful to Tony for 17 years of truly amazing memories."
although...
Quote
Tension between Parker and Leonard emerged after Parker said his own quadriceps injury was "100 times worse" than Leonard's. Leonard had been seeking outside treatment and recovering away from the team for most of last season.

Parker ruptured his left quadriceps tendon in the 2016-17 Western Conference finals and now says he is close to 100 percent healed. He returned to the court on Nov. 27 last season after 208 days. His injury was considered more significant than Leonard's, and the team sought advice from the world's best tendon experts for Parker and Leonard.

Parker elected to utilize the Spurs' doctors, and Leonard sought treatment outside of the organization.

"I have no problem with Kawhi Leonard. We never had an argument," Parker told The Undefeated. "When the journalist asked me if my injury was worse than Kawhi's, I said yes because it was true. But that didn't lessen the significance of his injury. He took over the franchise, and I gave up the torch of the franchise willingly. It's very sad that the media took one quote and made it sound like I didn't want to play with him. He was the face of the franchise."
I assume he'll match this:
Quote
Restricted free-agent forward Kyle Anderson has signed a four-year, $37.2 million offer sheet with the Memphis Grizzlies, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

This didn't even last an hour:
Quote
The Chicago Bulls have decided to match the Sacramento Kings' four-year, $78 million offer sheet to restricted free agent Zach LaVine, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The Bulls have 48 hours to match the offer sheet and fully plan to do so before the deadline.

Good sign of just how the market dried up, especially for centers who aren't Jokic:
Quote
Restricted free-agent center Jusuf Nurkic has agreed to a four-year, $48 million deal to stay with the Portland Trail Blazers
The guy he was traded for, Mason Plumlee, got $41 million over three years last summer from Denver. His brother Miles got $50 million over four years the summer before that from the Bucks. Both were 27, Nurkic is 23.

At even odds, are you taking a healthy Warriors team or the 2019 East All-Stars in a seven-game series?

Begley: Warriors. Let's assume that neither Jimmy Butler nor Kawhi Leonard are dealt to an Eastern Conference team, and that Kyrie Irving is healthy. Given those parameters, I'd still have to take the Warriors here because of the way they can space the floor with dead-eye shooters. Also, an important factor that makes this hypothetical tough to answer: chemistry. Unless the core of this East All-Star team had spent the past three seasons playing more than 300 total games together, there's no way they operate with the level of on-court rhythm the Warriors have established.

Forsberg: East All-Stars. Sure, the Warriors have the potential to trot out five All-Stars, but, even in a star-depleted East, the ability to go 13 deep with impact talent would give the East an edge during a seven-game series, but the Warriors would win three games.

Herring: East All-Stars. I don't even know that I have a valid reason for this pick, but it makes me feel better about the state of the league to at least imagine that one conference's All-Stars would be superior to an actual team's starting five. What a world.

MacMullan: Hey now, I love the Warriors as much as anyone, but let's get real. Give me a roster of Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kyrie Irving, Victor Oladipo, Jayson Tatum, DeMar DeRozan, Ben Simmons, John Wall, Jaylen Brown, Blake Griffin, Al Horford, Kevin Love, Bradley Beal, Kemba Walker and Kyle Lowry and I'll take my chances.

Pelton: East All-Stars. While the Warriors would probably have the best two players in such a series, the difference in starting fives isn't dramatic, and the East would have an enormous depth edge with the likes of Bradley Beal and Kyle Lowry coming off the bench.

When speaking to reporters at the Las Vegas Summer League Monday (July 9), Alvin Gentry acknowledged that Anthony Davis played a pivotal role in bringing Julius Randle to the New Orleans Pelicans.

But the Pelicans coach also wanted to dispel a rumor he heard about All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins leaving New Orleans and shockingly signing with the Golden State Warriors:

"Someone said A.D. didn't want DeMarcus back, and that couldn't be further from the truth," Gentry said. "I don't know where that came about, but it couldn't be further from the truth."
Quote
Despite Cousins' claims that the Pelicans didn't want him back, Gentry said the team doesn't have any hard feelings about his decision and they "wish him nothing but the best" with the Warriors.

"He was great for us. Everyone forgets that we won eight out of 10 games before he went down," Gentry said of Cousins. "With free agency, there are so many things that are involved in it. ... I think he was good for us, put up big numbers for us, created a ton of mismatches for our situation.

"I know he'll do well. He's in a great organization now. He's just got to get himself healthy."
Quote
"I think A.D. is becoming the leader of this team," Gentry said. "I think he stepped up big time last year from a leadership standpoint, and I think he'll just continue to get better. I'm not worried about that part of it."

Yeah in a couple of interviews now Gentry seems to have thrown some passive aggressive shade at Demps. It seems clear he is disappointed DeMarcus wasn’t resigned and he wasn’t really consulted on it. Which is a running theme with Demps.

Still think Rondo is going to hurt the worst.

Why would any team trying to win sign Carmelo Anthony in the year of our lord 2018? He doesn't play defense and he can't shoot from deep, and he doesn't rebound. I don't get it.

Also that LeBron billboard is like 4 miles from me, should've gone and saw it! If they wanted to get rid of it easiest way would be have someone put a gang tag on it, then you call the city and report the tag and the whole thing is gone before the end of the day.

Zach Lowe's NBA Off season winners and losers column posits the K N I C K S making a run at Durant next off season. I guess if a team as inept as the Lakers can use their mystique and name brand to lure Lebron, it could work for the Knicks, maybe.

The Atlanta Hawks acquired Brooklyn Nets guard Jeremy Lin in a trade on Thursday night, league sources told ESPN.

Atlanta sends Brooklyn a 2020 second-round pick via Portland and the rights to Isaia Cordinier, league sources said. Cordinier is a 2016 second-round pick who has remained overseas.

The Nets will send the Hawks a 2025 second-round pick and the right to swap picks with the Nets in 2023, league sources said.

The Denver Nuggets agreed to trade forwards Kenneth Faried and Darrell Arthur, a 2019 protected first-round pick and a 2020 second-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets, league sources told ESPN.

The Nuggets acquire guard Isaiah Whitehead in the trade, whom they'll waive, league sources said.

I’m so pissed about that mural. I live right off Venice Blvd and would have loved to go see it. By the time I even found out about it, it was gone.

This means we likely live within ~5 miles of each other.

The Chicago Bulls have signed free-agent forward Jabari Parker, the team announced Saturday.

It's a two-year, $40 million deal, league sources told ESPN.

The agreement was consummated Saturday, moments after Milwaukee Bucks general manager Jon Horst removed the qualifying offer on the restricted free agent and allowed him to become unrestricted.

The Bucks weren't going to match a Bulls offer sheet, and the deal -- brokered with Parker's agent Mark Bartelstein -- allowed a good-faith gesture for Parker to sign a shorter deal with the Bulls.

"We really love Jabari and wanted to work with him on this, because we weren't going to match an offer sheet," Horst told ESPN.

Unfortunately, its easy to envision Isiah out of the league in a few years. I'm surprised he didn't consider overseas this go around.
