Hey people are free to do what they want or what gives them enjoyment. It just strikes me as absurd on so many levels. All the little rules they have created to facilitate this stuff also strike me as absurd. As does the drama when people complain or celebrate about them. Just nuts to me.

There are some OT's that are useful. And it's almost never the ones that extend like a fanboy's wet dream.

Well he denied it when confronted about it and gave an answer similar to yours saying he just happened to be a fan and liked making OTs. However I believe it's known that BruceLeeRoy and another poster named The Chef both work for an internet marketing company and those two happened to make a number of OTs featuring some ridiculous production values that would've taken significant work to make. As well originally the images in one of the OTs were located in a work directory of theirs labelled "clients" which was then changed after someone noticed it. I don't think there's ever going to be a full explanation of what was going on there but there is evidence that BruceLeeRoy and The Chef were receiving compensation for making OTs.

Andrex, you're just wrong mang.  Its a sadness complete when someone admits to losing sleep over this stuff.  Web Design is WORK.  Its amazing how much WORK someone puts into something they'll never receive a paycheck for (bruceleeroy notwithstanding).  It feels like trying to achieve petty validation.    If I ever make one, you'll get a name, a release date/price, some pics, franchise changes (if applicable), and my initial impressions.  Maybe put in stuff about optional dlc/controller setups/etc.  I'm not gonna stay up all night photoshopping banners in the pokemon font or whatever asperger shit is expected.

Well obviously that guy was crazy, not only losing sleep and having a public panic attack on the boards over it but working on it for like 60 days... yeesh. Don't think someone who spends 2 hours on an OT is the same as someone who spends 100s or more.

To cut andrex some slack I go do get that for some people it is fun. And I do believe that some people simply do it as an fun art project in their spare time. I made many iphone threads back in the day on GAF and some of them were long and involved. When you are part of those groups it seems natural and then once you are out of it you say what the hell was I doing.

I just think it often causes a lot of bad habits and at a certain point its no longer about fun but just a testament to how stupid nerds can be.

Only thing that annoys me about those |OT| megathreads is how indignant people get over one that isn't 10+ posts of PR blasting. It's one thing to compile a bunch of useful information at the helm of a (mega)thread, but people seem to need these threads to live up to their internal - always off the charts - hype meter, so they feel justified in their excitement or something. no one even looks at the OP once a thread hits three pages anyway, and the first two are just people nut hugging the thread starter.

I had a chuckle at this. I absolutely hate it when a bunch/most of the info is in images, and this is part of the reason why. Thread looks pretty darn skimpy without them.

Also I have to say I feel Evilore encourages that stuff, from his posts there and in the MGS4 thread.

EL isn't going to knowingly/blatantly let that kind of thing happen.  For all my criticisms of the guy, one thing I will say that as long as it doesn't fall into his own personal blindspots, he tries to keep things honest around there.

That just sort of makes him a dick in my eyes. He runs the site like a billboard for game companies. He has to know that's how the companies see the site. He should at least let the community get in on the take.

That's only part of it and really only for a certain age group. It's just the way people are. Once people spend their money, there is a tendency to overly justify it against all competition. That's whether people are consoles fanboys, pc fanboys, etc.

It's Apple versus Mac. It's Android versus ios. It's certain brand cameras versus other brand cameras (hi skidmark ) It's Democrats versus Republicans.

Video games just seem like the worst expression of it because its one of the most utterly pointless.
