I don't mind having too much musou.  You just get to pick and choose which ones you like.

Koei Tecmo are going OVERBOARD.

Just recently announced Sangoku Musou Versus for 3ds. It's basically Musou Orochi with Dynasty Warriors 7 characters. So, basically an expansion on Samurai Warriors Chronicles? They are making TOO MUCH MUSOU.

In the past year I have bought DW7, DWG3, and I'm going to buy WO3 and One Piece Warriors. If I had a 3ds I'd have Samurai Warriors Chronicles. TOO MUCH MUSOU.

They didn't just announce it...they announced it was delayed a month to use Nintendo's new online service.  Versus' hook is that it's four players playing against one another.

Bebpo doesn't like DW7 because he's a cigarillo.

Biggest tip is have your finger on the weapon change button. ALWAYS. So you can do awesome combos.

I play DW7 like this:

combo -> weapon change string which strings the combo -> combo -> weapon change string -> advanced combo

Usually I can get 30-60 hit combos this way.

See:

Do easy difficulty until you get comfortable, then move up.  The cool thing about DW is you can usually change difficulty per mission so as you level your character and get more powerful you can up the challenge to match it.  Or just massacre everyone on easy with a max level character!

I was playing on Chaos because it said I had to do that to unlock some stuff. Probably won't try that again to start off with.

I thought XL was the same as DW7 with extra characters, like Ultimate MvC3 or whatever, then it tells me "Put your DW7 disc in here to play Story Mode".  OH WELL.

Warriors Orochi 3 will be a download-only title for PS3:

Quote
Tecmo Koei's upcoming myth-based hack-n-slash action title, Warriors Orochi 3, will be launching for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next month, in North America on March 20 and in Europe on March 30. The game will be a full-price retail title on 360, but thanks to a little-known quirk in Sony's localization regulations, it will only be available on the PlayStation Network -- not on a Blu-ray Disc.

The voice acting in Warriors Orochi 3 hasn't been localized into English: the audio for the entire game is in Japanese, with English subtitles. Sean Corcoran, Marketing Manager for Tecmo Koei America, told me last week that Sony doesn't allow games without English voice acting to be released in the West on retail discs. So PS3 owners will have to buy the game on the PlayStation Store; Corcoran said that the download will cost less than $59.99, but Tecmo Koei hasn't yet decided how much less.

Just played the demo for DW Next and woaaaaah is it pretty rad.  Feels so much better playing than the 20fps 3DS launch musou.  Very smooth and was doing all kinds of awesome combos.  Looks great too.

Shame about all the silly touch stuff for stage boss fights.  Otherwise it seems like a great portable musou.  Might pick up the full game.

Was going to say 'but 7XL had a retail release' except that was multilingual. What a bizarre, stupid regulatory rule. I guess now the PS3 kids have something to be annoyed by. Physical release on both formats in the EU per https://twitter.com/#!/inspchin/status/170254614145413120 So if PS3 folks really want a disc they can import.

To be fair I haven't tried the game since the patch dropped (displays more enemies on screen), as it this point I'm done with the J-version and am waiting for the U.S. version next week, but while DW Next is fun, the touch screen crap brings it down and it does not have the large maps and HUGE number of enemies present that DW7 has, particularly when looking at the DLC stages.

But it is hands-down the best portable Musou yet.

Smaller maps is a plus for me.  I like my maps DWG3 size where you can get around them super quick and you're always in the action.  Don't want to be riding riding riding to the next combat point.  I mean what's the point of musou when you're not slashing dudes?

Enemy count seemed pretty good to me, but yeah it might've been less than DW7.

What I really want after playing the NEXT demo is DWG3 PORTABLE.  Get that on Vita and 60fps and holyyyy shit will I put 100 hours in.

There are still parts where nothing is going on and you're riding to the next combat point.  And there are also these ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzz levels where you're on horseback and have to get one from end of the map to the other, avoiding obstacles, while a timer counts down.

I was so impressed with one of the DW7 bonus stages I played...it was not only a huge map, but it was absolutely filled to the brim with shitloads and shitloads of enemies.  There's nothing even remotely close to that in Next, but again, despite its shortcomings (touchscreen crap...especially boss fights) it's still awesome.

I love DW7's huge maps. DWG3's maps suck and are boring. There's not much tension when you can get to a base in 5 seconds to protect it.

I prefer DWG1's maps. DwG3 has the benefit of having a very strategic system, but the map repitition makes the game sometimes become one dimensional. One of the reasons I prefer story mode in DW7 is that the campaigns are long and you make full use of the maps, from flooding gates to making surprise attacks to goin through mazes before your ally gets defeated. In conquest mode it's so simplistic and you can usually beat a map in like 3 minutes. There is no tension at all.

Musou without tension is boring. I love having to assist my allies before they die when I'm halfway actress the map and having to deal with surprise attacks.

Not that DWG3 style isn't great, but I prefer bigger maps. They tend to bring out the personality of the games more.

the demo had you tapping to block, like all those little bubbles on screen.  and at one point it said swipe, but I don't know if that was attack or defend.  and even though my character was attacking, the game tells me there's an opening once I stopped the enemy's attack? it's confusing

It's really good shit, wish the touch-boss-battles weren't there but I can deal with them.  At least you get to retry from that point if you lose.

I played through almost all of the story mode in the J-version; gonna try to run through to get back to where I was quick since I doubt the J-save will work.

Just to note, you receive more custom parts and fighting styles as you go through story mode.  Love the bomb-throwing style.

Looks like I'll have the game tomorrow.

I've only read the first volume or two of One Piece and have watched a chunk of the series (around 2006-2007 when it was airing), plus seen some of the movies.  I have a feeling I might be a little lost with some of the characters.  I know the main cast but everyone else is just  ??? to me.

Played this for a bit yesterday.

The main story mode definitely is more along the lines of Hokuto Musou, in that you're not on huge maps, but more linear Sengoku Basara style stages, beating up waves of enemies. There's also platforming sections where Luffy uses his stretch abilities to jump/fly around levels with large amounts of water.

The game looks great, but has frame rate issues. It's kind of disappointing when the in-game cut scenes look beautiful, then the action starts and the frame rate feels like it's going at half the speed.

Got mine today.  Game seems really good.

The combat seems like the most advanced ever in a musou game.  The characters have large movelists and not just [][][][][] with a triangle attack at the end.  You get stuff like []/\[] or /\/\[]/\, so lots of canned combos + your musou attacks + an assignable super attack to R1 that you can change mid-gameplay with the d-pad left/right + partner attacks on L2.  It's not Devil May Cry but for a musou game it seems to have good combat depth.

The stages are nice and long and feel like a full anime episode each.  Great cutscenes, fun mini-game/platforming segments, God of War/Asura's Wrath style QTE's mid-battle or mid-stage; sometimes it switches which character you're controlling to re-enact how it played out in the manga.  Overall seems to be throwing some good variety at you.

Then there's also a bog standard musou mode based on every environment where you can take any character in and beat dudes up while leveling.  All the bosses have a unique dialogue depending on the character you're controlling.  The more in-depth move lists + stuff like that makes the smaller cast list a lot more ok.

I agree with Lyte though that the only really negative is the framerate.  It's not bad, and always above 30fps.  But it's annoying that it's 60fps and looks really really good and then drops all the time in an unstable framerate.

Still, lots of fun, lots of fanservice and in the end it's MUSOU.

Will play more over the weekend!

Luffy plays so well, but that kind of makes sense since this is one of the first musou games where you have a "main" character that you're going to be using most of the time (guess Hokuto was like that too, but didn't play Hokuto much; was slow).  Zoro is a solid sword fighter and Nami has a lot of traps but her physical game is pretty no-range bad at the start.

Hokuto Musou has individual story modes for five characters (Ken, Rei, Mamiya, Toki, and Raoh), although Ken's is way, way bigger than the others'.

I think Kaizoku Musou may be the first Musou game to have a single story mode where you play as this small an amount of characters, but it's okay, because as Bebpo said they all seem to have a nice amount of moves.

Bebpo, Hokuto Musou isn't slow...it's Kenshiro.  He plays that way for whatever reason...other characters do not.  As you level him up, Ken does get better.  I ended up liking Mamiya the best in that game...found her crossbow to be the most effective.  You can just keep blasting enemies from long range before they even get to you!   :lol

Picked up Warriors Orochi 3.  Left the PS3 doing the 11gig download.

First WO game, hope it's the Marvel v Capcom of DW!

Musou backlog is now:
-One Piece Musou
-Fist of the North Star Musou
-Dynasty Warriors 7
-Warriors Orochi 3

I'm probably set with musou for a long time  :lol

WO games are even better than that implies

Just played WO3 for a bit.  Pretty fun!  Probably the most fun off the bat Musou I've played besides DWG3.

Sima Zhao is COOL BRO

Wait until you get Ryu and Ayane.  They are so damn good.
