As I understand it, WoD took tanks in more of a "be proactively helping your own survivability and your healer's ability to keep you alive" direction and away from sheer high threat DPS. Which is part of why so many Heroic tanks were so bad early on. Granted that's probably less fun than high threat DPS.

Clash was removed for PvP reasons I guess? WoW's troubled history of balancing PvE and PvP is a long long affair.

Dungeons are totally baby mode and throwaway until about L40ish

The daily dungeon roulette is fantastic xp though. Do it every day.

...why would you swap jobs to blacksmith in a situation were you're likely to be attacked by a monster? You do that when you're safe inside a sanctuary. :lol

Are you using gear sets? You can preregister entire gear setups for different classes so all it takes to swap between them is like 2-3 clicks.

Crafting is its own particular metagame rabbit hole. If you aren't particularly interested in crafting per se, the biggest park is that it allows you to repair your own gear of that type up to 10 levels higher than your crafter level, and when you do so, you can make the condition of your equipment go up to 199% instead of 100%.

Ifrit is the most boring of the primals and has the most zzz music (the only one done by Uematsu and not Soken), but he has one of my favorite arenas. The classic ring of fire can't be beat (plus how the fire's lighting reflects on everyone).

I don't know what to do about my retainers now that I'll be leveling MCH. I don't think you can have an MCH retainer since it's a job and not a class.

How am I supposed to get free endgame gear now?  :'(

I don't use the chocobo dudes anymore cause i just teleport everywhere, but they were distinguished mentally-challenged. The maps are also set up poorly, I agree. Each little city area won't show the name if you hover over it, just says like "Encampment" or something like that.

I figure they just let you teleport in the city since you can't ride your mount there so you need some way to get around quickly. I like Limsa cause the two places I need are right next to teleport spots. Hawker's Alley for market board, mender, and summoning bell & Aftcastle for Maelstrom stuff and guild bank. I don't really go anywhere else in the city that I can think of.

at the very least, his beef with the quests and skills in dungeons are on point imo.

when the game first released, i ended up maxing out my culinarian before my main battle class because of the copious filler quests in the main questline. the pacing in the expansion isn't nearly as bad, though the side quests are as shit as they've ever been. thank goodness for instant healer queues, whew.

on another note, i'm so fucking ready for alexander after seeing ravana extreme.

Sunblade suckered me into starting FF14 a few weeks ago.  It's... really good.  Better than I expected.  I finished the 2.0 content before Early Access for HW started, and did the 2.1-2.5 content during Early Access.  Almost to level 60 NIN now; just halfway through Lv 59.

I'm in for the long haul at this rate, brehs.  :stahp

THIS IS ALL SUNBLADE'S FAULT >:(
I used to spend my nights reading books, and now I'm just playing FF14 with him and his gang. ;~;

Also the Defiance skill is great for warrior. Increase in HP and threat, while lowering damage. It's basically defensive stance for warriors in WoW. Except you can turn it off. Which allows me to actually do damage when playing alone. Why couldn't WoW do it so fucking simple? Unbelievable.

During level 50-60, you get a straight up DPS stance (Deliverance) along with a new attack that can often let you do more damage than proper DPS. And the stacks from Defiance turn into the ones for Deliverance and vice versa when you swap between them.

Warrior is insane.

Finished Heavensward with Sunblade and a few people from our FC/LS.  What a damn good final boss.  I had a blast, and every subsequent time I do it, I feel like it needs a Hard Mode.  Last run I did with it was with a Dragoon who refused to dodge the AoEs, though.

Now I'm just grinding for Law and levelling up some of my other classes.  Might stick with DPS roles in general cuz I don't think I'd have the patience to tank and I get anxious too much to even consider doing it.  Might try my hand at healing stuff, too, but I've never liked casting classes very much.

So yeah, glad Sunblade suckered me into playing the game after all.  Part of me feels like I rushed it in order to actually be able to /talk/ about it which may or may not bode very well for me.  ARR took me free trial period + early access time, and Heavensward took me a week or so (so I actually finished ARR + Heavensward mostly within my free trial + free sub time since my paid sub only kicked in yesterday when I beat the game).  It's a good game.  I think the grindy shit and some of the fetch quests are crap, but that's more in part due to my bias against that stuff in RPGs in general.

The music was SUPER-GOOD.  Dude should compose for a mainline offline FF because those tracks are amazing.

Beat Alexander within hours of it going live. Was really fun, was more forgiving than the original Binding Coil was, but still demands more than the super casual 24 man raid. Pretty "simple" fights where they grow significantly easier to do once you know the dance steps and how to move accordingly.

The fourth floor fight is definitely where the gloves come off though. It took us the same amount of time we used to clear the Fist, Cuff and Arm combined to figure out how to properly clear it and eek out a win.

I have 3 active shells and an FC. I constantly have people running shit or asking to run things.
Yeah there's a metric fuckton to do at endgame/50/60, what level are you now?
First job 1-50 is pretty ass since all you do is main story quest and 3 main 2.0 patch contents are gated behind it on top of coil, CT, expac content.

I didn't make it to 60 in time for Alex first day.

With the exception of floor 4, I think Alexander is as tough as your standard leveling dungeons.

Farming this for tokens will be a snorefest with df groups. I feel like going from this to fighting the same bosses with remixed mechanics in Savage mode is gonna wear on me really quick.

I'll come back if it's f2p. No way I'm paying for old ass content recycled nonstop. Also I haven't heard anything interesting or good about the WoD raids.

WoW's raids started dying when Tigole and gang left for Titan around mid Wrath.

There's now a triumvirate leading WoW's direction that all have differing (shitty) opinions, but the general consensus amongst them is that raiding was/is the ultimate form of MMO content and so everything post leveling / the first month or so of the expansion should be raids or related to raiding. They also have a really passive aggressive attitude towards LFR that's not doing their subscription numbers any favors.

They're doubling down on the failed gimmicks of Draenor with the artifacts, class halls, etc. when what they really need is more content more often. Raids yes, but also dungeons, scenarios, whatever. Take a hint from XIV and other MMOs that are doing a much better job of supporting content, but most importantly small group content. That should have been the natural evolution of MMO grouping as communities became smaller and interactions less interactive, but instead Blizzard holds onto large groups. There's some hubris issues they need to sort out.

Wait for Crowfall.

(Image removed from quote.)

PVP focused :beli
GW2 combat :beli

GW2 shade aside, I will admit I'm tempted now that it's free and getting raids. I'll definitely be watching streams to see how it's implemented, which good ideas are taken from WoW and other MMOs, etc. Personally I long for raids where each player gets to bring a specific skill to the table, and raid encounters don't revolve around groups staying together/focusing on the same target.

From a tank perspective I always enjoyed fights that allowed me to demonstrate my skill. A lot of WoW raid fights basically boil down to a MT handling the boss and the OT handling ads. I loved OT duties, even if being MT was the more prestigious role, simply because it allowed me to put on a tanking clinic for all to see. Anybody can MT a singular boss, that shit is easy. Give me 10 mobs with differing abilities which I have to kite, tank, flee from, etc.

With respect to GW2 and MMOs in the future, I'd love to see fights where every member of the raid had to be up to snuff. Not just in terms of "my dps is x and I don't stand in fire," I'm talking about actually doing shit. Same with healers. A lot of healers are great, don't waste heals etc etc but plenty get by with spamming and other shit. Give them something to do as well, even if it means overall raid damage taken is lower in order to free up healers.

Wildstar exposed a ton of raiders by doing this. Before the 40 man raid was downsized, there was only one guild in the world that was actually able to clear it, due to how many possible ways there were for individuals to basically wipe the entire raid group. Here's one of their members explaining how the raiding feels:

The prospect of 4-6 raids no longer appeals to me but I definitely like what he's describing. I remember plenty of raids where I'd dps with my alt...I wasn't good but had pretty good dps and didn't stand in bad stuff. That and being able to pop Heroism when told to by the raid leader=good raider. That's all it took.

Yes I've raided with great hunters who strategically pull aggro or kite elite mobs during raids, or rogues who do amazing shit. I'm not saying there is no skill in WoW raiding. Just that overall you can get by with being average as fuck or even subpar as long as you have good gear. That's boring to me.

It also leads to guild drama in my experience. We always had a few dps who were elite, but the group would be rounded out by some pretty average folks. Yet they'd always get to come to raids, even if other people were equal to them. So every raid night the people who couldn't come would be pissed or looking to join someone else's raid. IMO there would be far less drama if more skill was demanded instead of gear. Can't raid? Get better. When I first started tanking raids I'd sometimes be left on the sidelines because a better tank was available. That shit made me get better. Whereas if I was dps I could say hey I do the exact same dps as him, why am I being left out.

The only issue I had with the movement mechanics is that double jumping with a lot of downward momentum doesn't give you a whole lot of extra air time. I had some initial discomfort with it in the beginning, but it wasn't particularly difficult to get used to. And yes, I did raid for several hours!!!

I think if it had GW2 movement with the added double jump, it would be perfect.

My XIV FC basically all bounced. I'm left with an M sized house and I own the group now (master ownership of the FC and home defaulted to me). My raiding LS is on hold for the summer since we don't give enough of a fuck right now. Just been pissing around on it, mostly doing other shit.
