GW2 combat

GW2 shade aside, I will admit I'm tempted now that it's free and getting raids. I'll definitely be watching streams to see how it's implemented, which good ideas are taken from WoW and other MMOs, etc. Personally I long for raids where each player gets to bring a specific skill to the table, and raid encounters don't revolve around groups staying together/focusing on the same target.
From a tank perspective I always enjoyed fights that allowed me to demonstrate my skill. A lot of WoW raid fights basically boil down to a MT handling the boss and the OT handling ads. I loved OT duties, even if being MT was the more prestigious role, simply because it allowed me to put on a tanking clinic for all to see. Anybody can MT a singular boss, that shit is easy. Give me 10 mobs with differing abilities which I have to kite, tank, flee from, etc.
With respect to GW2 and MMOs in the future, I'd love to see fights where every member of the raid had to be up to snuff. Not just in terms of "my dps is x and I don't stand in fire," I'm talking about actually doing shit. Same with healers. A lot of healers are great, don't waste heals etc etc but plenty get by with spamming and other shit. Give them something to do as well, even if it means overall raid damage taken is lower in order to free up healers.
