I don't want to be too sympathetic to Morales here. For one thing the guy got two terms in, was a popular president, presided over a large economic boom that genuinely funneled extraction profits into general development and large standard of living increases for most people, and kicked USAID and NED out, so his time in office was pretty consequential. Secondly, he nearly won this election in the first round (and imo he did win it), but made it controversial for no reason because he wanted to avoid a runoff. Now there's violence everywhere, politicians are being run out of their towns, and he's fleeing the country. Complete fuckup that didn't have to happen.
Yup, he overplayed his hand Maduro style but in this case it didn't work.
I never understand why Presidents insist on more than 2 terms. After 2 terms everyone is getting sick of your shit and wants someone else on the TV broadcast.
Had he done 2 terms and resigned, people would've considered him a good leader. Now his legacy is fleeing his country after rigging an election.
Same with Putin, Merkel and Bibi.
Merkel would've been the respected Mutti Merkel who made Germany 'recession proof', not the crazy old hag shaking uncontrollably when listening to the anthem.
Bibi the one that brought safety and security with the Iron Dome and set the stage for new peace negotiations.
Putin the President that brought Russia back from the brink but didn't turn his back on democracy and the west.
At some point like every other eternal leader he'll die a lonesome and senile death in the Kremlin or he'll get strung up on the balcony.
