Kenichiro Takaki: “The biggest reason was the change in restrictions for depicting sexuality in video games, which has been a topic since sometime last year. Up until now there’s been parts that changed here and there, but as of late it’s been ‘Can’t do that, or that, and probably not that either,’ and basically everything is no good. I never imagined leaving Marvelous, or even changing the style of my work, but due to a certain timing last year, I felt as though some kind of string inside me just snapped.
...
Sexual stuff will always get criticized one way or another, but there are just so many people that enjoy and support it. It might’ve looked like I was always doing whatever absurd thing I wanted for Senran Kagura, but I cared about it in my own way, and regularly consulted with the parties concerned up until now. It’s like being told you’re barely out when everything is basically safe. It’s a title I started with the thought of ‘It’s okay to have a game like this’ even if it meant not getting the general support. I used to think that having such a variation was part of what made the whole game industry attractive, but to think how easily it could be destroyed… it got me thinking about all kinds of stuff.”
...
I fully support restrictions that are made to protect certain genres or surroundings. However, the way it is trending now just feels like it is happening with the purpose of shutting things down. Coming up with ideas that make the best out of what we’re given is something I’m good at and enjoy doing, but currently we have big problems, especially for the numbered titles, like can we really call this Senran Kagura under these conditions, or will the fans even want this, and so on.”
When looking at the whole thing, in reality it’s only about 10% or 20% of the elements that are actually different, and there are parts that stand out, but in spite of that when looking at it in terms of worldwide standards it gets judged as ‘everything is sexual’ and that’s what really hurts."
The underlined in particular is exactly how it feels right now. Sick and tired of this SJW shit- in the 90s, you had far-right zealots trying to get violent video games banned. This at least led to the creation of a ratings system and in the end, nothing happened to the games. Now we have far-left(?) zealots trying to get anything with a hint of 'sexuality' removed from video games and the question is...why? These games are being rated appropriately. Keep them away from minors and let adults decide for themselves what they want or do not want to buy.
I was playing the latest Mortal Kombat 11 beta and was looking up stuff about it last night- the character designer was saying how "nobody would fight in a bikini and it's not practical" or whatever and covered up all the female characters. Meanwhile you still have them wearing high heels (lol) and it's totally OK for male character Kotal Kahn to be fighting half-nekkid. And the violence has been upped to the point where the fatalities are...dare I say it...GROSS. It's pretty disgusting.
I don’t think the female costumes in the past were good. 9/10 they looked sexy. I like to play female characters. Guess what Bork. I want my character to look cool, not sexy. Sexy is fine and it’s possible to look cool and sexy, but for the most part the girls 99% of the time were FAR more sexed up than the men. They now look cool and 100% improved. But please clutch your pearls.
It's perspective. It depends on what your definition of "cool" is. Some also think that "sexy"
is "cool."
It’s okay to like pantsu like you do. The problem is that you lack the self awareness to realize that in many cases, such as mortal kombat, outside of the rare ugly female character (sheeva) they gave the female characters far less cool designs and focused on making them sexy.
Was with you right up until this. If we're going to focus on MK here:
It’s the difference between this.
(Image removed from quote.)
Sexy. (She’s even in a sexy pose and looks fucking ridiculous)
And this.
(Image removed from quote.)
Cool.
MK11 Jade is a 100% improvement and you’d have to be an otaku brained troglodyte not to see it.
Opinion. Also I like the Jade design anyway (well, the human variant more so than the nasty zombie look, but whatever). The backlash against MK11 is the fact that when you look at the female character designs, they're all pretty much covered up (except for that new character whose name escapes me at the moment) and proportionally toned down. The guys all remain the same.
You have the character designer saying "You’re not going to wear a bikini to a fight. You’re not going to be showing so much skin. I think it’s just what the game is about: You’re going in to fight for your life, and you’re not going to be wearing such scantily clad items."
OK. Then why is Kano here shirtless and way more exposed than Cassie? And why is Cassie Cage even all armored up like that? Looks like a Mass Effect character, not an MK character,
And yet, despite this line, there are also female characters in the game fighting in high heels. Definitely
very practical. Definitely what to wear in "the fight for your life."
Meanwhile, nobody bats an eye over the violence and gore being turned UP to disgusting levels. Just get outraged over some tits, brehs.
The only reason you have a problem with this is you want women to be more sexed up. That’s why you’re in this thread.
I like and enjoy lewd shit, sure. Doesn't mean I want women to be more sexed up.
You are not a neutral party. You’re biased toward sexy shit. You crave sexy shit. So of course you’ll get mad when they make the characters less sexy and more cool. As if there’s anything wrong with that while blaming sjws.
What's "cool" to you is not "cool" to everyone else. You are not a neutral party here either. Regardless, this is 100% SJW shit going on here. By the way- I think that MK9 was absolutely RIDICULOUS and had embarrassingly-bad designs for most of the females (except for Mileena- that default outfit is pretty cool in a "crazy psycho slut" way. Fits the character). Mortal Kombat X was a good balance. MK11 toned it all down too much.
I won't defend sjws but I’m glad the push back is happening. So many games that featured women sexed them up unnecessarily for decades. Now they look cool and not embarrassing. Hopefully this happens in jrpgs next. Pantsu and moe catering to otaku like you has ruined the genre. Leave that otaku shit in its own Marvelous bubble please. Can’t wait for the day otaku pandering is less mainstream and is in its own little laughed at corner again.
I'm barely an RPG guy- leave me out of that. The abundance of pantsu and moe stuff is because it sells, however. It's as plain as that. If people hated it, all those games would have bombed and have been buried years ago.
It’s ok to be an otaku so long as you realize it’s shameful in the end. That should be the end goal here for everyone tbh.
Nope, there's nothing wrong with liking 'sexy' or pervy shit. If that makes you a perv, as in causes social issues outside of dumb video games...then that is a problem. But I don't care about this puritanical crap. I'm an adult and I don't need other people dictating what I can or cannot buy or even talk about (reeee). That's where I have a problem with this.
