Doggo deaths are literally the worst deaths :mjcry

It's hard for me to even say much about it without feeling horrible.   :(  I just try to think that we give them the best life we can and hope they're happy.

Pretty upset. My cousin's kid, only three years old and he has stage 4 cancer - it's metastasized to other parts of his body and he might need marrow and stem cell transplants. They just found out this month. His parents are having to take leave from work for a year to support him, they set up a GoFundMe page to get help from the rest of the family but it's just? How can you deal with something like this during a pandemic? His wife is pregnant with a second too. It's fucked up too since that cousin was one of the few people in my family to actually escape poverty in the third world and get a good job and he still gets crushed by life.
Yeah, this kind of thing is why I feel like Stephen Fry has a sadly accurate grasp on life:

Well I was involved in a car accident a few months ago which in no way did I think was my fault. And now Enterprise says it was my fault and wants 4,000 something for an accident that wasn't my fault. Great.
Lawyer up if you haven’t already.
Were you the renter? Did you have ANY applicable insurance? You can’t even leave their lot unless you have your own liability coverage OR take their “insurance” (it is not considered personal coverage).

My mom, sister and me put down the family dog today. He was about 14-15, so more than half of my life. He started out as my older sister's dog, before staying with my mom, and then since I moved back with my parent's a year and a half ago he's spent pretty much all his time with me (and my other dog, Sasha.)

(Image removed from quote.)

(Image removed from quote.)

(Image removed from quote.)

My sisters and niece came over last night and I did a Google Photos presentation stretching back 10 years. (Started uploading to Picasa back in 2010, and all my photos are still right where they should be 10 years later, which is cool.)

(Image removed from quote.)

I held his paw and felt his heartbeat fade. I'm a wreck. I've had a constant headache from crying the past three days after we made the decision. But now it's over at least.

(Image removed from quote.)

Will be burying him on the family farm near our other deceased pets, and no disrespect to them and their marker-less graves, but he's getting a bigass cross and visits every day.

(Image removed from quote.)

RIP Grendel, 2005 - 2020

You made me cry, you big jerk.

But I hope you’re feeling better. Losing a dog is the worst. They are one of the best parts of life. So loving.

My sister's dog was put down today, he still had some good days but it was time. A tumor deep in his nose was causing lots of swelling, nose bleeds and obvious pain. Surgery wasn't really an option and pain killers could only help so much. They made sure his last days were the best possible.

RIP bestest boy :'( I keep bursting into tears :(

So I have been getting sicker and sicker and sicker during the lockdown. Swollen armpits, fatigue, dizzy, hot flashes   (no fever), my fucking arm started tingling for like a week, sore throat, shit loads of mucus in my throat, swollen throat, difficultly breathing.

Went to the doc a couple times, they thought it might be allergies since this is my first spring/summer in the south and I’m around all of this new vegetation. I thought maybe it is this rotting tooth I had to postpone getting taken care of because of COVID. Dentist said highly unlikely. I thought maybe I was dying, this armpit pain was no joke.

Turns out it was the weed vape I had been blasting this lockdown away with. I have been indulging at a very high level these past two months. Once I ran out I was seriously fine after two days lol.

I’m relieved it was just me poisoning myself and not some actual illness. The thing is I have been vaping nicotine for years (used to chain smoke) so it didn’t even occur to me that it was these fucking vape pens.

The thing that sucks is that they were awesome and cheap and I loved them. Be careful out there!

There's something odd about the weed vapes. Didn't a few people get lung damage and die one or two years ago?

Probably best to just stick with edibles or smoke it like a caveman.

There was a big outbreak of lung disease and deaths about 6 months ago and after looking into it yesterday it seems like it’s quietly still going on to a lesser extent.

so i finally decided to apply for citizenship back in december, and initially things looked pretty good. i almost immediately got a date for my biometrics and that went pretty smoothly. but then i hadn't heard again from USCIS since january. today i log into my account, and i finally get an update: that my naturalization process will completed by...January. which means i won't be able to vote against that orange turd and his downballot minions this november.

one of my biggest mistakes was not applying for citizenship when obummer was in charge. for comparison, my mom got her citizenship in three months. but hey, i had no good reason not to do that, so it's all on me. i guess i could take this as a learning experience: don't procrastinate doing something under a democrat president that will make it much more difficult under a republican one :usacry

sigh. well, it seems like my little healing victory was very short lived. looks like i'm back to being in pain again. :(

but it's also really weird. it's been jumping all over the different joints in my finger. back in january/february, i was feeling most of my pain in the top joint, which the doctor said was being caused by the arthritis i mentioned. around april or may, that pain migrated to the bottom joint (this one may be possible due to my own fuckery  :doge). and now, for some reason, it's mostly on the middle joint.  it's also weird because i can still do certain things that i wasn't able to do before the cortisone shot, like the rubber band stretches.

but either way, looks like i gotta pay another trip to the doctor. it sucks cause despite all the corona bullshit, i was legitimately the happiest i've been in nearly 2 years :fbm

It’s really fucked up how employers can legally shout you down and not hear your complaints or respect you at all as long as you’re not part of a protected class. I really don’t know what to do. I can’t find other work right now that will pay enough, I have spent most of the day hiding out somewhere trying not to cry. HR is virtually nonexistent, I have never met or talked to anyone in HR, no trust that I would be taken seriously. It’s untenable but right now it’s required to keep a roof over my head and my family fed. Dark thoughts all day today.

Your employer is purposefully trying to abuse you until you quit. Do not break. Hang in there.

100% he is. Mostly because he doesn’t have the fortitude to fire me more so than trying to avoid the unemployment claim, I suspect

They’re doing a bare minimum of distancing and everyone is wearing masks but only because I convinced them to, no policy for it. We’re technically not open to the public (despite doing will calls and receiving things all day) so most the requirements from the gov don’t apply

when i went to the doc's last week, he gave me this somewhat newish experimental treatment called 'shockwave therapy'. i'm supposed to do 3 treatments, each one week apart. i was a little skeptical at first, since i didn't feel much different for the first 2-3 days (and arguably even worse at points   :brazilcry ) but these past few days....the pain seems to have gone down quite a bit.

i'm a little conflicted cause i'm willing to continue if it's working, but i also don't know if this is just like some kind of placebo effect. it's mainly cause the treatments are pretty pricey ($300 per treatment).

what do you guys think?

Just getting worn down day by day. They canned my mentor, made my team lead my boss. My boss quit three months after that. I just keep getting more and more responsibility. Teaching, demos, presentations. Leading the ad hoc work. Fixing other people's work. On top of that I'm doing almost all the technical design while my coworker with a decade plus of age and experience on me just chills and does nothing. Meanwhile the standard for my day to day work is to basically one up cutting edge silicon valley vendors every day. I manage the project, I do all the technical work, I do the scoping and qa. If what I submit isn't good enough after all that isn't good enough then I get told I'm not making adequate progress or my ideas aren't cutting edge enough. I don't know anything about project management. I can barely do the technical work to the standard they like. They tell me I'm doing a good job but every day feels like sisyphean failure and my brains melting. The worst thing is when I produce work and I present it to my now current boss, and he and another team lead crush the stuff I serve up unless it's absolutely at the limit of what I'm "good enough" to make. I can't let my standard of quality for work drop at all or I get torn down in front of witnesses.

Dude that sucks. If you need any advice PM me. I've been there, and have had employees that have been there. So I get it.

Esch... get that coworker to take some work off your plate.

It's a great setup right now where he does the technical work he's assigned but now nobody is assigning the work and nobody has been for months. So I just end up doing all the research and testing myself. The good thing is that I've done the research, early next week I'm calling him up and demanding he execute on some of my dozens of ideas. I already did the gap analysis too so he just needs to do the work, test and deploy. If he says no or takes his time I'm just going to make it painfully obvious to my boss that me and one guy do everything next time I get owned.

I'm gonna be blunt, I feel like your bosses aren't going to do shit for you unless you manage to do some 10X super developer bullshit that completely blows up the industry. Because then they might, just possibly, consider supporting you over another employee who's been on the payroll longer. I feel like a lot of the big, stagnant companies get insecure about the idea that a relatively new employee would be able to outdo somebody who's been in their organization for a long time. This story just stings me because it sounds so familiar.

And here's the thing, if through time and effort you get to that point where you have the ideas and skills to do some uniquely amazing work, do you really want to do it on behalf of this organization?

With all that said, maybe I'm an idiot jumping to conclusions and somebody with a bit more nuanced understanding of these situations will want to jump in and stop you from going all Jerry Maguire.

Man get some self-worth.  At least ask for bitcoin for a wet job.   Also, I'll give you a like if he dies.

Had to put my 16 year old lab down yesterday. She'd been with us since she was a pup and I was hoping she would hold out a little longer, but she just got to a point where she couldn't even walk anymore.
It's hard enough to put a dog down but having kids when you do it is way harder. Poor wife is devastated, she was the one that picked her out from the litter. :fbm
