Million Arthur: Arcana Blood (PS4) released under the looming shadow of Smash Ultimate last week. I wasn't going to import this, but someone who worked on the game said recently that there were no plans to localize it, so I went ahead and ordered it.
MAAB is, as the name might suggest, a 2D fighting game from the same people behind the Arcana Heart series and Nitroplus Blasterz, based on Square Enix's Million Arthur franchise that I know absolutely nothing about. This game also has Iori Yagami from KOF as a guest character and Lise from Seiken Densetsu 3, because hey Square I guess. I also read that two characters are from Han-Gyaku-Sei Million Arthur and Lord of Vermillion IV, and that means nothing to me because I don't know a thing about them!
Anyway, MAAB is both A) Arcana Team's best-looking 2D fighter to date, with a super, super clean look, and B) a pretty fun little fighter. There's only 13 characters to play as, but there's also 31 support characters and these can be selected in teams of three and called out during battle to act as additional special moved and for use in combos. Akira Oono from High Score Girl (hey, I know that one!) is also a guest support character.
So, the game looks nice and plays pretty well...so what's the problem? Nothing if you're gonna play with some buddies locally who might want to check it out. But this is a virtually-unknown fighting game that is probably not going to sell very well and that nobody is going to play online, and that kind of sucks, but it's understandable. Maybe it will find a niche fanbase. I found a video of it being played in a 'Murican tournament recently!
