Kotaku: Anime Feminist Wants To Get Real About Fan Service

THERE BE GOLD IN THIS HERE THREAD

Why is there more fan service than before?  That's due to the decline of anime popularity/merchandising.  The otaku crowd are the ones still providing revenue to these companies and they like their fan service.  This has been known for like the past decade now.

But keep on whining and complaining...it's pointless.  Whether you're disgusted by perverted anime tropes or fapping all over them, it doesn't matter-- it's a cultural thing and until the Japanese decide that something needs to change, nothing will.

D’Anastasio: So, do you feel comfortable evaluating a Japanese cultural product through a Western feminist lens?

Cook: I feel very comfortable. Anime fandom has a cultural resistance to critique that I don’t really understand. I have a degree in Japanese studies. I speak Japanese. I understand Japanese. Much of the staff has lived in the country.

You know that most of these guys complaining on gaf about the misogyny of Anime fanservice are totally like "OMG Senpai, I can see her pantsu and it makes my heart go doki doki desu desu!" while they hug their waifu pillows in private while watching bible black.

If you want to go make a difference go buy the types of anime you want to see and encourage your friends to do so as well. Completely hilarious how a bunch of mostly freeloaders want to dictate what they see when the only people paying are the oily skinned neck beards of the east

Sony has advised players to block windows, turn off interfering lights, and remove mirrors. They are well aware of that there are tracking issues with the devise. You basically have to have a dedicated room for these VR toys.

So, a mysterious pop-under script appears on GAF, the next day the website goes down for unscheduled "scheduled" maintenance, and since then, it's been running like shit.

I cannot fathom how that site continues to fail after years of "service."

FFS, it's NOT that hard to keep a website up and running.  I bet they push things straight to production without ever load-testing.

Quote from: Valdfellgar
There's no data as, to the best of my knowledge, no one's ever done polling to determine where anime fans sit on this whole fan service issue. I'm in enough seasonal anime communities to know that there is a divide. There's clearly a group that would prefer less fan service in their anime (and that's completely and totally fine.) and that group tends to stick to the anime each season which tones the fan service down. There's another group that doesn't care one way or the other (mostly my view) that is fine with most fan service, save the loli pandering. Very few people are into that.

The final group is very much okay with and really enjoys fan service. I step a little into this group for shows like Keijo, where an entire point of the show is its ludicrous usage of fan service (and if you think the point of Keijo is to wank you're ignorant.)

I don't know how the numbers turn out though. I don't know if it's like 30% of western fans hate fan service and 70% are okay with or actively enjoy, or the other way around, I have no idea. I just know there is indeed a divide and a pretty powerful one.

But Anime Feminist will be useful to people who are searching specifically for fan service less shows. My Wife and I run a review website for anime, started this year, but we don't focus so much on if they have fan service or not. One of us tends to mention anything that stands out to us in the reviews, and we include gifs to help make it easier to see what the show is like.

In fact, just to help anyone searching this season for low fan service anime, just based off first episodes alone, here's what's out there this season:

Light Fan Service:
Izetta The Last Witch (semi-revealing outfits)
Tiger Mask W (mostly bulky naked men, some cleavage)
Monster Hunter Stories: Ride On (None.)
Magic-Kyun! Renaissance (None, hot guys instead.)
Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (None, hot mecha instead.)
Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru: (None, hot guys instead.)
Gakuen Handsome: (None, weird looking guys instead)
Ninja Girl & Samurai Master (None, cutesy silly short-form anime)
Cheating Craft (None?)
Kiitaro's Yokai Picture Diary (None?)
Yuri!!! on ICE (None? Plenty of near naked men though.)
All Out!! (None? Plenty of muscly guys though.)
Miss Bernard said. (None? Plenty of books though.)
Drifters (None? Plenty of blood though.)
Classicaloid (None? Plenty of music though.)
Long Riders! (None? Plenty of biking though.)
March Comes in Like a Lion (None? Plenty of angst and cutesy though.)
Poco's Udon World (None? Plenty of, well actually there really isn't a whole lot of Udon.)
Soul Buster (None? Plenty of Bukkake paint spray though.)
Magic of Stella (None? Plenty of moe though.)
Girlish Number (None? Plenty of snark though.)

Mild Fan Service:
Bloodivores: (Huge busts, revealing outfits)
Magical Girl Raising Project (revealing outfits, busty girls, young busty girls)
Nanbaka (Some 'girl' talk? The cast is almost entirely men though.)
Nazotokine (Jiggling boobs and horrible, horrible anime. Do not watch.)
To Be Hero (Constant, frequent sexual humor with some revealing clothes and lewd humor. Don't really see a whole lot though.)
Flip Flappers (revealing outfits.)
Kiss Him, Not me (Cleavage, undies.)

Medium Fan Service:
Bubuki Buranki (Bust shots, revealing outfits, jokes about boobs)
Scorching Ping Pong Girls (One character dedicated to large boob humor)
Occultic;Nine (massively chested girls, main character fawning over boobs, etc.)
Trickster (Some lecherous jokes, skimpy outfit character)

Heavy Fan Service:
Matoi The Sacred Slayer (Revealing outfits, large busty character every man goes for.)
Keijo (The entire show is heavily painted in fan service.)

Spatula has an Ushio to Tora avatar, so the guy clearly knows how to dig and Himu is just being a Himu.  Nothing to get worked up about, especially when the people that would actually be genuine about their ignorance of anime/JP games (Crossing Eden, Morrigan) are absent from the thread.

Well, I fucking called that "attack" pretty much to a T.

From what I can tell, that injected script was on the site for at least 28 hours. There were hundreds of complaints in that timespan.

Oddly, it was fixed mere minutes after I posted here that I thought NeoGAF was compromised, and Demi posted that there was a pop-under javascript on the site causing the issues.

I think this is much worse than EviLore is making it out to be. Oh, and  :lol at the slowdown being from the ISP provider. Get hacked and lie about it bro.
