Pokemon is going to sell insanely well no matter how mad internet babbys get. Sword and Shield may well end up being the best selling games in the main franchise.

Millions of people still line up to play the latest buggy and bloated Bethesda game. People don’t care as much about bugs and poor performance as we think.

Bethesda can't write and also make bad rpgs. People still bought Fallout 76 despite it being proven Beth is inferior to making Fallout to Obsidian.

People care far less for quality than we think as well.

They'll be back for the next Bloathesda game because gamers are consumer whores.

I finished Little Town Story last night. The gameplay doesn't change at all for the entire thing. Really basic game. Kind of cool in that "card game" aspect but the enemies (there are no generic enemies, its all boss battles) would usually pull some bullshit, or you would get some bad dice rolls.

I wouldn't recommend it

You're the only person out of like 5 friends that have gotten the game that has actually finished it. All the rest gave up about halfway in.

#GameFreakLied story is on the front of CNN Business :lol :lol :lol

Game Freak and Nintendo did not immediately respond to a request for comment from CNN.

When the best defenses of your supposed holiday heavyweight are "I've seen some of the game on Twitch, it looks okay" and "My kid loves it," you know you have problems.

At the very least maybe we'll see The Pokemon Company ease up on the gas a bit going forward, there's no goddamn reason this should be a yearly series like Madden.

It looks like a game with a handheld budget that's been released on a mainline console. I guess you could make that argument for Link's Awakening a bit too since it is a port of a old handheld game and has some weird frame rate issues in spots. So Nintendo's vision of a hybrid console software library is spending alternating years on making things that would be for a home machine and the others for a portable? Since the handheld only version of the Switch hit this year I guess it makes sense for this to be the focus, and as a bonus for them all these 'handheld' games go for $50-60 this time instead of $20-30. :money

20-30?  :lol :lol :lol Try $40 for Pokemon games going back to the DS at least.

I have a little over 2 hours in Shield. Reaclimating after not playing the past 3 mainline games is it? Black was my last one. So far it's... fine. Like yeah the presentation is quite simple. None of that really means much to me. I just made my way to the first "wild area". Essentially the land between cities towns in Twilight Princess is how I would describe the feeling. Yeah it's just a big expanse of not much other than it being a massive nest for Pokemon. I have my Switch on Airplane Mode so I'm not doing any online stuff. And I don't have an actual subscription to Nintendo's online service currently. Really, there isn't anything too much to say at this point as I haven't experienced the true repetition yet of going from town to town, gym to gym, wild area to wild area (not to be confused with tall grass areas which are on routes). So I think we'll see how I'm feeling after I have say 3 badges. But as it is for now, if I never payed any attention to those stupid twitter hashtags I wouldn't have ever guessed there was a freak out so far.

My main question is, can you trade Pokemon with people directly through Switch to Switch? Or does it have to be online? My Pokemon Switch friends all live in another city.

As for me, I am playing as a super kawaii girl and I went with the water type starter. I always do my first playthrough with the water type.

Edit: Oh and the music that plays in the area right next to your house (past the gate that the sheep tackles down. Not a spoiler, by the way) is awesome. Some animu greatness type of tune.

You watch that thinking: "Well it could be worse" and they show a glimpse of a Zelda game originally developed for Wii U  :lol
The towns look pretty nice though, but the game could've really used another 6 - 12 month of development time.

The game is technically behind the times, just as much as the series has been forever.

It's a lesser game. It offers less than what came before.

If you're a baby to the series, obviously Sword and Shield are going to feel cool and fresh.

If this was Pokemon on GameBoy Ultimate or Nintendo 4DS it wouldn't be looked down as much.
Some of Nintendo's teams moved on but GameFreak is still lagging behind.

I can sorta see this becoming a problem with other primarily handheld teams at Nintendo as well.
Intelligent Systems tackled this early by enlisting the help of Tecmo Koei.
Alpha Dream filed for bankruptcy (  :lol ) but something like, I dunno... Golden Sun Switch from Camelot, would probably suffer the same fate as Pokemon.

Grezzo struggled with Link's Awakening too but got lucky they were just doing a remake with a specific art style.
HAL Labs only needed to make a mediocre 2.5D platforming game and Good Feel just slashed the resolution.

Maybe Nintendo should just acquire Namco Bandai and/or Tecmo Koei for the development muscle at this point.  :doge

What's 30s got to do with it?  :lol If anything its a time to grow beyond keeping toys around forever for no reason.

Don't see the point of keeping it as a dust magnet. In the end its just going to end up in storage or something. I havent even turned it on in a year or so. This way I got some Eshop credit that I actually used.

I can agree with this.  If you're not using it, don't think you're going to use it, and/or aren't into keeping stuff for a collection, who cares?  PS5 is next year anyway.

Playing this on the tv reminds me how shitty Nintendo is when it comes to audio.

Not going to pay for voice acting. Fine. But it would be nice if your console supported a audio codec most sound systems can use to decode surround sound.

Nintendo is so cheap.

FFXIII, MGS4, and GTA4 are the reason i don't get myself all hyped up on my own expectations and imagination anymore. it's a lot easier to put down a game and move on when i'm not stewing over what direction i thought they should take the series, or when what i expect from the series isn't what they want to focus on. saying "i don't enjoy this and i don't want to play" it ends up being a lot easier (and healthier) than "raaagh how dare they betray me how could they doooo thiiiiis"

Haven't been seeing any disaster reports about the game, so decided to try out the Pokemams yesterday.  Turned off auto-saving although am not sure if that really even matters  Played for a couple of hours:

-The game looks and runs just fine.  Actually appeared to run smoother than in preview videos.  It's not a visual masterpiece or anything, but it's colorful and the world looks "alive."  Character animations in battles are also just fine.  Definitely seems like some of the stuff put up pre-release was legit bullshit.

-Pop-in character models are dumb, but don't affect the gameplay.  Hasn't happened to me during battles.

-The lack of any kind of voice acting is weird.  Just seems like it should be there in major story cut scenes if nothing else.

-Absurd hand-holding to start off, but I can forgive it since this is aimed at a younger crowd.  Also am a Pokemon n00b so it's OK with me.

This is the first time I've tried playing a Pokemon game since the original in 1998, so I can't comment on what's missing or changed from previous releases.  It feels like "babby's first RPG" in some ways, but I guess maybe that's just Pokemon for you or it's going to get more complex with more progression.

Also this is just a mindless, irrelevant nitpick, but it's kind of funny how your character is depicted as clueless and not knowing anything about Pokemon stuff, when in the game world it's clearly a massive part of everyone's lives.

And my Roku players are just fine.  :P

What does this mean?  They don't respond in battles after a certain point?

Also does anyone know how the gift system works?  Can I check daily for stuff?  Got a Meowth yesterday- hey, I recognize that guy!

Although it's healthier, this is the first time Andrex has ever been this disappointed in Pokemon. Pokemon is his favorite series. Let the dude express his disappointment. There's a medium between raging and just bottling up your feelings. Andrex is expressing his disappointment in a healthy manner.

Also I'm sorry. If you're a lifelong fan of something and they make something as disappointing as FFXIII expecting people to just move on isn't even within the realm of being realistic.

Finally, It's unfair to say anyone is getting "hyped up by their own expectations". The game is full of bugs and looks like it's running on duct tape. It's a mainline Pokemon game. The ire aimed towards it is earned. Is it good to not let shit get to you too much? Absolutely. But what you're suggesting is also telling people to ignore their discontent. Stuff doesn't work that way. Andrex isn't suggesting any dumb gamer stuff that they usually do. He's just disappointed in the latest game.
