Does anyone really need a big gameplay blowout for Tears of the Kingdom at this point? I don't understand who it would even be for. It's a direct sequel to a game that sold 30+ million copies.

The fact we're 3 months away from release and still don't know that much about new gameplay mechanics/locations is pretty novel, at least for a game of this size and popularity.
I have a feeling that some way we end up on the Blood Moon for the final battle :lawd

(Image removed from quote.)

I'm expecting we see something of the Twilight Realm, or maybe some Twili, and the moon seems good as any spot for it.

The garbled sounds remind me of the Twili language too :thinking

There's also a lot Skyward Sword references just distorted.

I haven't gamed in months because my life's been super shitty and I don't feel joy from things that used to make me feel joy at the moment.

But I wanted to play some MH Rise tonight and I think my only Pro Controller is just... fucking dead. No light on when plugging it in, no lights when hitting all the buttons, long-pressing Home while plugged in doesn't do anything... WTF.

I've been considering giving up gaming entirely for the next few years (Switch goes in the closet), this might have pushed me over the edge. It'll be nice to get Tears after all the DLC is done, and RE4r when it hits Switch 2.

How long you plugged it in for? That happens to mine.

Nvm I double checked. Was dead, plugging it in, lights came back on.

Does pressing the pairing button at the top do anything?

Let's buy Tasty a new Pro Controller. 🤗

Also it might need to charge. One time I left my Switch unplugged for monnnnnthhs and I plugged it in and it would not turn on. I thought I bricked it and apparently this is bad for switch and it struggles getting power if left off a while. So maybe the Pro Controller is similar. Let it charge a while and then let's see.

I highly suggest gaming in bad times because it can get a good get away from the suck.

Just pre-ordered the Collection Edition of Tears of the Kindom. Less than 100 days until the new Zelda releases :cruise
It's already sold out at most retailers.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land looks great but I'm waiting for a sale or a good second hand deal, same for Yoshi and Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury so that means I have to wait a while.

You can find discussions about it here:

https://gbatemp.net/threads/hall-effect-sensor-joycon-sticks-on-amazon.624698/

The short of it is:

- There is some weird "gap" due to how the sticks are built (doesnt affect anything, just OCD)
- There is a noticable "click" when moving the stick in either up or down direction. This "click" has an effect that can be seen during calibration, where the stick "jumps" (see video below)

https://twitter.com/cajumjoe/status/1617848465656287233?s=20

I haven't really played any movement heavy games since installing them, but I've had no issues or noticeable drift with the sticks after calibration and playing some games

Eh. Maybe. Skip all the story and all the optional objectives and it's a solid character action game with generally unfun enemies to fight. I think it's pretty forgettable now that it's been some time.

Anyone have any recommendations for good headphones for the Switch? I never realized how shitty the built-in speakers were until playing Theaterhythm on it. Even using my nice headphones isn't helping that much because I guess switch isn't powered for headphone output? Maybe I just need an amp. These are my go to headphones I've been using for a couple of decades.

https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M50x-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR86

They've always sounded good on stuff, but I noticed they weren't sounding good on Theaterhythm on Switch and sounded really tiny, barely a step up from the built in speakers. Then today I played Theaterhythm docked on my audio receiver setup and holy shit the game sounded like 10x better than my headphones. I had just assumed the quality of the music tracks in the game was low quality to save space, but seems like it's a headphones thing.

I assume bluetooth headphones would be bad because of lag for a rhythm game.

I tried the new Rogue mode in Xenoblade 3 with the latest expansion pack drop. Just did one run and got to the final boss of tier 1 (stage 30/30) and died because only had 1 healer and they kept grabbing aggro and dying too quick and that boss was too long of a battle to make it through with a dead healer.

Seems like kind of a neat mode, though also seems pretty jank. Definitely feels like getting enough multiple healers as soon as possible so they can revive each other is critical, but its RNG which characters/roles you get.

Also a good way to get the currency to buy nopon coins if you need them.

Will do the new character quest next session on it. Game is fun to come back to every once and a while.

Game might be mixed less loud for more dynamic sound in the tracks. I think the jack should output the same sound as docked, so your two options are basically either a headphone amp or a similar headphone with lower impedance. The M50xs are pretty low impedance as is though.

Does your audio reciever have a headphone port? Check the headphones through those to see if it's just the amplification that's the problem.

I've wasted way too much time in sheltered Zelda communities with overly serious weirdos that treat timeline discussion like the first Council of Nicaea. Hence the sarcasm of my previous post but now I've explained the joke which kills the joke. Though to be fair it really wasn't that funny or clever to begin with. Thanks for your time.   :trash

Mine is actually in the closet lol, but it’d only take like 5 mins set up. I keep hearing horror stories about bricked consoles and/or gamepads though which is making me worried  :-\

I’ve been too lazy to buy the last few stuff on the 3DS and Wii U eshops that I would ever want to play. Really should get to that before they close in March.

This got me to look at mine. Maybe I should unscrew it, but from the outside, it looks fine? When I last checked my PSPs, the doors popped off from the battery bloat.

I have my Wii U hooked up for Twilight Princess, Pikmin 3, and the Donkey Kong Returns 2. The latter two I got digital copies free somehow? Could be an apology for buying a Wii U like the 3DS had. Or club nintendo. Being honest, I ain’t gonna play them. Should pack it up.

My retail game collection is actually just two Zelda remakes, two Platinum games, Nintendo world pack in, and Mario maker. I have more Vita games than that.

About to start packing for a move.  This may be the last time I see my WiiU still functioning.  Battery barely lasts an hour on full charge and is always dead when jumping in.  If it dies, it dies.

That’s not far off from how long it lasted new!

You had the tablet lasting two hours and the classic controller lasting 80 hours.

The Wii U was a worthless piece of shit, Iwata should've cancelled it like he originally intended to.

The only things that kept it afloat were the promise of Zelda and about a dozen really good games of which many are now ported to the Switch.
Even the VC was busted with the weird bug that darkened the screen that they never fixed.

Not even Reggie could sell it. He tried to sell the Batman Arkham port as a 'new' game because it had a map screen on the controller.  :lol

There was the weird APU that they downclocked before launch because it kept overheating. There was the slow ass Wii -> Wii U transfer process that took a day to complete with Pikmin carrying your saves from one system to another. In fact the entire UI was slow thanks to its slow RAM. Then there was the software decisions, which made absolutely no sense even if the games were good. Someone decided that Mario Kart 8 was going to be the graphical showcase yet it ran at 59fps for some reason causing a weird stutter (that they didn't fix until the Switch release). The 'Homers Car' collection of controllers and control set-ups so you could play original Wii games on it also made no sense at times. New Super Mario Bros. U couldn't be played multiplayer with just the GamePad (that was used to place 'blocks') instead, all players needed a Wii Remote or a Wii U Pro Controller.

Third party wise the highlights were Need for Speed: Most Wanted U, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Sonic Racing Transformed, Resident Evil: Revelations and Mass Effect 3(?).

Ended up playing Xenoblade 3 most of the day with the new rogue mode and beat it a few times.

The trick to it is basically to get enough attackers and attack buffs that you kill things fast so you don't have to worry about nopon meter refills much. Also makes the runs way faster. When I first tried doing a "safe" run with a few tanks and healers the fights took forever and my run took like 90 mins before I died. Kept running out of nopon timer in a single battle.

Otoh, with an almost all attacker party and a bunch of attack and dexterity buffs (so you're not missing your hits) you can do like 50 stages in about a 30 min run. Pays out decent mats too and has some mostly ugly clothing. Pretty much just using it to buy a ton of silver nopon coins to get the ascension quest for the new DLC character.

You probably only need like 1 healer and all attackers, but 2 healers so they can revive each other makes it safer. Not sure if a tank is really needed considering how fast you kill stuff, though I guess on bosses a tank might be important so people aren't wiped one after another. I did 1 tank, 2 healers, and 4 attacks.

The problem is the mode is way too fucking RNG and getting a bunch of attackers in the first dozen or so stages is a crapshoot. In my 90 min run I only ran across 2 attacker hero drops the entire run.

Also it seems like there's no way to quit a run until you die and dying can be pretty hard. The mode is made for running the first 5 mins of 5-10 stages and if you have a bad start quitting and re-starting but there's no way to restart outside closing the game? That seems dumb.

It's a neat mode otherwise. Makes you play the XB3 battle system in a way you never do in the main game and it also sorta makes better use of the 20+ consul guys to be random bosses that can show up on stages in an RNG rogue game.

Anyhow beat all three tiers and got the clothes so once I got a few more noppon coins to finish the new DLC character I'm good until the next DLC drop.

Looking into it some more. All console versions should have an offline mode. PC is online only. There's standard and seasonal characters. The standard characters are completely offline on consoles. For a seasonal characters you need to log in.

I bought Diablo 2 on Switch yesterday and that one needs you to log into Battle net. Can't even create a character without it. You should be able to play offline afterwards but it does an online check every 30 days.

Forgot about that  :dead

Your Wii was wiped in the process (unless you used homebrew to back it up). Everything Wii was in its own Wii sandbox and you couldn’t use Wii U controllers in it. They charged for Wii U upgrades of Wii virtual console purchases.

D2 feels clunky as fuck as a console port coming off of D3

idontknowwhatIexpected.gif but figured it'd be closer to a content port of D2 into the D3 engine rather than actually just D2 with a wrapper to bind your mouse
