As much as I hate to admit it, I never knew that by watching
The Apprentice all those years I was actually doing valuable political science research. Absolutely nothing about the last two years has surprised me all that much other than him winning. (And that one Matt Taibbi column almost convinced me he had an actual chance.)
He even kicked out all the actual business people who used to be guests/judges to mostly just feature his kids, wife and their stupid things like Trump Steaks or Ivanka's jewelry!
The clearest was his first season decision making process compared to later and then especially when it became the celebrity version. He increasingly made it so the tasks were merely time filler and it became about him trying to find ways to fire the people he decided to fire from the start and get the final two he always wanted. He would regularly break his own rules for the show while being just scandalized if anyone else did. The celebrity version was just nonsensical and mostly about him trying to make them fight with each other so I gave up on it. There's an Adam Carolla podcast out there where he has fellow contestants Penn Jillette and Dee Snider on and they talk about how they all were under the impression that everything the producers told them about rules and stuff mattered but they quickly came to realize it was all about manipulating Trump.
The first season he's kinda nervous about everything and leans heavily on the business people's advice and then makes it his own judgement. After about halfway through the second season he's more or less thrown out the business component of the show except for the one time when this team failed a sales task by somehow losing money which was pretty fucking hard to ignore.
