All of the recent hysteria over war with NK was a function of Trump antagonizing them in the first place. So yeah, it's great that Trump temporarily put down his saber, but Kim is still a ruthless dictator running a labor camp regime, sitting on a stockpile of nukes, soooooo...
When you step back it really is kinda of amazing.
Trump pulled off a three card monte hustle and I don’t even know if he realizes he did it.
- North Korea has sought for generations to legitimize themselves by being recognized by the United States and has shown a willingness to meet without conditions for basically forever.
- American presidents have all been like, nah, you gotta do x, y, z because you keep fucking us over, and doing things like running slave camps and shit. Here’s Madeline Albright as a consolation if you play nice.
- Trump comes in and says not only do you need to do x, y, z, but I’m gonna flame you on Twitter and raise tensions because I’m a moron that only cares about appealing to my base using the office for self gain.
- North Korea reiterates, like they have before, their willingness to meet the president.
- Trump 180’s and accepts it, goes on to declare victory and that only he was capable of bringing Kim to the table.
- A good chunk of the media and the public give him a “win”.....”Gotta give Trump credit for getting Kim to the table!”

and to be fair I’m actually glad we may be getting to a place because of Trump where we aren’t adhering to outdated diplomatic norms(though no way the right lets the left do something like this next time) that frankly haven’t worked more often than not, still
