I've been staring at this for five minutes. He wants to make impeaching Trump a litmus test for Dem presidential candidates? Does he know that if they win Trump will stop being president*? I can't imagine why everyone in DC thinks he's dumb.

During the 2016 elections, Steyer held off on endorsing Hillary Clinton and tried to nudge the candidates to adopt aggressive clean-energy plans, frustrating the Clinton campaign.
He's just trying to make up for his past mistakes.  :teehee

Anyhow he's spending 40+ million on impeaching Trump. I've never seen a bigger waste of money than the Clinton campaign.

Quote
Steyer plans to spend $40 million in 2019 on the impeachment effort, working to galvanize the email list of 7 million supporters he’s gathered into an active grassroots army capable of pushing politicians up and down the ballot on the issue

...

Steyer says he’ll see how his political organizing evolves in 2019 before deciding what his process may be for supporting a 2020 candidate
What are these 2019 races on the ballot that will be for people who can impeach the President? A few special elections maybe?

It says "organizing," not campaigning. Which probably means email blasts, TV ads, and maybe town halls trying to rile people up and get them to call their MC. Think Heritage Action in 2013 trying to get the ACA repealed.

He also seems to suggest that he's switched to impeachment because nobody cared about his climate change attempts:
Quote
In building the impeachment organization, Steyer said, he drew lessons from his multi-year push on climate change, when he says he focused too much on waging information battles and not enough on grassroots organizing and correctly framing his message.

“With climate, I thought we had to win the argument,” he said. “I didn’t realize we had to win the fight.”

Mike Bloomberg Statement on Independent Runs
JAN. 28, 2019

Last fall I spent over $100 million of my own money to elect Democrats to the House because I believed it was absolutely imperative to ensure a congressional counterweight to President Trump.

Thankfully, we were successful. But that was just the first step — the next and most important step is to defeat Donald Trump in 2020.

Now I have never been a partisan guy — and it’s no secret that I looked at an independent bid in the past. In fact I faced exactly the same decision now facing others who are considering it.

The data was very clear and very consistent. Given the strong pull of partisanship and the realities of the electoral college system, there is no way an independent can win. That is truer today than ever before.

In 2020, the great likelihood is that an independent would just split the anti-Trump vote and end up re-electing the President. That's a risk I refused to run in 2016 and we can't afford to run it now.

We must remain united, and we must not allow any candidate to divide or fracture us. The stakes couldn’t be higher.

Lou Dobbs

Dobbs’ Fox Business show is characterized by his xenophobic campaign against immigrants and his frighteningly over-the-top adulation of the president. Those two factors have made his show one of Trump’s favorites and have made Dobbs one of the president’s outside advisers, including on the shutdown. Forced to decide between the two by Trump’s Friday announcement, Dobbs slammed the president, saying that “illegal immigrants are surely pleased” by the result. He later added: "This president said it was going to be conditional -- border security, building that wall -- and he just reversed himself. That's a victory for Nancy Pelosi. It will be perceived as such on every television monitor and screen in the country -- and to deny it is to try to escape from reality, and that we ain't going to do here."

Minutes after that segment aired, Trump tweeted:

Trump won Michigan by like .3%.

You don't need charisma to spoil an election, just a selfish, egotistical both sidesing dumb fuck with enough money to dump ads and appear on stage to siphon off a few thousand protest votes(that will come mostly from Democratic candidate voters) in a few swing states.

He's basically a conservative democrat on policy, a fiscal conservative and moderate social liberal, with a both sides centrist bullshit rhetoric. You don't need a huge base to spoil a close election. Fuck Schultz

When Bloomberg's people looked at this they basically concluded that they are going to pull off almost entirely from moderate Democrats and moderate Republicans that overwhelmingly weren't going to vote for Trump.

Trump isn't daring him to get into the race because he's scared, he knows it siphons off his opponents coalition much more than his.

Someone explain Shultz to me.

He's going against everything the Democrat platform stands for

"Schultz says the nation cannot afford the priorities of the far-left Democrats, including full government-paid health insurance and college tuition.

The billionaire former Starbucks CEO says he could never run for president as a Democrat because the party has moved too far left."

But POLITICAL EXPERTS are concerned that so many Democrats will vote for him Trump will win again?

Thats idiotic. This is like if Kasich ran. He would peel voters off Trump that can never vote D but also are sick of The D.

Isn't the idea that there won't be many undecideds when it comes to Trump?

You'll have his supporters and the GOP voters who will vote to keep the GOP in power and then you have everyone else.

If everyone else's votes are split Trump has a chance, and the "everyone else" is definitely not all liberals or left-leaning people.

You can say this same shit in reverse.

Isn't the idea that there won't be many undecideds when it comes to Harris?

You'll have her supporters and the Dem voters who will vote to put the Dem in power and then you have everyone else.

If everyone else's votes are split Harris has a chance, and the "everyone else" is definitely not all conservatives or right-leaning people.

So Trump's ideas about the border seem to describe scenes from Sicario: Day of the Soldado.
Also refreshing to see John Bolton not lie about Democracy, liberty and freedom but just straight up tell everyone that he's there to get the oil.

As for Schultz, LMAO. But he's probably too much of a narcissist to drop out and he can probably get some rich and famous people to donate to his campaign.

He has a good chance of winning too. Why not cut out the middle man and just directly elect the billionaires.
Saves everyone a lot of time lobbying the established parties.

One thing I've noticed is they're never really upset about any current event, but always upset about the hypothetical future far off extreme ramifications of any current event. Where he is going to pull from is the upper class and suburban college educated Democrats and disillusioned never-Trumpers that have their employer health insurance, 401k's, and will be receptive to restrained tax messaging and the both sides centrist bullshit. That aren't married to Democratic orthodoxy or aren't regular Democratic voters but were planning on voting against Trump.

You don't need some large constituency to play spoiler, just a few thousand in highly contested swing states to be an additional voter pull along with the inevitable green/libertarian candidates and the slew of voter suppression tactics.

And the fact we all(including Schultz) know he is going to be a fringe candidate speaks to how big of a narcissistic POS this guy is.

But illiterate liberals are too busy with a prosecution complex to notice
No you fucking moron, what you would want to run to pull from Trump is someone that appeals to his base, not someone that is going to pull mostly from Democrats and non-Trump voters.

If you think running on a Bush platform will pull from Democrats, you need to reconsider who the moron in this conversation is.

He pulls from people who voted for Trump because "government should be run like a business" and "its time to try something new" but are disillusioned that Trump has done neither

Dude is a Perot, not a Nader.

Except he'll be lucky to crack the numbers Stein pulled.

if dem margins are so small that they are quaking in their boots over the coffee guy spoiling their election after the last two years, they have way bigger problems than the coffee guy running

Go read his stuff then before you throw around the holier-than-though arrogance, he's not running on a Bush platform you fucking moron. He's making a choice between the Democratic primary and an independent run for a reason. He's for striving to get UHC, but not single-payer, for a climate change legislation, but nothign crazy, liberal immigration policies, moderately liberal social policy, gun control, and modest tax relief, all rolled into a pitch as the self made centrist....He's basically a third way Democrat. And that is why everyone from Bloomberg to Axlerod are throwing shade at this potential decision. He is far more likely to be splitting the Democratic and anti-Trump vote than Trump.

And i haven't seen either of you dumb-asses articulate what is incorrect about these assessments or even grasp who Howard Schultz is before you went to popping off.
