I honestly can’t imagine seeing that big of a gulf between Warren and Sanders. Y u so 2016 salty?

nothing to do with 2016 although she admits that the game was rigged, and she was essentially part of it.

I don't like that she's a former registered republican, her shitty Native American stunt, hawkish on Iran, voted to increase the military budget, her support of Bibi's corrupt and far right regime in Israel and their attacks on Palestinian civilians--she's a war hawk, clapped for Trump and his stupid anti-socialism rant, her "I'm a proud capitalist" nonsense, her willingness to accept campaign contributions from big money,.

Aside from the Native valor stealing, which is whatever, Bernie is diametrically opposite on all those issues.

I don't mean it as an excuse but myopic support for Israel, voting lavish military budgets and engaging in at least some saber rattling towards country X that has been picked for the Axis of Evil slot at the moment are all features-not-bugs for the major pretenders except Sanders aren't they ? It is what it is.

If Warren makes it to the general with Trump she could be the first presidential candidate to burst out in tears live on air during a debate.

Hillary could sort of take the abuse with a ' :beli ' face after all those years. I'm not sure everyone else would keep it cool next to an opponent that behaves like a sadistic stalking serial killer when you debate him.
The Biden family has the thing with the dead son of whom the widow married the brother and then divorced. Trump will bring that up. In fact family stuff is one of the reasons why Biden was unsure about running in the first place.
As we know from inviting the people who accused Bill of abuse as debate guests Trump is willing to do anything to intimidate his opponent.

The Democratic primary is sort of kiddy pool compared to the nasty campaign that is surely to follow.

I'm not debating their electability, although she consistently does worse h2h in polls against Trump and I firmly believe she would be smashed in the general, I am talking about who aligns more with my values.

After 2016 you're really going to say this so authoritatively? :gurl

It’s kinda weird just seeing a Warren/Sanders slap fight. Guess her being a woman is enough to make the Hillbots happy? Idgi

I'd draw a connection between her "I've got a plan for that" product differentiation and the Hillary Clinton camp's position that she was the most qualified candidate ever (plus she had a bunch of policies on her website no one visited). Essentially technocracy rides unto the breach once more.
yeah, she’s got the same wonkish respectability. there’s a take to be had that the medium’s mattered far more than the message when it’s come to dividing the two (warren/sanders, I mean) in the electorate’s eyes.

He voted for Biden's Crime Bill? What else?
bosnia, Afghanistan, Iraq(1998)

e: lemme be clear, warren’s definitely more hawkish

He voted for Biden's Crime Bill? What else?

Sponsored a bill to have nuclear waste from Vermont shipped to a poor latino community in Texas. Fairly long history of being a "left" immigration hawk (ie "open borders" is a Koch brothers plan). When protesters picketed a GE plant making Gatling guns for the US and its rightwing allies in Central America, sided with GE and had them arrested. Supported Bill Clinton's 1993 austerity budget as well as incrementalist neoliberal policies like private insurance portability. As mayor of Burlington, an aide said they "out-Republicaned the Republicans." Voted to make it harder for felons to sue prisons. Voted for god knows how many bloated military budgets, as well as the AUMF. Said Andrew Gillum and Stacey Abrams lost because white people don't want to vote for a black candidate but that's not racism.

You can make most of those sound better by providing context and he's still on the left edge of elected US senators and credible presidential candidates (I'm the pragmatist squish of the board so of course I feel that way). But might still be worth examining why you're not aware of these things.

Worth remembering that only a small fraction of people regularly discuss politics online, and a small fraction of that fraction actually take strong positions on intra-party feuds.

In that small online swamp of 2016 reenactors, however, both camps are fucking insane.

Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison, New Jersey, June 17, 2019 – A third of all adults in the Garden State don’t know the name of the current governor. The most recent survey from the Fairleigh Dickinson University Poll finds that 67 percent say they know who the current governor is, with 33 percent who do not.

And a handful (21 in total) said they knew who the governor is, and then offered the name of Murphy’s predecessor, Chris Christie.

Sure, she's Hillary without 2 decades of baggage lugging behind her.

Never seen Hillary take a position on wall street like Warren has, to start. Is this the best analogy when we look at their various platforms?

"Regulate the bad businesses" is going to alienate the other segments of capital that compromise the extant Democratic coalition (e.g. tech) too. Being less personally odious will certainly help, but it's not like tech is averse to helping ICE / CBP. #DoNoEvil

Ivanka will be beautiful forever thanks to her five makeup tricks:
Quote
Here are five more things we learned about Ivanka from her #MakeUpArtist:

1) Ivanka's favorite looks: "The makeup she wore for her wedding is very special, but I think that most recently it’s the one she wore to the National Republican Convention."

2) Her nightime no-no: "She never wears makeup to bed."

3) Her natural beauty trick: "She likes to drink hot water with lemon."

4) Her favorite makeup trends: "Luminizers or highlighters."

5) Her international beauty routine: "Before applying her makeup and after washing her face, I tone and hydrate her skin. I use a collagen mask that Wendi Murdoch, a friend of Ivanka and one of my clients, brought back from China. Sometimes I use some products my friend Chris brings back from Korea."

Quote from: actual Willie Sutton quote
Why did I rob banks? Because I enjoyed it. I loved it. I was more alive when I was inside a bank, robbing it, than at any other time in my life. I enjoyed everything about it so much that one or two weeks later I'd be out looking for the next job. But to me the money was the chips, that's all.

Even if they were frequently stymied, Sanders and his few official and unofficial aides were able to take administrative actions to make city government more efficient and fair. Unlike Paquette, the new city administration insisted on competitive bidding on city contracts and tried to combine city departmental purchases. A new health insurance plan saved as much as $35,000 a year. On other insurance, as much as $200,000 a year or 40 percent was saved by opening up bids. Gasoline costs were cut 5 to 10 percent.

Instead of leaving the city’s money in low-or zero-interest accounts, a new cash management system was instituted and management of pension funds reviewed, with an estimated gain of $70,000 a year. A new centralized telephone system should save $100,000 a year. Higher fees for building permits and private police and fire alarms will bring in $150,000 a year. Higher interest rates for mortgages from the cemetery fund yield another $15,000 in the first year. And the new city treasurer discovered a previously unidentified surplus of $1.9 million.“People had expectations that if you’re a radical, you won’t last because you can’t run the city,” says City Constable David Clavelle, a former aide to Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy and one of Sanders’ first appointments. “We concentrated on nuts and bolts. We had to prove to people that people of our persuasion could run the city government and run it better. As one local politician said, we out-Republicaned the Republicans.”

“But we didn’t want to sound like Republicans, and just to be sound fiscal administrators,” Leopold continues. “We wanted to show to what extent government can be exciting and important to people’s lives. That’s why we moved to youth, arts, programs for the elderly and neighborhood planning assemblies. You can do little things to make life more interesting.” Operation Snow Shovel was a volunteer effort to help dig out the elderly and Battery Park was transformed form a troubled teen hangout to a popular cultural scene.
