I really don't see the point of the Pixelbook. It's a large screen phone with a keyboard. For that much money I want an actual laptop

That HTC tech  :lol

I'll have my mini's here today. I'm looking forward to the new features for Chromecast that weren't covered in the presser yet. The same sound shaping is coming to all Chromecast enabled devices if you have Google home.

They really should hand Adobe a fat sack of cash to port their shit over. Market the move as the "start of many" desktop-class programs making the move. Do the same for Valve (should be easy with their HTC connections.)

The nest camera stuff is amazing in Google assistant you can ask for a 5 sec 30 sec clip and it will make a gif and send it to your phone. Super useful if you've got connection issues or in an area that doesn't have highspeed LTE and just want to check out what's going on at home.

They're finally integrating Nest in the way everyone hoped they would when they got bought.

It's been a long road with Nest, but my Dropcam Pro's are still going strong and I've stuck it out. I just wish they would price their products appropriately. The new Nest stuff is expensive especially when you look at what Ring is providing in the same space.

HOLY SHIITTTT the Pixel 2 has a 98 DxOMark score!!

For reference, the original Pixel got the highest-rated score at the time with 89.

The previous leader was the iPhone 8 Plus with 94.

I know the iPhone X will likely be packing some serious camera tech when it drops, but still, 98... holy fucking shit.

I could trade in my Pixel XL, that I got for free as a replacement from my Nexus 6P, and get the Pixel XL2 for like 500 bucks, which isn't bad. But i don't think I want to sacrifice a headphone jack.

Every person who preorders the Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL will get a Google Home Mini ($49) for free. Ships 4-6 weeks later, though.

I own a Pixel and I bought a Pixel 2 because of the trade in offer. Battery life declines so it makes sense to trade while the iron is hot.

That said, I stick to the smaller phone. Which is also the uglier of the two. I think small phones are generally perfect size whereas my Droid Turbo made me feel like I was lugging a burden around. My hands often feel too large for the smaller phone though. I hate myself.

Should I cancel and get the XL in November?  :lawd

Pixel 2 has the same thing, front and back cameras.

Quote
You can also expect quick autofocus through dual-pixel phase detection, and a portrait mode that creates DSLR-like soft backgrounds using only one camera (whether it's the back camera or the front 8-megapixel shooter).

It's not really something I could quantify. I just feel that neither the new iPhones or this are worth the cost of upgrading at the moment.

The Pixel 2's are definitely better than what Apple put out this year. Lens looks pretty neat, and it might be the sort of thing that could tempt me to jump on board in the future. The translation stuff with the earbuds is really cool, but it's not a feature I'd ever use. Apple seems to be focused on stupid flashy bullshit at this point. Their big feature for their most revolutionary phone EVAR are animojis. Don't even get me started on the touchbar on the MBPs. If iPhone X, and how Apple has chosen to take advantage of its features, is the future of iPhone, chances are I'm definitely jumping back to Android next year. They're at least trying to come up with compelling features not aimed solely at teenagers.

NONE of the new flagships are worth the price. Incremental upgrades at ever increasing entry prices. Only tech fetishists and blind brand loyalists (*cough cough*) buy at launch.

Add to that the fact that they increased the size of the XL this year and I have like, zero interest in ever owning one.

Hey fandrex- what color XL 1 did you get, and do you want to sell it? Could use that, I guess.

It works on every carrier when you buy it unlocked. You can only buy it subsidized from Verizon and its only retail presence be at Verizon stores.

Thanks, operation escape from Verizon lives on. Do you or anyone here use Project Fi? Just wondering if it's reliable. It's monthly plan seems to be the cheapest option.

I can't use Project Fi since I use Google Voice for my main number (since 2011, lol.) Google can pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

As for cheap plans, I like Straight Talk. $45/month, uses AT&T's network, 8GB of LTE data. Works perfectly for me.

Google Fi -is- pretty tempting for me. It's a good plan in my area, but its data plan doesn't really match my usage on my AT&T plan. I pay ~140 a month and get 15 gigs a month, and I usually use almost all of that. Fi IIRC, at least around here, is a flat 10 bucks per gig, so it doesn't work as a deal for me. If my commutes weren't so long, I could probably live with that.

Note: My info is a few months old on Fi pricing in my area. Anything incorrect is not an intended misrepresentation.

I'm getting the XL and it's by far the biggest phone I've ever bought. I'm actually a having some post-purchase cold feet, but I'll keep my order until I have it in my hand and have used it for a few weeks.

Haha so I'm having the same issue the other way around. Again it stems from my desire to move to a smaller phone back when I used a Droid Turbo for 2+ years. Now that I've owned a pixel my only desire is a bigger screen and less bezel which I'm obviously not getting with P2. Part of me thinks I'm missing out on the real product by not going for the XL. (Spending a good chunk of change while missing out on the real thing is hard to swallow)

My current plan is to swap my lightly cracked Pixel with a refurbished(-$79), then send it in for the full $360 credit. I downgraded to 64GB of storage from 128GB and used the extra money to purchase the pixel buds arriving in late November.

Because the store is weird I had to start a whole new transaction to trade in my GFs iPhone so she could get a pixel too. Went with the Verizon kinda blue. Hers ships in November though.

I try to be official when possible. I don't open Twitter on my phone nearly enough for it to be a problem. (95% of tweets I read are via TweetDeck in Chrome.) :P

I can see a bit of grain but I have to be looking for it. The much bigger issues (though still not major) for me is the desaturated screen compared to the OG Pixel. It's sRGB and thus more "accurate," but it's a little jarring. I'm hoping I get used to it, because I do want to see accurate colors when shooting my videos and whatnot.

Really digging the phone overall. Will have more impressions later after more real use.

The XL *is* incredible. It's my first big-sized phone but I haven't had much issue adjusting at all.

Also the Moment case for it feels incredible to me. It makes it like double the thickness but I don't mind. It also has the benefit of snap-on lenses, though the one I bought has a weird vignette effect...

After having used an iPhone X which has a screen which, when viewed at extreme angles,  resembles fake plastic phones on store shelves, the screen tinting on the 2XL when shifted even a small amount is kinda unfortunate.  Hope you won the screen lottery, Andrex.
