I think for a lot of conservatives, this is going to be a major dilemma going forward. There's the kneejerk contempt for intellecutalism and the "nerd stuff" that arises from it, like the Internet, smartphones, and a massive, totally convenient, communication infrastructure. And yet, these tech conveniences are so convenient, that despite the fact they're "stupid nerd stuff" they use them anyway, but their contempt for "nerd things" means they never bother to understand the limits/risks of that tech, and leave themselves wide open to these type of blunders that get caught. If I recall, supposedly the point is that the people inspired by Jacket are in the wrong and misunderstanding him; the film is doing something Jacket never did. To be honest, I never really cared for Hotline Miami's stories, though. I always struck me as kind of hypocritical to make the violence in the game a generally unavoidable goal and make it as thrilling as possible while throwing the blame on the player for enjoying it.
