The fact there is no running is still absolute shit in my opinion. Running into a attack in SoR V5 made you do a coop special move like axels uppercut.

No running and no dash is gonna make this shit feel slow I bet.

Try it out ASAP!  Great gameplay, multiple routes/story paths, challenge, crap to unlock, etc.  It's good stuff.

I would be shocked if SOR4 had multiple paths.  Not holding my breath for that though.

If they were to really copy what the original was doing, using contemporary dance music of the time, you guys would probably hate the soundtrack even more. It'd be full of tech house and riddim. Maybe a couple downtempo or breakbeat stuff for bosses or something 

Thats what I would have done anyway. Appeal to fans of the original with the gameplay only. Bring everything else forward fuck it.

EDIT: Damn if they allow you to mod the pc version so you could totally replace the soundtrack...and it integrates well hmmm

Looks really good, plays really well and feels responsive, and I like that there's some added 'modern' touches like juggling, plus when you do your special and it drains your life, you have a window of time to hit other enemies and fill your lifebar back up.

Knockdown recovery too, nice.  They moved item pick-ups to a separate button, which seemed weird at first, but it helps a lot when you're beating up enemies and don't want to change weapons or pick-up a health item by accident.

There's a part in stage one where a car comes out of nowhere and crashes into a wall, taking out some of the enemies for you- it's really seamless and while absolutely nothing for a video game released in 2020, is pretty cool to see in Streets Of Rage, lol.

About the only thing that feels missing is the lack of running.

Stage one cleared.  Died once on the stage boss- playing on normal though and there's like three harder difficulties available.  The stage had a different areas and some stage hazards popped up, too.  Was nice to see the boss's electricity power also hits enemies; she killed most of the flunkies for me. 

Music ain't bad so far- it changed like four times already, so I guess if you aren't big on a track, it will switch to something else soon enough.

You can switch characters between levels.

Looks like there's five special moves per character?  Forward, Forward and attack for a blitz move that doesn't drain life.  Your special that drains life, an air special that drains life, a defensive special, and then a "star special" that's a screen-clearing attack.  You pick up star power-ups during gameplay for these.

Level two starts off in jail- there's cops beating up the enemies, but they attack you too for whatever reason.

You can get out of the way and just let them fight each other, lol.

All you need to do is log onto your account and have your payment ready- if you use Paypal for example, make sure you're logged onto that too.  99% of the time has worked for me.

Estel took me down- that is one hell of a cheap boss fight.     She calls for back-up and a squad car comes in off-screen to fire a bazooka at you like the specials in SoR1, plus gets cops to help her.  Almost had her beat and then it started firing multiple bazooka shots all over the place.  The fire from these doesn't hurt the cops.


And I'm eager to continue and go again!

I remember reading that they wanted to do this in SOR2 I think, but couldn't (there's a car in the backdrop of stage 1 where they wanted it to happen) so pretty cool shoutout to do it in 4

Adam can hop forward or backward, too.  Blaze and Axel are very much "old-school" compared to the other three, although they definitely have new tricks with the combo system.

Just finished the game!  It was a lot of fun the whole way through.  Don't really have much to complain about, apart from some cheap enemies and deaths here and there (it can be hell when you're fighting on elevator levels and keep getting knocked off, but welcome to beat-em-ups.  Plus you can certainly turn the tables).

The game is 12 stages long.  Would estimate that on the first time through (on normal) the average time to complete each level on normal is around 10 minutes or so, not counting continue attempts.  You get unlimited continues and can switch characters when you start over, plus you can also opt for a boost and give yourself extra live/star attacks at the cost of getting a lower point score.

Was a little concerned that the end was going to suck, but it turned out all right.  The big bads here are Mr. X's kids, Mr. Y and Ms. Y.  You fight Mr. Y on stage 11, then Ms. Y appears like she's going to be the last boss and it's too easy and predictable...only for her to run away.  Then this happens:

Yeah, they've been open about all that for a while now. It's dope to me that each character has very different play styles. Guessing Axel counts as a balanced heavy now.

Tell me a bit about Adam, I knew about the half step but dude kind of reminds me of Terry Bogard with his specials, would you say there's a similarity or is that me just seeing a power geyser like move and assuming?

Adam is more like Ken from Street Fighter than Terry from FF/KOF!

One of the enemies (the police commissioner and then a normal variant of him) has what looks like a Terry burn knuckle type move, but it's really closer to a move Rugal has in KOF.

Just once.  First play through on normal was about two hours total, I'd say.  You can definitely complete it faster than that when you git gud.

No branching paths.  Nothing hidden I found apart from some little spaces you can go into and find cash (for points) or health items in.

It looks better than it did before and certainly better in motion.  There's some nice lighting and other little effects that make it stand out.  It's 1080P and an absolutely solid 60 FPS, too.
