I mean, recognizing and pushing back against white supremacy is super tangential to one dude being a racist... that aside however, wouldn't trying to find an understand of the root of this one dude's racism and then working to resolve his racist misconceptions and feelings be the ideal way for a white ally to help? If his struggles with racism stem from a mental illness or autism or if they stem from family or even his own dark heart, we still have to understand the problem before we can solve it.

The trend is clear, and this "metacommentary is okay only if it's praising us" policy is extremely toxic. There's a real concerted effort to keep underlying problems here as hidden as possible. A cancer loves nothing more than to be hidden away with make-up. This is becoming more and more apparent with each passing day.

"PM a mod" is the refrain. But when there's a cultural problem, the community as a whole needs to discuss it. Individual PMs that may or may not be answered just don't cut it.

The rule should not be to never discuss our community's problems. Discussing our community's problems is the only way to fix them. Burying them just makes it worse.

The rule should instead be to ensure sincerity and civility when discussing our problems. Not shutting down all community criticism in the most counter-productive ways.

I appreciate the introspection and attempt to be better. More bans is not the answer, though.

The reason people were so toxic and dismissive to Etika is because he'd been "cancelled." Being cancelled has come to mean that you deserve everything you get. The justification of treating other humans like garbage because you believe they're garbage for their mistakes is exacerbated by ostracizing people in the wrong instead of including and talking with them, like with Professor Beef.

The way you handled Professor Beef's screw-up was correct the first time: He realized he made a mistake, and apologized. Course corrected. Now you've punished him just to satiate people who want heads to roll. The reason this whole community is toxic is because people are always looking for heads to roll, and the staff usually chooses to oblige.

I'm not saying you should never ban, but the answer to this toxicity is not to appease people looking for more bans, but to encourage civility and course correction and forgiveness. The emphasis you guys put on punishing wrongdoers is exactly how we end up with a community that treats Wrongdoer Etika the way they did. Your "solution" to the community is the exact opposite of what it should be, and is counterproductive.
