https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Tumbles_the_Stairdragon

Quote
In February 18, 2007, at 01:00 AM, the furry in question was ejected from a LOLFurries room party at FWA for harassing other members and being heavily inebriated:

[He] kept pestering people to smoke pot with him, and any time we went to take a walk he would just follow us trying to get us to take us with him until finally we found a clever way to ditch him and Jen told him not to come back to our party. --Anjel Kitty

After being ejected from numerous parties, the person in question moved to the outdoor area behind the convention space, mumbling and apparently angry, with nobody approaching him.

At first, he reportedly tried to slit his throat with the broken lens from a pair of sunglasses. He threw himself down the cement stairs adjacent to the hotel's smoking area, getting stuck in the railings halfway down.

if I remember right this was not even a big stairwell and actually about 5 steps

Quote
Word spread rapidly online, and within days the character/meme Tumbles the Stairdragon was born.

A dragon was chosen to depict him, despite the furry's husky fursona, partly due to the stereotype that dragons are more prone to mental instability, and partly because he had been described as a scalie.

As with all depression threads on resetera, my question remains. How can 1 video game forum produce /attract so many broken people?
2-stage filter, at least. Video games are great for outcasts, the lonely, and the depressed, and so are online forums.

If we had a good survey of genre preferences we could drill this down even further. (I suspect RPGs attract certain types.)

Note: This staff message has been posted in both the PoliEra and Socialism OTs, but they will be enforced across the site.

Fighting between communities has been getting worse lately, and that ends now. It's ruined too many threads at this point and it's been a constant breach of the terms of service. It's unfair to everyone else who uses this site that a small minority has been turning large swaths of EtcetEra toxic. Many users have complained about this to us and we believe they are right to do so.

In that past we've relied on ordinary bans with gradual escalation, in the hopes that this would be enough to ensure that everyone can coexist. It hasn’t been enough. Users have instead resorted to trolling in subtler ways, hoping that the staff won't notice or mind. To deter this, we will now be issuing much longer bans and rapidly escalate them as hard as necessary.

There have been a handful of recurring offenders on both sides in this – you know who you are. The following goes for everyone but especially for you: The pejoratives, nicknames, turns of phrase and other creative aggressions will no longer be tolerated. Attempts to provoke one another, to gatekeep, to deliberately keep the fighting going, will no longer be tolerated. Going back to your respective OTs to whine and complain about each other will no longer be tolerated.

It all stops now. Do not complain that you were not warned.

The manga itself isn't even THAT problematic compared to a lot of manga, it's just a slice of life romantic comedy between college students, but it's incredibly inappropriate to use as a Red Cross promotion. It's like using an American college sex comedy movie like Zoolander to promote the Red Cross. Tone deaf.

Founded on it, no? Aren't fursonas chosen based on the ascribed qualities of an animal or mythical creature?

But do your fucking research.

Talk to people who have been doing the research on this for years. I'd recommend contacting @dogpatchpress on twitter, they're a good collator of furry subculture history, and can send you to the right people to talk to for your research, and may even be able to provide content themselves for your talk.

The whole Leftube community is being dragged into this, where people are asking people like Peter Coffin, Kat Blaque and others to chime in. Some of them do, some of them refuse to. There's also a sense, from my point of view at least, that the whole reaction to the situation is being unfairly portrayed as a lynch mob of people simply calling for everyone to chastise and cut ties with Natalie, while the legitimate criticisms are not addressed properly enough. You might have seen this already, but someone is calling the situation "GamerGate 2.0", as if it's anything close to that.*

* I will say this though: if you told me there might be some alt-right plants trying to sow discord and have Leftube tear itself apart behind false pretenses of asking for accountability, I wouldn't be surprised. It's just disappointing that that seems to overshadow the legitimate calls for accountability.

Lefttube sounds like a hellhole, I'll just keep watching LPs of shitty NES games.

I don't think it will go down exactly the same way or to the same extremes but it's starting to feel like a lot of leftube are on the verge of going down the centrist to right wing rabbit hole.

Now I don't think they are all suddenly gonna go full alt right or anything but I'm seeing a lot of similarities to how they are reacting to criticism that you do with centrists who start siding with right wing people because they feel victimised by being called out for their own shitty behaviour or opinions.

I'm pretty sure that nobody here's attempted to dox anybody or even want to see Natalie excommunicated. In regards to friendship it's more of a case that we should be able to be critical of who peoples are friends with and how they handle their friendships (because holy shit they've all had a long time to talk to Natalie about this in private) and not be told we're trying to destroy people's friendships.

Calling this debacle "Gamergate 2.0" is honestly such an insult to the victims of Gamergate, this baffles me how anyone would ever try to make this comparison.
I can imagine that yes, the attention and abundance of tweets can feel overwhelming to deal with, and I'm sure some of those tweets might not be as civil and polite as they should be, but I'm fairly sure neither members of BreadTube are going through a tenth of what Quinn had to endure during GG, and it's infuriating anyone would imply as such and draw such a comparison.
https://www.resetera.com/threads/contrapoints-opulence.146668/post-25654207

Gamergate comparisons should only be allowed in serious instances, like when describing people who liked the Joker

As a demisexual who is tired of a subset of furries thinking I want to fuck them irl just cuz I showed them porn of my character or something, I say go ahead cuz fuck everything

 :what :donot

I don't actually want an answer to this, because I don't actually want to understand furries any better, but how the fuck is showing someone porn involving an avatar you claim represents you not at the very least mixed fucking signals for wanting to fuck someone IRL?
The entire point of porn is sexual gratification.
The entire point of going "Oh, yeah, thats me in that porn" is to create a link between you as a person and sexual gratification.

Like, wtf?

truscum isn't a fetish?

Truscum is a derogatory label for people who think that you need a medical basis/gender dysphoria for calling yourself trans.

Let's not have a discussion where the sole purpose is to shame others.

Interesting new forum policy, I look forward to it being ignored next twitter mob

"the video people i like sure aren't reacting well to being told they are pieces of shit? make me think they might be trump supporters!" :dizzy

also a "u" in behaviour, aka euro or (worse) canadian. disgusting.

Left YouTube are scumbags for encouraging the behavior they are now uncomfortable with.

I always thought that most of Contrapoint's content while they can be informative were always more about how Nathalie liked dressing up and doing vids more than any deeper message.

:trumps

I'll take the net benefit of Contrapoints videos not being mentioned every 5 posts as the zenith of YouTube videos.

Site's gonna be a ghost town in 2020  :neogaf

Still got all of November and December to hit that mark in 2019!  :rejoice

Any discussion on Resetera that isn’t 100% agreement quickly devolves in accusations of trolling. Clearly these people have a great capacity for empathy.

I believe Cream was the one where you’re comfortable being called either he/she. That’s why he didn’t care when you called him her or vice versa. I don’t remember the exact word.
