You should also wrap it in a blanket to make sure it's as comfy as possible (Image removed from quote.)
Meh. I can either have a wife and a PS5 in a unit, or a wife and no PS5. :-\

(Image removed from quote.)

yeah - the thing is that didn't happen at all for me. I just went from playing a game to complete shut down. Didn't even get any artifacts or stuttering either. Also the fans weren't loud and in overdrive. It just went from playing the game to.. off and needing a drive rebuild.

Might’ve read Sony were tuning the fan curve? For a Sony console it’s near silent. After all the jet engine complaints on the PS4, they’re running the fans at low RPM?

Seems all good now. Weird that the only game it was happening in was No Mans Sky. I platinumed Ghostwire and have played a handful of other PS5 native titles on it with no weirdness at all. All I can think is that the ambient temps have increased over the last couple of weeks to the point where the PS5 is affected.

Yup. I was surprised that the fans aren't running louder give the amount of heat building up. Even when it was close to failing, the machine was still silent. What a good boy.

My PS5 started making a 1 second grinding noise when I boot it from rest mode each time.

It's the kind of noise of a disc drive starting to spin...except I don't have a disc in the drive.
It's the kind of noise that a traditional HDD makes when starting to spin to access...except the PS5 uses an SSD.

I guess it could be the fans starting up. Probably best guess and they've got a bit of dust or something. Hope it doesn't lead to a PS5 death.

New GT7 update adds post-ending single player mode.

3 new menu books with new events including GR1 series. Also another 3 cars added and New Orleans photoscapes added to photo mode. Otherwise pretty minor updates. But nice to see they're expanding the single player campaign post-ending. If they keep at it, will load the game up a few times a year and get DLC sized SP expansions to play.

GoW Ragnorak is supposed to be announced for a September release any day now.

You'd think it'd be in this State of Play but otoh it seems like it's focused on PSVR2 and Guerilla's Horizon VR game, so idk. Ragnorak just got rated for release in Korea and a bunch of tie-in merch leaked with September release dates.

Need a trailer to make me care about Ragnorak since I really didn't like the last one (zzz open-world game which will hold up even worse after Elden Ring) but I like my Sony Dad Walking Sim AAA games, so I need some spectacle to reel me back in.

Out of the loop here but is this direct meant to be the E3 conference? In terms of scale of announcements.

Is it too soon for Ghost of Tsushima 2?

RE4 getting a full remake just makes me feel old. I want to try the VR version but it’s exclusive to the Facebook headset.

Cyberpunk Cat Stealth looks cool.

So that wasn’t Dead Space…

Thought this was gonna be a new Final Fight.

In the span of a minute I worked myself up into believing Capcom was reviving Final Fight to being crushed. Somehow imagined an open world beat em up based on two seconds of footage. At least I’ll always have SOR4.

Could be making this up but that series is in rights limbo. They got delisted on GOG and other digital stores. Shame. Xbox game rocked.

It's because Atari and Starbreeze both went bankrupt. I imagine Vin's company is the only one in position to unify the rights by buying them (for peanuts) off the corpse of Atari but he doesn't seem to care enough. If Koch Media had gotten the rights when it put Starbreeze back together they would have put it back on the stores.

Very solid showcase of games.

I’m skeptical of many of the games, but most of them look like games I want to play.

But I will say I wanted to come out swinging for 16 and instead I’m kind of disappointed.

I'm WAY more interested in FFVIIR Part 2 than XVI.  :doge

I mean, I guess it looks ok... But like 15, it was a wait and play later on sale feel.

Capcom did steal the show... The nail in the coffin would/will be when they finally reveal Dragon's Dogma 2.

It didn't register to me till yesterday that this is technically E3 season.  :doge

I'd need to a slice of some actual gameplay and exploration etc, but the trailer made it seem like medieval DMC lite, which is kinda ehh to me :yeshrug

You want the sense of an epic adventure from a big RPG trailer imo and that one didn't give me any, just some flashy looking battles.

I still love FF and will no doubt play 16. A more serious FF with good writing and less teen angst is always something I’ve wanted. I do hope there is a bit more “light” in this game. The lack of party members is a bit disappointing as party management is my favorite part of a jrpg. So I’m a bit cautious with that. And as much as I like Japanese character action games, it’s not really what I’m looking for in a FF game. So I guess my problem is a expected to be knocked out and instead saw a cool looking game worthy of FF’s pedigree, but also with some reservations. But I really want a single player FF to fire on all cylinders.

Sony putting out Horizon a week before Elden Ring and a couple of weeks before their own Gran Turismo 7 was so fucking stupid, they should have held it off for May. Surely that has cos them a more than decent chunk of full price sales.

Bought some USB PC fans and taped them around my TV cabinet. The existing air flow slots weren’t cutting it. It’d get toasty unless the door was fully open. Even with that inconvenience, it’d trap a ton of air. Fans exhausting hot air is working well for now.

Also, first time I moved the PS5 since launch. Immediately the stand falls off. Brilliant design needing it to sit flat.

i went back to it yesterday, realised I'd nearly finished the game but had barely done a single sidequest in my rush to finish it before elden ring came out. this game is so tight. yeah it's just a slightly fresher interpretation of a template laid out by ubisoft, but it's damn fun to play still. spend the last ten hours just doing sidequests refamiliarizing myself and respec'ing aloy. love the quality of life features in this game,  infinite respecs, custom game difficulty. production design is next level. glad i finally picked it up again

I liked it immediately but it was hard and enigmatic, still pushed through phrike and then died promptly in biome 2. played a little more but not much. watched the fextralife tips vid and did a more methodical run after a break and ended up pushing through the next few biomes. this game is something else. really cool stuff

They really utilized the PS5 features well... Which makes me wonder, when Returnal comes to PC, they'll be missing out on the DS haptic gameplay..  I so need to get back to this once I finally finish Elden Ring.  Besides the brutal rogue element, the game's solid AF.

Why wouldn't haptic feedback be available if you use a DS5 controller?

Also will take higher resolution options and better/higher framerates over that any day.

Good question... does the DS5 function the same way when you just plug and play it to PC versions of the game?  I just assumed it wouldn't, but who knows.  Besides Astrobot, not sure what other games really use the haptics that truly play as part of the gameplay, as Returnal does.

Well, that any day will have to wait a year or two, sure.  And even then, one will have to pay full price for a year or two old game. :umad Something which Nintender folk should be use to though.  :betty  :fbm

I wound up “beating” it the other day. Insofar as it’s a roguelike and I only managed to finish a full run. The game keeps throwing you for a loop and lends to that alien feeling. Somebody who puts several dozens of hours across dozens of runs in could acclimate. For me, it never lost that vibe of being in a hostile unknown world. Any time I felt comfortable, it’d knock me off balance. Boy is it unforgiving in the late game.
