Not gonna lie, having one of my biggest right-wing, pro-Trump, QAnon supporting co-workers come into the break room one day incoherently name-dropping random terms from 1984, the work of a lifelong avowed socialist, in order to try and denigrate "liberal cancel culture" was pretty funny...

Honestly, this just makes me feel I really need to do a reread. I didn't understand fascism before as I do now. This will be one of the rare times that a reread will truly be a new experience for me.

You know.. I've been reading 1984 for the first time. And the whole experience is so god damn painful because I fully really how insane the republican party is and how much they completely don't understand this book and ignorantly follow all the "evil" parts of it and shamelessly pretend they are following the good parts of it and fighting tyranny.

To be fair it's not like they'd allow the only thing anyone wants to see, someone going back and quoting all the true believers from the original thread. They already banned one person for simply implying this. Nobody now is still going to defend the guy except the people paid to do so. Regarding the case itself, the defense is actually still going with the claim that this was a real attack. That the brothers ripped off Smollett and then planned the attack themselves for reasons unclear. Smollett himself basically still insists it was white MAGA people who had spent weeks hunting him down. He's expected to get probation and community service.
